Hehe I'm in a similar situation as you, only I not so bad I'll be arriving at 9 or 10pm this friday. Been to SG tons of times but first time driving in lols.

Uncle Google has advised that before entering singapore we need to register/buy an "AutoPass card" (I guess like what stimix said, it is a touch n go kind of card).

Then we got the option to rent an IU to pay "normal" ERP rates but since the IU rental is sgd5/day seems like makes more sense to just pay the flat ERP rate.

Anyway I'm also a bit worried that 10pm reach SG and then the offices all closed and can't purchase the autopass ... then gotta sleep in the car lols. uncle google doesn't help me here sad.gif

You drive into singapore, cross the singapore immigration, then immediately after that stop your car and go to buy the autopass card.

@J'Daniel I stayed in New Changi Hotel last-last week when I was there. SGD100/night for family room (4ppl), 5 mins walk from Eunos MRT. Big room, nice and decently clean too. I think their normal room is SGD70/night.

@cheezzz each Autopass card is linked to a vehicle number. At the immigration driving into singapore you need to swipe your autopass - that's how they know.

autopass is a card, kind of like a touch n go card.

singaporean cars have that smart tag thing, but malaysian cars no need cos we are charged flat rate for erp.

express pass means you skip the lines and go straight to the front of the queue. it's probably worth it on peak periods example when i went during MY/SG school holidays, some of the rides are 1.5hours queue time.

natgeo shop is in vivocity and it is freaking HUGE. I mean huge as in ... it's like 4 or 5 or even more normal size shoplot all combine into one.

@J'Daniel you driving in only one day trip? for me, best is to stay overnight at cheap hotel in SG with parking. Example my last trip I stayed in New Changi hotel, sgd100/night net for family room (2 queen beds), with free parking & 5mins walk from MRT. Otherwise, pay a lot of $$ for parking leh.

anyone drove to singapore before? if i wanna drive, it is the vehicle owner must be present? i would like to drive my bro's car there and oso need 2 present car card?

no need vehicle owner to be there.

your brother's car masuk SG before? then u need his autopass card. if first time, or if he lost his autopass, then immediately after crossing SG immigration you need to stop by the VEP place and buy new autopass.

In Singapore don't go for 'street food'. They won't taste as good as in Malaysia (less salt/sugar and no MSG)
Go for fine dining and the more upmarket gourmet cafes. Those are so much better than Malaysia.

Agreed. Spent 2 months in SG on work being taken to all the 'famous' street food and the standard was pretty horrible, lol. Cafes and restaurants are good, but also $$$$ ... I think I recall spending sgd50 on brunch in PS cafe on dempsey road once, lol.

should be fine eh~ if last 6 months cant go then y passport nid expiry date? Just my 2 cent...

dunno then dun simply give 2sen lar. any country you go in to will not typically allow you in if your validity < 6 months. scared you overstay and all that.

singapore is an exception. unofficially you may be allowed in with < 6 months validity but it is perfectly within their rights to deny you entry. go renew your passport lah nowadays takes like 2-3 hours only lar.

QUOTE(lynus5986 @ Aug 24 2011, 02:26 AM)
so it means i can still go on next week since my passport expired on 14 FEB 2012?
do u have da number for SG kastam?

QUOTE(stimix @ Aug 24 2011, 09:28 AM)
BTW, I hv tried crossing Thai Border 2 mths ago when my passport <6mth toi expiry. Can wor!!..So if Thailand not so strict on the Int common law on 6mth..Singapore should be OK kua? I also want to know haha

The official rules are clear, 6 month validity on passport, no such thing as Malaysian passport no need 6 months.

Sos: http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=95

However, if you work in SG or travel to SG often you will know that there are a lot of 'unofficial' rules especially to Malaysians. These unofficial rules will not be written anywhere but is there. Example my GF just extended her short term visit pass. All the official rules say must have SG citizen or SG PR to sponsor, but 'unofficial' rules is that Malaysians no need sponsor to extend visit pass.

How about if I need data connection for the phone for 3 days in Singapore?
Need to check email, general browsing and facebook biggrin.gif

Any recommendation?

I dunno about the other telco's, but starhub green prepaid you can buy data packages, if I remember correctly the price was quite reasonable.

Driving into Singapore and when getting the Autopass card we need to produce road tax disc and vehicle insurance cert.. wat's the insurance cert? or just produce the road tax disc is enough?

no need to produce anything, when you paying for your autopass the ppl there will go to see the road tax on your car windscreen, that's all.

Next week, will be driving to sg again and going to orchard, do i need to rent the ERP machine? and have cash card?

y u no read 1st page? info is there liao. no need ERP machine, just drive around like a boss. if u cross ERP gantry then for that day flat rate $5. just make sure your autopass card got enough $$ to cover your toll charges + all the ERP charges + VEP (if u got no more free days).
