Yup, prices at Amazon UK is VAT included. Foreign address will get it cheaper.

I've ordered from Amazon UK a few times already, all using standard delivery (Royal Mail), all of them arrived in 7 to 8 days including weekend. thumbup.gif

The only studio I know to really utilize the region coding is Fox. Other studios only use it on few titles only, mostly new ones that still showing in cinemas in other regions.

You guys know what? Cloverfield is the movie that made me decide for a new subwoofer. The LFE is the deepest I've ever heard, my current sub really was working very hard. The Dolby TrueHD track simply won over DTS-HD MA from any of my collection.

Wah ....... say until like I print money pulak. I got a lot of movies to buy but slowly lah, later when I buy today at USD19.95, next month Amazon sell at USD14.95, then I pengsan. Always happen to me but luckily I managed to get a few from their buy 2 free 1 offers. Win some and loose some. It's a gamble when buying from Amazon.

If the decrease is within 30 days, you can always ask for refund bro. So don't worry, just have your credit card pasted to the lower left of your monitor all the time. brows.gif

Blu-ray to Overtake DVD by 2012

QUOTE
Blu-ray Takes Bigger Piece of the Pie

By Danny King

The water the home-entertainment industry is treading is getting Blu-er.

That’s the news that came out of an Entertainment Merchants Association report this week about U.S. consumer spending on DVDs.

Studios celebrating Sony’s Blu-ray victory in the high-definition DVD format war in February were validated by an EMA estimate that spending on Blu-ray discs will overtake standard-disc sales by 2012. EMA said Blu-ray disc revenue will surge to $9.5 billion by then, up from $260 million last year.

In addition to the end of the format war, Blu-ray disc sales will benefit as U.S. consumers acquire Blu-ray disc drives at a faster rate than they did standard DVD players almost a decade ago. Blu-rays will reach homes largely through Sony PlayStation 3 videogame consoles, according to some estimates.

Blu-ray will be a bright spot in what appears to be a flattening market for DVDs. Overall home entertainment spending, which reached about $24 billion last year, will inch forward to $25.6 billion in 2012, or at a compounded growth rate of about 1.3% a year. By comparison, the U.S. population has been projected to grow at about 1% a year between 2000 and 2010, while inflation alone may account for 3% to 4% in overall annual spending increases.

Still, with studios ramping up Blu-ray releases to keep up with increasing demand for HDTV sets and introducing features like BD-Live interactivity and 3-D capabilities, greater consumer awareness of Blu-ray and falling prices for its players are likely to feed demand that will help Blu-ray disc sales cross what many analysts expect to be the $1 billion threshold this year.

“New generations of hardware and software, and alternative delivery channels, will ensure that home video and video games remain phenomenally popular entertainment options for the American public for years to come,” Bo Andersen, EMA’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Technically it is enough for the average viewer but personally I prefer 1080p/24fps anytime for judder free movies.
*
Just like the difference between screen resolutions, size and viewing distance still contributes to the 24fps benefit. I think you won't notice the judder effect if you sit within the recommended viewing distance.

Htkaki, the HD65 supports 1080/24p ar? That's nice. biggrin.gif

Thanks guys. Decided to keep Jumper for now, until I watched it (long queue, maybe in August), and then consider if I wanna sell or not. biggrin.gif

And yes, digital copy, that's sweet. I'll maybe copy to my iPhone first if I decided to sell it later. thumbup.gif

Bro Arj, thanks for the poison. A new subwoofer is definitely coming by end of July. whistling.gif

Finally watched Hairspray just now. I never liked musical before, but this one is so fun! Even Aiman was dancing and jumping on the couch! rclxms.gif

AQ and PQ is also top notch. Thought I would sell it, but now it's a keeper. nod.gif

My other musical BD is Sweeney Todd, but I can't imagine it would be a fun one, with all the blood. It would be an interesting watch. biggrin.gif

