Hahaha... cute names. Well, Pet Family doesn't feed cheap food... I forgot what kinda food they feed, but sometimes I got see some veggie in side too. But the bedding was stinky yesterday in the big tank. Anyway, I think they were in the middle of changing the bedding when we went there.

Mealworms... they don't feed mealies to hamsters wor... maybe he just like the smell so when he tasted them, lagi he like hahaha. Is good, pump up protein, veggies... sure become fat hamster later.

So far, any nuts should be fine. Cashew nuts are the best if you could feed them that. Just never feed hamsters almond nuts coz sometimes a few almonds can be bitter almonds, which can be harmful to small animals. So stick with peanuts, macadamia, cashews, walnuts....

You can feed extra protein like steamed or cooked chicken or turkey meat without any additional oil or seasoning.

Oh... then you can feed nuts but take it easy on it since very high in fat. You can give cooked egg. Some hamsters won't eat boiled egg, so you can scramble it without oil and feed it to your hamsters. This is to give variety from mealworms lah.

Yups, you can alternate protein. Just don't give the whole egg lah. A small piece that can fit a teaspoon is fine.

Yups, you can feed crickets as well but crickets don't really last long like mealworms.... unless you buy them weekly or something. Just remember to gutload the crickets. Some hamsters don't like crickets.

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 5 2008, 05:31 PM)
Hahaha... Nophie, means tomorrow you sure will bring home a hammie jor lor. already so poisoned from yesterday, how to not bring home one? Hehe...

My Ferro sleep like dead log. manage to climb to vegetable bowl but fall asleep in it.  sweat.gif  wub.gif  Funny, cute and swt at the same time.  blush.gif At least Roche will look up when I call her name.

Neshie, your Ocha got chew the bone a not? Thinking to get one each for Ferro and Roche.  sweat.gif The wooden carrot and corn too cham dy. Thinking of changing it.

smile.gif And pet shack really feels like home. If only it's nearer to my house and not so much jam I'd go there daily or at least weekly. Hehe...
*
Hahaha.... sleep like dead log rite? I can also pick up the hamsters while they sleep and they have no idea I already picked them up. When they open their eyes, they got this blur look like "what happened?" look.

I just bought a green bell pepper, gonna try on my hamsters later.

Pet Shack has a homely feel.... I don't even mind staying there LOL.

QUOTE(JonYeap @ Jun 5 2008, 05:33 PM)
hmm... i buy french loaf for my hammy and hamster can? haha
*
Yes, you can but make sure is more than 1 day old. It needs to be stale so it is better for hamsters to eat.

Version..... goodness, it is not some kinda game or software, it's species.

I never see my pet keeping as competition. Is more like I like to see different hamster colours. Maybe something like collection but at the same time love and care for each individual hamster. My Syrians now each got their own box/tank. My RC are in small groups and pairs, my robos with Reanne hahaha... dunno when will my WF robo breed. Then my WW a few are solitary while 2 are in 1 tank.

Pet Family got many Syrians.... choosing one with a bear face needs time and also a good pair of eyes. Hamster hunting with people is good coz you get to pick your hamster with other people and also you can ask people's opinion about the one you picked. Quite fun. I did enjoy my day with Jamien and Neshie. Now I am in search for more Satin heheheh.

is tis the mealworm for my jojo?? it is so dam big sweat.gif  sweat.gif  my jojo manage to eat  5 ekor yesterday sweat.gif  sweat.gif
[attachmentid=491330]
*
Superworm.... the exoskeleton is harder, mealworms are much better than superworms. PLEASE don't go and feed SOOOOO MANYYYYY lah. 5 Superworms is TOO MUCH!

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 7 2008, 11:12 AM)
I think that's what we call "superworm". Mealworm looks exactly the same but is smaller.  blink.gif 5 ekor? equivalent to 10 mealies.

BTW guys, izzit good to feed a lot of mealies? Cuz if my hammies take a lot of mealies will take less vege. More vege is better right?
*
Limit mealworms as they are very high in protein but also in fat too. So give about 3 to 4 a day. We even don't feed more than 10 to a joey glider and their protein requirement is much higher than hamsters. 1 superworm is equivalent to about 3 or 4 mealworms. So if 5 superworms, then the hamster can get obese and health problems faster. Maybe even digestion problem since the superworm exoskeleton is harder.

QUOTE(neshie @ Jun 7 2008, 12:11 PM)
i thought superworms not suitable for hamsters?  hmm.gif
btw, can any syrian owners advice me on how to tame my Ocha? sad.gif
He doesn't seem to want to respond to me.
I put my hand in the tank he run away from it. Even if i put food on my hand also he dun wan.  sweat.gif
How do i tame him? Which method should i follow?
thanks  laugh.gif
*
Yah, superworm is not suitable.

Ah, takes time lah. Won't tame so fast wan. Now mine, all would come to smell my hand already but they won't come to sit on my palm lah. Slowly, put your Ocha's favourite food in your hand. There are a few ways to tame. If you be patient and feed Ocha with your hands and always attract Ocha with food in your hand, he will trust you more. Another way is holding the hamster daily but if you just grab your hamster everyday, it would be tame as in won't bite you but it would always avoid your hand to be grabbed from the cage. So I would go for the hand feeding one. Just be patient and do everyday, it will take many days before he learns to trust coz at Pet Shop, normally they already got bad experience with hands liao.

