Anyone here mind brief mind briefing me through the details on getting an Internship over at Intel?

I'm an Electrical & Electronics Engineering Student, Year 3, and required to do Intership for 3 months x 2.

I would like to ask about the work life over in Intel Penang / Kulim?
Are accommodation/food easy to find over these two places? As I'm a big eater.
Do they have actual good canteens?

Should I need to have my own means of transport there? Is it possible to cycle to work? [No Driving Licenses]

What job scope would I should be aiming on as a Electronic Engineering? And will there be Department Rotation happening?

May I know if the person called as system architect then what is grade for the person ? Great 8 or 9? Also Team lead it would be ?

9 or 10. It depends on how big your system/subsystem is.
Your team lead means project in charged manager? If yes then it will be same 9/10. Again, it depends on how big the project cover.

accommodation/food.
Yes easy to find for penang. Not sure for Kulim. There got more than 1 canteens in intel.

Transport
Own transport needed. Frankly, penang public transport is not good. I dont recommend cycling to work since it is quite dangerous.

Actually Intel has too many departments/business unit. What you heard might not be applicable to your department. Only one of my friends hired as GT has department rotation (should call it as team rotation since it is still under same department), the rest of them no.

Then I need to learn to drive and park in 1 month time

Well I'm just looking forward to join their Engineering /R&D Department, but I'm too blur where to join.

Yeah I'm hoping to join Penang outlet.
What is a GT?

GT means Graduate Trainee. Intel will offer GT position for fresh graduate. If you lucky will convert to permanent position.

I see, does anyone know the minimum Intern Time for Intel typically?
My university only offers 3 months :/
Then 3 months again in the next short semester, Can't directly two interns at once

I've got a couple of friends working in Intel, Penang and Kulim. It seems like Intel is almost always hiring. I personally got 2 offers from them also
Wonder if they are constantly expanding or turnover is happening. But it seems like retrenchment is not as severe as it used to be back then. Semicon industry is growing!

It's a norm in the industry to have attrition and hiring. When certain projects are killed or divisions are defunct, layoffs will happen and when new business units are formed, new talents are needed. That's how a company survives.

Does Intel accept Mathematics graduate for Software Engineer GT? I've been applying several jobs but I've yet to receive any updates

I heard RM4,000/month for Software Engineer.

I have an offer to work at Intel Kulim. I am from another country and will be relocating to Kulim. We have some questions to help us decide if we will relocate or not.

[1] How much is the average house rental for 3 person (me, wife and 5y/o daughter)?

[2] is it better to live at Kulim or Penang area?

[3] What is your daily transportation mode to work? Does Intel provide shuttle services?

[4] Can somebody provide an estimated monthly budget/expense for a family of 3 person?

1k RM to live like a king. Am sure you can find something lower within Kulim.

Penang as there's nothing in Kulim.

PG and Kulim campus has shuttle between but the hours might suck. I think they are around 7 am and 7pm each. Not too sure if there is additional in between.

Depends really. If you just stay in Kulim and don't go far, 1k to 1.5K should be sufficient. I spend about 700- 1k for 2 people on PG island for food...or maybe less, pending if I feel like going for more. This is excluding housing and bills. Bills would prolly set you back 500 bucks for telco, Satellite, broadband and electric.

Anyway, where are you hired from and at what grade?

The offer is at Job Grade 6, ill be coming from Philippines.

If ever we will stay at Kulim area, what are the available local transportation mode (ie,bus) going in and out of the office? do i need to use the taxi everyday? this might be too expensive. Does Intel cover the transportation cost?