Long weekend for me, got 5 bds to finish  biggrin.gif. Very happy with MiB transfer, looks very good. I Am Legend, no need to say already, is reference quality stuff and i find the story not that bad lar. Underworld is great! Has plenty of dark scene to test the blacks of your pj and lcd (plasma no need lar - the champions of blacks  tongue.gif ). I always have a thing for western movies, so i grab 3:20 to Yuma as well during the previous sale, no regrets at all - great transfer and a good story. My last bd - Flags of Out Father was a bit of an anti-climax as the picture quality was good but there's no lossless sound. That's it for my bd marathon weekend.  biggrin.gif

You'll be late for the train! It's at 3:10 la bro! laugh.gif tongue.gif

Bitrate does help to put some details, but just in the form of sharpness. One pixel of a sand pebble in 1080p BD, will be lost when converted to DVD.

When you put it into DVD format, it will be dowconverted to 480p no matter what. I've done it before, video is sharper and more vibrant colours, but nowhere near BD's 1080p resolution.

So compared to normal DVDs, BD sourced DVDs should have small improvements, but very minor. biggrin.gif

Hey, I'm not taking any sides here. Just to add what I know. wink.gif

But standard anamorphic DVDs resolution is 854x480p (1.78:1 widescreen), not 720x480p, so no stretching here. . While non anamorphic is 640x480 (1.33:1 fullscreen). That's why non-anamorphic DVDs sucks, especially when they try to put a 2.35:1 ratio movie into the 1.33:1 frame.

We were talking about DVDs in a BD thread, of course we'll compare to 1080p bro. tongue.gif

But if I have a 720p MKV files, I would rather remux them and put into my PS3 than downconverting it to 480p DVD.

Don't worry lah, nobody's stopping anyone to enjoy DVDs, I've got 500 of them in my collection, and still proud of them. biggrin.gif

BTW, what is BBA? hmm.gif

Maybe you're right about that progressive/NTSC/PAL thingy, never bothered about that. But there are no stretching to the actual movie ratios. Movies are shot widescreen, 2.39:1, 2.35:1, 1.85:1.

Actually I don't understand what you meant about that stretching thing, but anamorphic widescreen is 16x9 ratio (1.78:1) so no strectching is needed, only some black bars depending on the movie's actual ratio.

Ah, let's just forget about, don't bother to explain, I'm not that interested about it anyway. All I know is BD > DVD. tongue.gif

Little something I bookmarked, but never really had time to read:

Now let's talk BD!!!

Director Francis Ford Coppola's Epic Trilogy Debuts on DVD and Blu-ray in All Newly-Remastered Versions

The Godfather: THE COPPOLA RESTORATION
Cinematic Classics Return to their Original Pristine Glory with All-New Special Features
Must-Own Collections Arrive September 23, 2008

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- More than three decades after they won the Academy Award® for Best Picture, director Francis Ford Coppola's classic films The Godfather and The Godfather, Part II will once again be enjoyed by audiences as they originally were meant to be seen, thanks to a meticulous restoration by Paramount Pictures, overseen by Coppola himself. On September 23, 2008, both fully restored films will debut on DVD and Blu-ray, along with a newly remastered version of The Godfather Part III, to be included as part of The Godfather, The Coppola Restoration Collection. All three films will be available individually or in a five-DVD collection or four-disc Blu-ray collection, which are loaded with a host of all-new special features.

The Godfather and The Godfather, Part II underwent extensive frame-by-frame examination and restoration utilizing state-of-the-art digital technology in this historic preservation effort, which required more than a year to complete. Robert A. Harris of the Film Preserve supervised the restoration under the direction of Coppola and cinematographer, Gordon Willis. Harris' restoration credits include Lawrence of Arabia, Spartacus, Vertigo and Rear Window among others.

The new special features created by Kim Aubry, founder of Zoetrope Aubry Productions, explores the complexities of the restoration process and provides new insights and perspectives about how the film almost didn't come to pass as we know it. "The Masterpiece That Almost Wasn't" relates the unlikely events, intrigue, allegiances and luck that put together the unknown director with the "unwanted" cast and contains interviews with most of the living players and many of the films' admirers. Other featurettes include " ... when the shooting stopped," and "Godfather World," which take a look at The Godfather's influence on popular culture today. Each film includes a commentary by Coppola.
