The Wonder Woman movie that was going to be made is supposedly still going to be made even after Joss Whedon was unable to get the gears turning while it was under his wing.

Writers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland previously submitted a Wonder Woman spec script that was set during World War II to much buzz amongst the superhero property industry. Apparently the script got around, because Joel Silver is now talking these two up as the writers on the project.

More accurately, these are the guys keeping Wonder Woman alive.

Silver said the story no longer has anything to do with WWII, nor is it an origin story. He mentioned something "about Paradise Island and her background." Then basically shut up.

Silver was equally unhelpful when pressed about a director, saying that there wasn't one, but "Andy Wachowski had an idea on how to open the Wonder Woman film." Once again, clammed up after that one.

Good to see the good ole invisible jet might be making a comeback.

May we suggest 3d boobs?

Trailer is out!

Warner Home Video has supplied us with the trailer for the February 2009 release, Wonder Woman, coming to Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand.

On the mystical island of Themyscira, a proud and fierce warrior race of Amazons have raised a daughter of untold beauty, grace and strength – Princess Diana. When an Army fighter pilot, Steve Trevor, crash-lands on the island, the rebellious and headstrong Diana defies Amazonian law by accompanying Trevor back to civilization. Meanwhile, Ares (the god of War) has escaped his imprisonment at the hands of the Amazonians and has decided to exact his revenge - intending to start a world war that will not only last for centuries – but will wipe out every living being on the planet, starting with the Amazons! It is up to Princess Diana to save her people and the world – by using her gifts and becoming the ultimate Wonder Woman!

The film features the voices of Keri Russell as Wonder Woman, Nathan Fillion as Steve Trevor, Virginia Madsen as Hypolyta, Oliver Platt as Hades, David McCallum as Zeus, Alfred Molina as Ares, and Rosario Dawson as Artemis.

The only problem with a WonderWoman movie I think is her costume...no one, and I mean no respectable crime-fighter would be wearing her skimpy little thing...unless she was undercover as a dominatrix. The star-spangled leotard, the shiny WW breast-plate, the tiara! It'd have to be a bit campy...okay, alot campy to pull off her jumping around in broad-daylight with boobs a jiggling and ass a bubbling. She'd just have to show up and crime would stop I think, especially if the criminals were men... The costume is just too revealing I think...

Who to play WonderWoman...well, I still think Lucy Lawless would be good but she may be too old already... Other than that I can't think of anyone just yet...

The Wachowskis On ‘Wonder Woman’? We Investigate The Latest On Princess Diana’s Missing Movie

user posted image

Since there is no Justice (League) anymore in the movie world, let’s do a little check in with its members’ solo missions. Warner Bros. has summoned “Dark Knight” Director Christopher Nolan for a third box-office booty call (he has yet to holla back) and the company’s president voiced his intent to launch a “Dark Knight”-y Superman — even if that does mean potentially mixing nerd-lore metaphors.

But what’s up with Wonder Woman?

“We’re waiting for the script to come in,” says producer Leonard Goldberg (”Charlie’s Angels”), who’s working on the film alongside Joel Silver.

And Hera help them, indeed: Goldberg has been trying to get a “Wonder Woman” film to take flight since the ’70s when he and then-business partner Aaron Spelling tried to lasso in Raquel Welch for the lead.

More recently, writer-director Joss Whedon (”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), who never delivered a finished script, quit the project after Silver purchased a rival, WWII-centered script drafted by unknowns Matthew Jennison and Matt Strickland. (Whedon ultimately cited a difference in vision as the sticking point — but before he departed, he spoke with MTV about his vision for the project.)

“We’ve tried that route. We’ve had a writer-director work on it,” said Goldberg, who declined to comment specifically on the Whedon dustup. “But I’m old school. When we have a script to present to directors, we’ll sit down with them and see who has a take that blows us away.”

