Chinese Star is on the CD that came with your Touch Diamond. Where's the CD? You know that shiny plastic that forms the lid of the box? It's underneath a piece of card on the other side.

First thing for those with poor battery life during normal use.

are you using auto mode and thus allowing ur phone to move between GSM and 3G band, or did you lock it to one band? If you use auto mode in an area with poor 3G reception any phone will use up more power trying to constantly attach to the 3G network.

Also for those with data connection issues, unless you know you have a good 3G connection, auto mode might not work too well for you as the phone constantly switches between GSM and 3G networks, so you should see better performance if you choose to use a specific network, instead of using auto.

This should probably applies to all Bluetooth HID keyboards as well.

But anyway, I just bought a Logitech DiNovo Mini BT keyboard
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke.../3848&cl=hk,en

I noticed that it was reporting as a typical Bluetooth HID device and thus I did the obivous thing and scanned for new devices with my Diamond. Lo And Behold it was detected! With a nice keyboard icon beside it too!

So I choose to connect to the device and then it asked me for a pass key, so I punched in the typical 0000, and the beach ball appeared.. and I waited... and waited... and waited..
"Error establishing device!" Damn!

I tried again cause I felt that it took too long to tell me that there was an error for it to be NOT WORKING tongue.gif And again I was greeted with an error.

So I scoured the net and I came across a Logitech KB article for their other Bluetooth keyboards, seems like to connect to it on Windows you'd have to TYPE the passcode on the KEYBOARD.

So again.. I got to the connection screen and then I keyed in 0000 in the diamond, pressed NEXT. Beachball came up, then I quickly typed 0000, ENTER on the keyboard.
"DEVICE CONNECTED!"

Woo hoo!!!

Downside is that since the keyboard doesn't have function keys, I can't access the soft menus on the screen.

Another more inconvient downside is that when the BT keyboard is connected. ALL FRONT BUTTONS on the Diamond are deactivated! Must be how the driver works. And since the DiNovo Mini doesn't have an off switch the only way to regain use of the front panel is to toggle the BT connection.

Inconvinient? YES...
Useful? ABSOLUTELY!!

Yes, scrolling through lists with the thing is inaccurate with your fingers, thank the iPhone for that feature. tongue.gif

To try and use the finger scrolling properly remember that your stroke to scroll the list needs to be in one quickmotion
STAB THE SCREEN WITH YOUR FINGER and SLIDE WITHOUT RELEASING CONTACT from the screen.
To make the scrolling stop, the system gives you one chance to tap on something and it will not activate it. So... again without hesitation when you want the scrolling to stop, TAP THE SCREEN IN A SWIFT MOTION, any hesistation and you might cause it to register a 2nd tap which will activate whatever you tap on and not just stop the scrolling.

Ordered 2 cases from PDAir, arrival time : 1 week, no tax.. phew..

First one is the book type case, it's a simple no frills design, protects the screen from damage, but not the edges from scruffing. The way it opens to the left, means right handers can still use the Diamond with one hand.

Attached Image

nothing to report at the back, just a hole for the camera, and a hole to screw the belt clip in.

The other case is this..

Attached Image

The black aluminium one... yes yes.. aluminium cases have a tendency to cut signal strength... I just had a sudden urge to get a metal case lar.. tongue.gif

On the front is a clear plastic window so you can see the screen when it's in the case but the screen is still protected by the plastic. But of course... if I want to keep THAT screen nice and scratch free as well I'd need a screen protector for the screen protector.... hmmm.. tongue.gif

Nice big cutout on the earpiece means the light sensor doesn't get impaired when it's in the case.

And then here's an interesting design choice..

Attached Image

Got ventalation holes!!! hahahahahahah.

I'm still trying to see if the aluminium case affects signal strength. But it seems like Maxis is still having problems and their signal strength is unstable when I check with other phones as well. After all, typically, GSM always has full bar signal strength.

Added on July 14, 2008, 11:07 amOK... after running some tests.. yup.. it's official.

The aluminium case zaps approx ONE BAR off the signal strength indicator!

Ok... this will teach me to think that metal is cool! tongue.gif

But anyway, I don't think our 3/3.5G network coverage is intensive enough. Its mostly concentrated in the city center and other house estates. A lot of times, even I get a HSPDA signal in my house the signal is pretty weak to be usable. We do have 3/3.5G networks running, but it is more like a 'me too' competition among our telcos. Its like telling the world that we do have high speed networks, thats about it. Its not usable enough to be practical. Coverage is important too, you know.
*
Oh .. poor 3G coverage? THAT much I'm sure of lar, but.. when out of case.. 2 bar 3G.. when in case.. 1 bar 3G.. repeated for a few times so.... Aluminium case... looks cool, feels cool... not so cool to the radio. ahahahah tongue.gif

Hey guys, i kind of pissed by TOuchflo3D  !! it is really not responsive..... i see a lot tweak software offered by xda-developer. ANy hints which is the best one?
*
You mean the thread here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398265

I just performed no. 1 & no. 3(though that's not touchflo related), but I halved the values cause hey.. more numbers there means less free resources, works well enough for me.

