QUOTE(alsree786 @ Feb 6 2009, 10:21 PM)
well, generally speaking, for me, in the uk, it's

1) Oxbridge
2) the others which are considered "top" unis like imperial, Ucl, Kings, edinburgh
3) the 2nd tier unis
4) the 3rd tier unis
if u are considering twinning under a 2+1... 1) and 2) are out. based on thes 2008, no twinning uni (2+1) is in the top 100 rankings so it is based on what they consider as low ranking unis. I know in singapore we consider low ranking unis based on comparisons with ntu and nus. but anyway, since u are talking about uk employees (-ers?), guardian would be a better reference. I think for the bvc, there is some sort of preference for the unis own students, im not sure about this, u probably shud check with someone who is more knowledgeable on it....
*
Thanks.Yea...I know that those twinning uni are quite low in ranking...HELP's too. sad.gif

Anyway, thanks for helping out. Really appreciate it. nod.gif

QUOTE(fr33dom @ Feb 6 2009, 11:56 PM)
Well as per my conversation with the councilor, she said the application was submitted on Sept 08 and awaiting confirmation.
Perhaps it would take ages, or perhaps it can be known this year itself, nobody knows.

I am with Penang ATC right now. I have heard many stories about people failing the CLP exams, some up to 7 times.   shocking.gif
I personally have a friend who have failed 3 times, and he is a bright student. I feel it is bias as those from gov unis are exempted from it.

I have found that apart from gov unis, NUS is exempted from CLP as well. Can anyone confirm this?

Why exampt local graduates from CLP?
NUS exempted from CLP 1
NUS exempted from CLP 2

*
So, taking A level now or LLB 1st year? I heard if you are going for MMU, you need to start over from foundation(albeit you passed A level)

And yes, NUS is exempted from CLP.But the percentage of getting into NUS is like... 1%?Unless your results are superbly good cos it's too competitive.

I get that from BAC pathway chart. After the UOL external straight to CLP, never point to BVC also. After UK transfer degree then it point to BVC.
*
It's recognized by Bar, so you can take BVC after external.

Anyway, alsree, did you ever heard of the 12 dinner for BVC? unsure.gif

i am doing a 2+1, currently in my year2.

i wana ask whether choosing an U in my final year is it decisive for employment in future?

in other words is reputation of an U that important for an employer to look at??
*
It's much depends on where you plan to work.Like alsree786 said it is not decisive if you are planning to work in Malaysia.Yet, it's pretty decisive if you are planning to work oversea.A lot of the employers opt for those graduating from reputable uni.Beside that, they will look at your results.

Dont worry , 2subjects is fine . But, you have to make sure you really concentrate on it .
Of course , you need to make sure you get a good lecturer as well .
Or else , concentrating may not works .
*
Fine? Hmm, more risky in my opinion.Even if you are really concentrate with those 2 subjects, sometimes, accident might happen. For example, for the essay part, you put in wrong points and case to back and screwed up the whole thing. You are then, left with one subject...Fine?Risky I would say.

QUOTE(alsree786 @ Apr 12 2009, 09:52 AM)
yeah sure, a levels would be a good idea. it's really up to you to weigh your options, if you dun want to practice, a pre u prog will indeed do u no harm except cost u a few ks and time...

...and yes reading law is fun. exams....not so much! there are quite a number of people i personally know who have done the llb as a secondary degree, it is a good programme to stir the mind and develop analytical skills. Your inquisitive persona will definitely appreciate such a course, but it is important that u head to the right college. But i do hope you like to read, because u do need to read quite a bit if u intend to do well. Occasionally u'll encounter a very dry topic, i do think there are quite a number of topics among the subjects that are so. Some ppl however find the transition hard if they're first qualification is very technical. But with due diligence, it shouldn't be a problem...
*
Adding to the above, you should also expect some hard time for your hand during exam. You will have to write a lot of things in a limited time. So, your hand will usually get numb after exam.

As for the topics, I think most of them are interesting.I hardly find any topic that I want to skip it.

hi.
i know my question might be overlapping but there're too many pages and i'm lazy to read all to get the exact answer i need.

i wanted to do law course in a local university maybe UM or UKM after stpm . so what subjects should i take for stpm? art stream or science stream? is history compulsory?

thanks.
*
This is your own future. If you are lazy to find it out yourself, nobody gonna help you.Is your own future.Clicking a few pages, using the search function won't kill you, right?

You can see why others totally ignored your question.

As for the " is history compulsory?" question, I have no idea. You have to ask TS.

hi, sorry to burden you by asking you some questions, i didnt study anything about law during my pre-u studies, forgive me by being ignorant. I would like to ask you a few questions, firstly, what do you all mean by 'attachment wif law firm during 1st year/2nd year? how to do that? is it the attachment you mean is actually kinda internship? secondly, i'm currently doin uk degree programme transfer, 2+1, which University is good, in your opinions? i'd some research on the web and oso trhu forums, i found out that king's college, cardiff, uwe, warwick are among the tops. i know i've better chance to enter cardiff or uwe via this programme as they are partner U of brickfields, but is it possible for me to apply for Uni like cambridge/oxford provided that i do very well in my 1st n 2nd year in malaysia? apart of that, my uncle in london told me that there are a lot of summer schools teaching about law in uk, if i enroll to one summer school and do about 5 months of internship in law firms in malaysia b4 i transfer to UK, will i hv a higher chance to go into those good Uni easier?

sorry if i've caused u any trouble. i'll really appreaciate if you can help me, thanks.

anyway, how is the working life of a lawyer in general?

like during chambering, and then as a legal assistant for first few years up until u're made a partner?

9 - 6pm weekdays or what?
*
Time varies with person. Some work til wee hours, some seldom.

As of being offered partnership, it's not guaranteed. It's depends on the firm you are working in, your performance at work place and how much you contributed to the firm.Usually it takes years but it's worth....$_$

i am taking a-level now and i am taking pure science subject (bio, che, math)
is that a promblem for me if i want to take law in U???
i am planning to go UK but now i am so panic bec i IL cant get band 7
is that got other way that can help me if i am going to UK
study law is that got a lot of memorise thing bec i dont like that but i love history
is that got any suggestion for the U icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

hope that u can reply me as fast as possible

thank nod.gif
*
I'm not too sure about the entry requirement but if I'm not mistaken, any 2 credits from any subjects from A level allows you to take on UoL LLB.

Anyway, back to the memorizing and history part. Many times, I come across people relating History and law together.I don't know why but that perception, in my opinion, is really wrong.I have seen people who did well in history for SPM and screw himself up in Law.Maybe, they are related in some areas but to link it heavily with law is just not too right.

As for the memorizing part, I think it's a must, no? I mean you have to remember the cases to back you up or else, how you gonna write the essay?

Are you sure? If I'm not mistaken, you still have to take CLP.

Anyone can clarify this?