One rumored possibility: the Wachowski brothers (”The Matrix,” “Speed Racer”). “At one time, Joel [Silver] said they might have an idea. But they got diverted to another project [and] never followed through,” he said, before adding, “There may come a time when they will be focused on ‘Wonder Woman’ and may come up with whatever their take on it was. They’re certainly very talented guys. Their vision for movies — whether they’re successful or not — is always singular.”

For the time-being, Goldberg won’t go into details about the notes he and Silver gave to the Jennison/Strickland brain trust for “Wonder Woman’s” second draft — but he will discuss his broad expectations. “I can only speak for myself.… I would like it to be more current,” said Goldberg. “I hope that we don’t finally wind up doing the same story again: Steve Trevor flying, and his plane crashes onto the island [of Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s matriarchal homeland]. He’s supposed to be executed, and she saves his life. Perhaps we’ll do that in a very abbreviated fashion up front, and then come up with a story that no one has seen yet.”

And don’t expect this fetching heroine to be overtly sexed up, either: “Originally, a friend of mine sent me the initial copy of Ms. Magazine. On the cover was Wonder Woman, which got me to thinking about what an iconic figure she was for women,” he recalled. “So I don’t see any reason to do it. That separates her from Catwoman.”

Goldberg claims he and Silver haven’t started discussing the lucky lass who’ll play the super-powered Amazon royal, but notes, “I would go with a right unknown. People are not, in my opinion, going to come [to the theater] for the actress. They’re going to come for Wonder Woman.”

And just when can we come to see her? “I wanted it to be released in 1983,” he joked, without committing to a big-screen date in this century. So for the time being, fans of spangled leotard-tiara combos will just have to sit tight with the Wonder Woman animated movie, out February 2009.

Fox NOT Wonder Woman

user posted image

While the idea of Megan Fox starring as Wonder Woman is an intriguing idea worthy of debate, it's not happening. The rumors started last week when a site popped up online with the URL www.wonder-who.com. The conceit being that an image would slowly be revealed to a major announcement. That reveal and announcement came yesterday as said mysterious image was revealed to be an image of Megan Fox as Wonder Woman. While it's an admirably done Photoshop of Fox in costume - and I can certainly appreciate the skills of the artist and the desire to see Megan Fox dressed as Diana, Princess of the Amazons - it's a total fake. Relax yourself fanboys, the tattooed one will not be starring in WONDER WOMAN. A Warner Bros. rep (whose logo you see pasted to the bottom of this poster) confirmed the site and it's contents are "complete BS."

So Fox isn't Wonder Woman but would she have made a good Wonder Woman? I'm inclined to believe that no; she's too young, too skinny and too one-note as an actress to carry the film. Yet we still, as a fanboy nation have yet to come to a consensus as to who would make the best Wonder Woman on film. Please leave your suggestions below but beware, the first person to suggest Charisma Carpenter is getting smacked.

Beyonce wants to lasso the role of Wonder Woman

user posted imageuser posted image

Beyoncé is ready for an Amazon-sized challenge -- the pop superstar wants to be the first actress to wear Wonder Woman's famed red, white and blue bathing suit on the silver screen.

"I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It's time for that, right?"

Beyoncé says that she has met with representatives of DC Comics and Warner Bros. to express her interest in a major role in one of the many comic-book adaptations now in the pipeline following the massive success of "The Dark Knight," "Iron Man" and the "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" franchises. Beyoncé's acting to career to date has included a comedic role in "Austin Powers in Goldmember" and two notable music world roles, the first as a quasi-Diana Ross character in "Dreamgirls" and as the defiant and heroin-addicted Etta James in the upcoming "Cadillac Records."

"After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking  to myself, 'OK, I need to be a superhero,'" Beyoncé told me this week when I met her for an interview in a suite atop the Rivington Hotel in New York. "Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there's also an action element that I would enjoy."

user posted image

The recent success of sophisticated comic-book adaptations is the main reason for Beyoncé's interest, she said, but her focus on Wonder Woman was intensified earlier this year when she saw Lynda Carter's costume from the 1970s television show on display at the Costume Institute’s “Superhero” show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Beyoncé is in amazing shape right now (she had gained more than 20 pounds for the James role and came back from that leaner than before), but she said the Wonder Woman costume is an unforgiving one.