And always remember you can slide through the panels by dragging the current selected tab and sliding, much much faster than swishing the tabs one by one.

Ok, the new Opera 9.5 Beta has been released, it IS a newer build than the one on our Diamonds (at least on mine lar) So I installed it and found out that the old one kept getting launched.

Long story short, to launched the beta version of Opera you'll need to create a shortcut to \program files\opera95\oprea9.exe

By default, the shortcut created by the installation points to the operal.exe file which.. launches the opera9.exe located in the system folder first (ie. the built in one.) Attempting to replace the file in the system folder (Backing up the original files first) resulted in Opera constantly starting up unrequested.

The new beta since it's not made for the Diamond doesn't have the autorotation feature (HOORAY!!!) And when you drag and move it doesn't slide to a stop. there are other subtle differences as well, but if you want to try the latest beta on your Diamod, here's how!

I was wondering why it happens but all my notification sounds were cleared. now after I read this.
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/7508.html

It would seem like the Opera beta is the culprit... I'm uninstalling it for now.

Just installed the official 1.93 ROM from HTC on FRiday night.

Looks good overall, touchflo transition animations cut short, feels much more responsive.

But I just realised something, can't take videos in L size anymore, something's wrong with the files it creates. the usual mode which I use CIF, is still ok though.

i note that we can switch to different functions in touchflo by chosing an icon at the bottom tray, say, the home icon, press it without lifting your touch and then slide across. iam not sure this is in the menu but i just discover it.
i am on 1.93 rom..

actually that dragging method has always been there, and it's definetly the better more accurate way of switching between tabs than just slidding your finger across the tabs IMHO.

regarding the video rite, wat mean by the L, M, S and the CIF..?
juz bought the diamond.. and it was my 1st PDA mobile..

teach teach me ya~ thank you to u GUYs & Girlz 1st..
*
That's the recording video size, after entering into video cam mode. touch the screen once, then touch the gear icon for options, then the top left one is the quality. Anyway... forget every other option, CIF is the BEST quality video recording on the Diamond, S or M for MMS, and L... well I have no idea why L is there?

Alarm tones must be in WAV format, damn PPC alarm program.. no change since the first version. Smartphone one much better, can use MIDI, WMA, MP3, WAV...

Anyway the program is not that I cannot take videos in L size, is that after the HTC Album program plays an L video the whole thing becames unstable and wants to die. But like I mentioned, big deal!!! Since the only usable video mode is CIF.

i wanna do a test on the error you reported. could u say exactly how does it "want to die?"
*
just record 2 L videos, then try and view them from the touchflo interface. first one will play properly, 2nd one errors out with a windows media error. after that all videos don't play anymore, all errors out with a windows media dialog box.

I encountered a new problem yesterday. The create new sms interface did not appear, I can only see a full white interface with the black top (SMS/MMS, OK) and bottom (Send, Input Settings, Menu) bar. Soft resetting the phone few times did not help. Finally I managed to fix it my uninstalling CE-Star. Very wierd. I also can't seem to update my weather anymore. I'm currently running TLRv3 on Olinex HardSPL 1.40 . Anyone facing the same problem?
*
Heh, i had this problemm myself. it was because the CE Star was NOT registered. Go into the CE Star programs folder in Start->Programs, there's a register link in there and use it to register the program.

That's because of the threaded SMS system, you'll have to disable via the registry edit if you don't want to use threaded sms.

source from xda-developers

In Registry Editor: Create a folder named "OEM" in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings"

In the new "OEM" folder, make a new DWORD key called "SMSInboxThreadingDisabled" and give it a value of "1"

Yes, mine too. The magnet is just a very small piece attached somewhere in the casing to the left of the battery. Its not pulling the stylus strongly like it used to.
*
Actually, the magnet is in the STYLUS. not in the PDA, so be careful where you put that thing!

hmmm.. i think we're both right. There's a magnet inside the silo, and there's a magnet inside the stylus, that's why the stylus can stick to other metal objects like whiteboards, firereels, etc. etc.

But inside the silo there's also another magnet to give it the PULL that we feel when we insert the stylus in. Hmm... looks like it can get dirty, i have some grime stuck on the inner magnet. Maybe the person who was saying the magnet getting weaker also dirty?
