Word of mouth(from those who have seen the 16 min preview) is the online trailer doesn't do the film justice.

You actually need to watch in a IMAX 3D cinema to fully enjoy it.
Now there's only one IMAX screen in Malaysia which is Berjaya Time Square right?

IMHO it is just another CGI movie with 3D features yawn.gif

Not really bad but kinda boring... need to watch the whole movie before can make any judgment.

Lol the IMAX at BTS chap lap already... It's now just a giant screen showing normal movies with no 3D effects.

My opinion from the preview screening... This movie has every single framed rendered for 3D. It's not like your usual movie with 3D here and there (such as Ice Age 3) but every single frame here has 3D effects. Eg. the jungle scene - They purposely make these leaves falling in front of the screen every now and then.

Story-wise seems corny and predictable (boy becomes 'undercover' to blend in with alien culture, falls in love with alien girl, when war happens boy sides with alien, boy or alien girl probably dies in the end?), but the CGI is awesome. It's almost like the entire thing is CGI once they get on the alien planet. It also makes those aliens altho blue skinned and skinny looks believable and not those type of awkward CGI. It makes me believe that the upcoming Warcraft movie will be believable as well. biggrin.gif

I kinda agree on certain reviewers where they say James Cameron did what George Lucas did to the Star Wars prequel. It's basically a CGI fest. But now with 3D!

George Lucas star wars prequels are nothing more than just CGI fest... that i kenot agree more. ep3 spend 2hr with sum senseless CGI and then suddenly in the last 20min or so, the whole story unveil.

I hope Avatar is not just another CGI fest with no substance. I kinda think watching Avatar is more than just watching a movie or for the matter a 3D movie... I not gonna be "i've watched Avatar" but "I have experienced Avatar".

the trailer looks quite promising, but i dont get the hype... cameron promised photo realistic CGI but judging from what i'm seeing, it's no better than any generic ILM work from lucas/zemeckis.

It might look different if viewing it with a 3D projector in the cinema.

the same trailer was screen at the end of the 16min screening. However, the trailer in 3D doesn't really show the experience. I figure that's the reason why for Avatar a different kinda promotion. The 16min screening introduce the Cameron style of 3D which is different from the usual 3D.

Yeah, i watched the trailer both in normal and 3D. It's a different experience when watching it in 3D. All my senses blasted with depth of field and beautiful, sharp images. thumbup.gif

James Cameron has Midas touch, I still remember how many people predicted that Titanic would be colossal failure but turn out to be untrue. He directed some of my all time faves; Abyss, Aliens and 2 Terminator movies.

People can diss him as much as they want but I definitely go to IMAX cinema to watch this to immerse in full glory.

So true, the man has directed only a handful of films and each of them have been nothing but great and some of them revolutionary in terms of visual effects.
Terminator
Aliens
Abyss
T2
True Lies
Titanic and now AVATAR.

Out of all his movies, only Abyss underperformed at the BO, but nevertheless it paved the way for the use of CGI in films. (the liquid pseudopod scene was brilliant).