"I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume. The way that Lynda Carter wore it, she was sooo fine. She was amazing. I saw her costume at the Met. Her waist was unbelievable. It was pretty crazy, actually, her proportions. But I love Wonder Woman and it'd be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy."

The 27-year-old Houston native also recently finished work on the Scott Shill thriller "Obsessed" and, in her role as a woman whose husband is being stalked, she got her first experience with a staging a brawl for the camera.

user posted image

"I play a wife fighting for her family and I have this big, big fighting scene with Ali Larter, who is an incredible actress. It took us days just to film it. I had my boots on and, wow, I got into it. So I really want that now. Now I have to do an action film. It's like dancing and choreography. And the superhero movies now, they're not corny, not corny at all, so that's what I want to do. And I would love if it could be Wonder Woman."

It''s not clear if anyone will be able to deliver a Wonder Woman project anytime soon, however. The heroine, who debuted in 1941, is by far the most iconic superhero who has yet to reach theaters. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk and the Fantastic Four have all had multiple bites at the Hollywood apple and Captain America and Captain Marvel, both of whom were featured in 1940s serials, have adaptations now in the pipeline, as do Thor, Flash and Green Lantern.

"Catwoman" and "Elektra" both fizzled at the box office, which certainly didn't help the cause of female costumed characters as properties. In 2005, Warner Bros. announced with some fanfare that Joss Whedon of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fame would bring the pride of Paradise Island to the screen but even his considerable affinity for strong female characters didn't help him deliver a script that stirred studio chiefs. Still, earlier this year Warner president Jeff Robinov said that a solo Wonder Woman project remains one of the studio's future plans as it mines the DC library.

If not Wonder Woman, what other character, either Marvel or DC, could Beyoncé want to portray? With a laugh, she said: "I'm open to suggestions!"

Well, anyone?

Beyonce Dreams Of Wonder Woman

user posted image

That Wonder Woman movie keeps popping up occasionally, subject to fanboy ruminations of who should be handling the film (put it back in Joss Whedon’s hands!) and who should be wearing the costume (Megan Fox would be fine by me). A new actress would like fans to add her name to their wish list - musician Beyonce Knowles told the L.A. Times she’s very interested in playing the amazing amazon.

Through an interview, Beyonce said she’s actually met with representatives from both DC Comics and Warner Brothers to discuss an interest in putting on spandex of some sort. With lots of different comic book adaptations on the horizon, that sounds pretty reasonable, but Wonder Woman is setting awfully lofty aspirations, isn’t it? Especially for an actress who has barely cut her teeth in filmmaking, and very little of that being as demanding physically as a role like Wonder Woman would be.

My skepticism isn’t just due to the notion of the musician turned actress taking such a hefty role. Let’s be honest - female superheroes haven’t exactly done well in movies anyway. Catwoman? Elektra? Hell, X-Men 3 managed to take solid characters and ruin them rather effectively, so anyone stepping into Wonder Woman’s costume would be fighting an uphill battle.

Still, Beyonce sounds excited about the possibilities, even if they are only in her own head right now: ”I love Wonder Woman and it'd be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy."

McG for Wonder?

user posted image

The big news of the day is, of course, that JURASSIC PARK III and THE WOLFMAN director Joe Johnston has signed on to direct the patriotic adventures of Steve Rogers in FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA, but word also comes today, via the cool peeps at the IESB, that the long gestating WONDER WOMAN adaptation may have also found a director and it's none other than the ridiculously named McG. McG is currently knee deep in robots with the upcoming TERMINATOR SALVATION but apparently, the guy's been jonesing to take on a superhero project and, seeing as how SALVATION is garnering some surprisingly good early buzz, DC may just be inclined to let him have the golden lasso wielding Amazonian princess. Thoughts?