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 7 2008, 12:52 PM)
sweat.gif Almost same wif Ferro. He's not responsive like Roche. maybe cuz they come from the same place? But we only have the hammie for a few days. Just need to be more patient. What I do is, I put a lot of fresh food on  my hand. He'll have to walk on it to get the food. After a while he will automatic know that your hand = got food = must go to. Then only you start to train him. Slowly lift your hand off the cage. Always let him go back to the cage when he wants so that he know you hand is safe. After a while he will automatic come to your hand everytime. (hopefully lar. At least Roche is like that).
*
Yups. That's the best way.

QUOTE(anderyna @ Jun 7 2008, 08:55 PM)
huhu T.T . I thought about 25 - 30 bucks for 1.
*
25 to 30 ringgit is normally 1.5ft tank.

2ft tank is roughly more or less around Rm40. Pet Shops near my place sell at RM50.

Plastic is expensive because of the quality. Never be stingy when it comes to housing your pets comfortably. If lack of funds, then get something 2nd hand or get storage boxes.

tis is the close pic of worm i buy. how many ekor for my hammie everyday?? thanks notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

1 superworm a day.

The powder is suitable. As long is for animals then ok. Powder sold for us are bad coz contains talcum.

QUOTE(IcedNyior @ Jun 7 2008, 09:39 PM)
Wana show my tank. Im trying to potty train my hamster. I put the soiled bedding and the poo on the bathing sand into the top right glass tray.

Its a 2ft tank btw. Do you think it'll work?

I read somewhr that u can just gut the mealies with sayur. Need to have bedding also? sorry confused
*
Good tank. Similar with my set up but I use flower pot for hide house....

Yes, you need to feed your mealies with sayur. Feed sawi, kangkung, apple, carrot. Make sure you feed apple slices with skin coz that contains calcium. You don't really need bedding unless you wanna breed.

ooo. hahaha. no brand de tend to leak easily. Even the living world brand also quite lousy. I checked living world website, they do have a better water bottle, but i don't see it in stores. It's better to get those bottles which have the spring loaded ball to prevent leakage.
Lol, cuddle themselves like how?  ohmy.gif
*
There are only a few brands that doesn't leak. Critter Canteen never leaks if you place correctly coz it has a spring in it. I use that. Also, you know that Genting Kelang petshop? It has these bottles.... I forgot the brand, later let you know. It has double metal balls inside, which makes it never leak too. I use that as well.

QUOTE(Elayne @ Jun 8 2008, 01:06 PM)
The water tank he is using it now got the metal ball inside but without any spring attached lor sweat.gif
Hmm..not into cuddling, just he like to sleep at the corner side. Have to change his hay again, wet again sad.gif  I wonder if i put a small mini cup inside his hay to replace the water tank, will it be better?Scared later he spill it out unsure.gif  He is now sleeping quitely, just now woke up chew some food with eyes closed then sleep back again. Lolx laugh.gif

Read above, get Critter Canteen, available at Pets Wonderland, Pet Shack and I think Pet Safari also got.

QUOTE(neshie @ Jun 8 2008, 02:24 PM)
yeah, last time i put sandbath for my previous syrian he pee in it.  sweat.gif

My Syrians potty trained. As long you put a bowl of whatever sand, Syrians will pee and poo in it. The only hamsters that would roll in the sand are WW, RC and Robos.

QUOTE(Jamien @ Jun 8 2008, 02:30 PM)
sweat.gif now i only put toilet sand for it.

cry.gif My mum found my worm dy. Die. Izzit ok to put the worm outside?
*
Yes, you can put outside but beware, it would get eaten by squirrels, birds and even rats.

Get a silent wheel that is about 7 inches. Those china brands.... could be small. Measure it before you buy.

Yeap, already did so. He was so curious that he stop playing with this fav rolling wheels and focusing on the toilet roll instead biggrin.gif
He went in & out through the toilet roll already non-stop tongue.gif
He likes to eat oh,i wonder later he will grow to become chubby hammie or not. Hehe brows.gif
I wonder why he started to bite the cage metal? hmm.gif
*
Biting cage bars is normal. That is why it is better NOT to keep any hamster in cages coz the cage metal produce rust. Rust with metal taste, when it reacts to saliva, is salty and causes the chewing and biting addiction. The metal would then slowly poison your hamster.

QUOTE(neshie @ Jun 8 2008, 06:00 PM)
cuteee.  wub.gif
LOL.. yeah, taking care of baby. my dad say i spend too much time on the  hammies.  sweat.gif
OMG STEP ON UR GUPPYYY? walao..

cheap china wheels have less quality, in the end u have to buy again and again and again.  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

My parents also say the same thing. What to do? hahahah... have pets is like that lah if we wanna give them the best.

QUOTE(liette` @ Jun 8 2008, 06:39 PM)
Hey, I'm wondering if it's okay to feed a Winter White crickets?
*
Crickets are better than mealworms coz the protein may be slightly lower than mealworms, but it has less fat.

Roborovskis are happiest when in pairs because they are colony hamsters. If you have a male, you can get another male. Fights only occur if you introduce 2 adult hamsters. Young ones rarely fight if they are introduced properly.

PIne shavings is bad. Since you got it free, just throw it out or dig a hole and pour it in so that you don't cause harm to the environment. Read the 1st page for more info.
