Its ok one. For the first few rounds of charge and discharge, the performance will be slightly mediocre. It takes a few rounds before the optimal capacity is achieved.

Ordered 2 cases from PDAir, arrival time : 1 week, no tax.. phew..

First one is the book type case, it's a simple no frills design, protects the screen from damage, but not the edges from scruffing. The way it opens to the left, means right handers can still use the Diamond with one hand.

Attached Image

nothing to report at the back, just a hole for the camera, and a hole to screw the belt clip in.

The other case is this..

Attached Image

The black aluminium one... yes yes.. aluminium cases have a tendency to cut signal strength... I just had a sudden urge to get a metal case lar.. tongue.gif

On the front is a clear plastic window so you can see the screen when it's in the case but the screen is still protected by the plastic. But of course... if I want to keep THAT screen nice and scratch free as well I'd need a screen protector for the screen protector.... hmmm.. tongue.gif

Nice big cutout on the earpiece means the light sensor doesn't get impaired when it's in the case.

And then here's an interesting design choice..

Attached Image

Got ventalation holes!!! hahahahahahah.

If you are using Windows Vista, you'll need Mobile Device Center 6.1 installed. Once you have established connection with your Touch Diamond, you can install through that program. Alternatively, if it already in .CAB format. You can just throw that file into the Touch Diamond's internal storage. Then install from that PDA itself.

If you are using Windows XP, you'll need ActiveSync. The rest is basically the same.

Well, we can't say Touch Diamond is the best. After all we're the owners now, so what do you expect us to say? Hehehehe! Seriously, Touch Diamond is a good option. We do have Samsung Omnia, HTC Touch Pro and Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 on the way. Don't forget about them too!

Yeah, just do your own research and you'll gain experience even if it's not a good buy for you. For me, it's definitely a great improvement from my previous HP iPaq h6365 nicknamed "The Brick" !! biggrin.gif

Hey guys,

To those who have hardspl-ed your Diamond and flash custom ROMs, could please share with me which ROM is preferred? There seems to be a lot of variations in xda-developers. I need one ROM that is as default/stock as possible with the latest revision of the stock applications. The reason I am venturing into custom ROMs are due to the speed and efficiency that is currently offered compared to the 1.37 stock ROM that is currently sluggish. Thanks.

i've tried all the custom roms. but in the end went back to stock rom. because the customs are made from the european version, which is an older rom compared to our current stock rom.

I'm still trying to see if the aluminium case affects signal strength. But it seems like Maxis is still having problems and their signal strength is unstable when I check with other phones as well. After all, typically, GSM always has full bar signal strength.

Added on July 14, 2008, 11:07 amOK... after running some tests.. yup.. it's official.

The aluminium case zaps approx ONE BAR off the signal strength indicator!

Ok... this will teach me to think that metal is cool! tongue.gif

OK thanks for telling. I was given the impression that those custom ROMs are speedy. Looks like I'll have to wait for HTC's update if there is any. Baronic, do keep us inform since you're close to the distributors. So there won't be any ROM update from HTC's website from now on? We have to go straight to SIS for updateS?

Its a RF propagation problem and lack of base stations. WCDMA or our 3/3.5G networks operates at 2100MHz which is higher than our GSM - 1800MHz and 900MHz bands. A higher carrier frequency would means propagation range will be lower and requires more base stations for the same coverage. Also, these higher frequency bands do not work well indoors because of the many obstacles it had to endure.

But anyway, I don't think our 3/3.5G network coverage is intensive enough. Its mostly concentrated in the city center and other house estates. A lot of times, even I get a HSPDA signal in my house the signal is pretty weak to be usable. We do have 3/3.5G networks running, but it is more like a 'me too' competition among our telcos. Its like telling the world that we do have high speed networks, thats about it. Its not usable enough to be practical. Coverage is important too, you know.
