huh really ar??? RCs almost chew my hands off ... so ur saying RCs wont bite each other but oni bite my hand?! wat crime did i commit against tis hamsters?!! T.T ....but RC very noisy species la.....at nite i can still hear *chit chit chit* ....syrian dun haf at all....mine super quiet...hehehe cheers
*
You really don't understand hamsters do you? RCs are social animals but they can only accept each other if they were together since young or have bred from the same clan/colony. They bite us coz we are not hamsters. Won't you want to defend yourself if some giant comes and grab you? As already explained, RCs are social hamsters but are aggressive towards their territory. If they bite you, means you got untame RCs coz tame ones rarely bite. Ask Jayniel and see.... About the noise... that's how they communicate.

Syrians are solitary so what in the world do they want to communicate? Further more they are not vocal like WW. WW can make sounds coz they are one of the most vocal hamsters.

If I want community hammies I'd pick robos.  sweat.gif Less likely to chew off my fingers.

Yah.... but Robos run so fast. Cute but super fast.

Of course different species would kill difference species. And what to calm down? I just said you don't understand at all. A syrian would kill a RC as size and territorial instinct is higher. But if the syrian is mellow, then the RC would kill the syrian....

I'm typing facts but to you is scolding? If cannot take it then read more on your knowledge to understand better lah. No one is flaming or scolding. Is just you who thinks it that way.

My postings can sometimes be stern because when it comes to facts, I'm no hahaha and heheeh and alalala kinda typing.

Also, it is a known fact that Syrians make better 1st time hamsters coz they are calmer. Dwarfs are always skittish, with RC and Robos, you need to purchase from a proper hamster breeder only can you experience tame and non-aggressive hamsters. So don't simply say they kill and bite fingers off. There are reasons and facts behind all this and newbies need to be educated with the right facts than just from your own experience.

Sometime small litters could be the male being inexperience.... Coz not all males know how to mate properly. That's why best is let 2 syrians have a few mating sessions on the day that the female is on heat and allows the male to mount.

I got experience Syrians mating but no litter. Why? My male must be sterile or impotent.

btw, what is the rare colour of syrian? the albino (white fur n red eyes) consider rare or no?
*
Syrians.... rare ones are Yellow, Yellow Black, Silver Grey, Grey, Dove, Blacks, Satin fur gene, Rex fur gene, Tri Colour, Tortie colour.... alot. I have one of the rare ones..... Satin Cinnamon! Today 3 people came over to view my Satin hahahah....

If wanna see pics, sorry lah, pics make satin appear ugly. Must see in real life only can see the real fur texture.

QUOTE(kmao @ Jun 18 2008, 03:49 PM)
hey guys, robo can let them run free out of the cage? mine are super active, i'm afraid can't get them back after they out...
*
No. Robos are sprinters and runners.... you have a chance of not catching them back. Get a hamster play pen from Pet Shack. Is cheaper than Pet Safari.

But i have bought a new Ivory on the next day and i'll upload a new picture of her smile.gif

Hamsters from Petsmore are sometimes infected with a virus. They die faster coz most of them are inbred. This is from many people and also my experience with hamsters from Petsmore. Let WW live alone. And Habitrail Mini is not good for WW, only for Robos.

Hahah.... I should have taken my sony alpha for you just now.... but then his fur so untidy, makes him look ugly LOL. I'll groom him 1st before take pic.

Then once I successfully breed Satin, will let you guys know.

About kitchen scale.... those normal ones are not fully accurate. I had one but gave to my aunt because it was not accurate. I invested in a digital one coz it is accurate, you can monitor the weight better and is easier to read. But only get if you got money lah.

Don't you guys think this Syrian pattern is cute? I would love to have dominant spots. It is called Nom Spot Dom Spot.... er.... I'm still not sure what it is called coz it's confusing to read the genetic argument.... but then it is attractive. We sure don't have this here.

Grey is a different colour version of agouti.... but rare here.... you see in the market mostly are goldens, cinnamon, creams, sables, umbrous, whites.... minks if people bred them properly....

Wahhh... imagine a Satin Mink! Heheheh.... lagi nice.

Anyway, there was a satin RC at Pets Wonderland Mid Valley, I was debating with myself whether to buy or not but it was so old and had a bad eye infection so i didn't....

Satin is really prettier in real life. Cameras cannot take the shine of the fur well. Not sure why.

I'm thinking that the fur reflects  light which is why it shines when there's light. And the camera somehow can't reflect the light image on it.

You made the right decision. it's not guaranteed if it'll get better, the infection. A risky investment.

You're filling my head with satin lar Hun. I'm still seeing your satin in my head. I want it~~

Seeing the satin really led me to think the reason why syrians are also called golden hamster.
*
Hahaah.. satin in your head. Wait till I groom him, maybe look nicer heheheh.

They call syrians the golden hamster coz that is the original wild colour. Years ago Malaysia had no other syrian colour but goldens.... so always call goldens.... now coz so many colour, change name to syrians loh.... petshops are funny sometimes. Golden is also known as agoutis.

hamsters do not bleed like humans..... and only Syrian hamster have obvious signs when on heat. What your friend saw could be the hamster passing blood, which is normally linked to urinary tract infection.

When Syrian hamsters are on heat, their private part will produce a sticky whitish gel. It is stinky.... that is the 1st sign. 2nd is the female will be quite moody.... and she would be interested in males by standing still and lifting the butt in the air.

The posture with the butt and tail up when a female is on heat. When you notice the smell and sticky liquid on the private part, you test your female's readiness by touching her back and tail. If she freeze and lift the butt up, means ready to mate.

Umbrous has a very dark brown dirty coat. Goldens have slight black ticking. The one in the pic is a golden banded.

It is normal for some hamsters to stand up and fall. But it should not go on and on and on. If it falls more than 5 times at one go, it has a genetic disorder already.

It's a dye, the people are using the dye that is safe for dogs.... well, I don't like the idea of them using such gimmicks to pull customers. So not right. The poor hamsters must have suffered a bit of shock during the process.

Those coloured chicks are not dyed like how we dye dogs or our hair.... they inject them with a colour dye.

Also, chicks grow into chickens.... how can change to feathers? You can say their downy fluff change into feathers. And normally they become white chickens.

No, they didn't inject. What I meant is the dyed normally like how we dye our hair loh. But they use vegetable base dyes that are meant for animals. Coz PF do grooming, so the grooming section bound to have those coloured dye. Mostly is the sprayed on kind.... but depends on what they use. I saw before sprayed on dye, it would wash off.... if the ones the hamsters have are permanent, means is the usual dye, means must bath and wet the hamster wan. That's why I said the hamsters must have experienced shock from the process.

I malas to quote, but just for you guys to understand.... Syrian hamsters are normally Red Eye or Black Eye. The Red Eye can be in different shades like garnet and pink. Sometimes we just call garnet as Ruby eye..... I learnt that there is another type which is a True Ruby Eye and this is very very rare coz normally the males are sterile when they reach 10 weeks so breeding is not possible to continue this line.... for males lah.

Red eyes may look evil to us coz we are humans, but it is just their eye colour. Any animal with red eyes is very sensitive to light but it is not half blind. I wonder what article was that since it is so weird....

Anyway..... here are some pics for you guys to see.

And here is my Cinnamon, having a lovely time when I groom him. He stands still whenever my toothbrush is on him and never freak out when it brushes his fur. I think he enjoys it coz he would stand still for each brush.

If never keep in fridge, it will spoil in a few hours lah. Pureed fresh food will never keep. In 4 hours can smell sour and bad, full of bacteria.
