If you foresee yourself visiting Singapore in the near future, by all means, buy an EZ link card.

EZ link card got rebate, furthermore when u change service(take bus then take mrt, take bus change another bus, take mrt change another line), there will be a transit rebate.

Do note that below a certain amount, despite having cash value in the card, u cannot use it. I think for trains is at least 3 dollars value, for bus is minimum 1.50 or 1 dollar. Also, EZ link card is expensive. I think the card costs 3 or 5 dollars at least, non refundable.

If you are not into boutique shopping nor mall shopping, pretty pointless to head to Orchard Road. Having lived there for years, as a very cheapskate consumer, I dont find shopping in Orchard Road to be rather affordable or value for money. There are much more alternatives elsewhere, depending on what are you looking for.

Well, I recommend ION Orchard, can check out Uniqlo, rather popular in Singapore. check out the lower grounds, there are a few interesting concept stores and ALOT of interesting food joints. Personally, I love the japanese chocolates from the ROYCE outlet. Cheaper than malaysia. There's an interesting headphones store there too.

For all things Japanese, head to Ngee Ann City. Asia's largest japanese book store, Kinokuniya, is located there.

H&M was rather well received when it first opened. Kingsley mall or something.

Plaza Singapura at the end of Orchard Road, family themed mall.

I would suggest Bugis Junction mall or Bugis Street for more budget shopping. Its near the Queens Street bus terminal. Stuffs there are quite comparable to the stuffs u can find at Sungei Wang in KL.

Shopping time varies for different people. Generally if dont have too much time, stick to ION orchard, i feel it has the best to offer. Thier foodcourt food is DAMN BLARDY EXPENSIVE but damn good. They invited Singapore's best hawkers to open shop here. icon_rolleyes.gif

singkapo hawker food not for human Malaysian to eat one. It's all either too bland or too sweet or too different from our tastes.

unfortunately, i beg to differ. there are uniquely malaysian food that just isnt my palate, yet there are simple common fares where certain hawkers in singapore does better. the same goes the other way, some so called uniquely singaporean food just isnt to my liking, whereas there are some food where malaysia clearly beats singapore. its all a matter of preference. people can argue who makes the best, but as a tip, singapore being so damn small, you can travel all around easily to savour the best they have to offer tongue.gif (peace)

Just a suggestion, if anyone were keen on laksa, there is an old place. Ask any taxi driver to take you to Sungei Road Laksa. For 2 dollars a bowl, you get a very flavorful, charcoal-cooked bowl of laksa, so much better than the hyped Katong Laksa. And also the latest craze in Singapore, I see it already spreading all the way up to KL, chilled bean curd or taufoofa. Very different from what we normally know. Real good stuffs, MUST TRY when going over.

Minority. The simple fact is that the vast majority of Malaysian hawker food (if you grew up on Malaysian food) trumps the vast majority of hawker food in SG. The only reason you would generally prefer SG hawker food is if you grew up in SG. If you grew up in Malaysia and still prefer SG hawker food then you are in the Minority.

Tables are turned once you go into "restaurant" territory though. Then, food in SG is generally bigger variety, better taste (and also higher priced) than in MY.

Hi everyone....I am going to Singapore by AirAsia (LCCT-Changi Terminal 1) soon.

I plan to buy some branded goods (clothes, belts, shoes etc) from Singapore for my own personal use and would like to ask a few questions regarding the GST claim.

1) How am I supposed to know which shops around Singapore, especially Orchard Road shopping malls would enable me to claim the GST?

2) Is claiming GST significant/cost effective? Say for example, would buying duty free goods at the airport save me more compared to buying them from retail shopping outlets and then claiming GST from there?

3) Is it troublesome to claim GST? I've been to SG many many times but this is the first time I plan to claim GST.

4) Would I face any problems with customs in Malaysia if I were to bring back this goods? As in, would I be taxed and what not?

Cheers! biggrin.gif