Extra Tidbit: If McG does sign on to direct, Megan Fox as Wonder Woman just became a very real possibility.

Nicolas Winding Refn Gives His Take on Wonder Woman

user posted image

While DC Entertainment gears up for their attempts at bringing some of the DC Comics heroes to the screen, some for the very first time, one of the characters that's been somewhat neglected so far is Wonder Woman. While there have been a number of attempts over the years with Joel Silver and Joss Whedon trying to make that movie work, the Amazon powerhouse has repeatedly been put on the backburner in favor of more movies starring Batman or Superman.

A few weeks back, Danish filmmaker Nicholas Winding Refn, who has build himself a cult fanbase with movies like "The Pusher Trilogy" and last year's Bronson, told the BBC that he may be interested in making a Wonder Woman movie. As is often the case, it wasn't exactly newsworthy at the time.

Regardless, he reiterated his earlier interest to Movieline, saying:

Wonder Woman, I really want to make. That, I’m hoping, will be my $200 million extravaganza — if I even get close to it. That’s why I say, “Well, let me go make Drive; me start the ball rolling within the system.”

With some urging, he discussed what he thought would be an interesting way into the character:

The real origin of Wonder Woman is: What if women were more powerful than men? What would the world be like? That's a subliminal theme.

I think that when Christopher Nolan did the Batman movies, I think he very cleverly went back to the source material and took themes that had maybe not been exercised. And he was able to make very good and successful films with them. So I think the audience is very much out there. It’s just how you do it. And I think that some of the films that have worked over the years have worked for different reasons than people sometimes think they do.

And where Wonder Woman on one hand is a great female character who can be included in many great fight scenes, she doesn’t have great villains against her.  OK,  so you create some. She doesn’t have a Joker or those classic Batman kinds of guys. But she does have her whole world that she comes from, which is fascinating. The whole idea of a woman who is basically more powerful than any man — and who will always be that, and comes from a society of women who are more powerful than men — is an interesting theme that I think can be very contemporary.

WTF? David E. Kelley Developing a Wonder Woman TV Show?

THR says the suits at Warner Bros. are currently attempting to get that very same David E. Kelley to develop a new TV version of Wonder Woman. Since the movie (including a version by Joss Whedon) has been in development hell seemingly forever, with no signs of ever breaking free, going the TV route may be your best shot at seeing a flesh-and-blood Wonder Woman fighting crime anytime soon.

Of course, a new “Wonder Woman” TV series will be a rebooted version that will, no doubt, offer up a more contemporary Amazon Princess. Since Wonder Woman herself has always been represented as a major feminist character (the, uh, classic “costume” notwithstanding, though her more “modern” look would work better in today’s world — they did “revamp” her for a reason, right?), bringing her into the modern world seems like a no-brainer.

Obviously it’s all about the presentation here. Present it correctly, and you have a hit. Do it badly, and you have a show that people will mock.

David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman TV Show is Probably Dead

user posted image

On second thought, maybe giving a comic book property to the same guy who only knows how to write about quirky lawyers doing quirky and eccentric things, the type of things that would get them kicked out of the profession if they tried it in real life, was not such a good idea. Either that, or as this Deadline article suggest, there were a lot of network politics at play. Regardless, your chance to see what a “Wonder Woman” TV show as created by the guy who did “Ally McBeal” and the gazillion other lawyer shows formerly and currently on TV would look like seems to be kaput.

QUOTE
The script was reportedly taken out to the broadcast networks on Wednesday night. Fox and ABC passed, while WBTV’s sister network the CW could not afford it. While the project was never considered a fit for Fox and was taken to the network mostly out of courtesy, the ABC pass was more politically motivated. With its empowered female lead, Wonder Woman seems well suited for the network, but word is a potential DC-Marvel clash got in the way.

Regardless of why, it doesn’t look like there are any takers for a “Wonder Woman” TV show by Kelley.

Don’t fret, though, fans of superheroes on TV. Marvel’s got plenty going on, including a new take on “The Hulk” and a new series starring a female superhero of their own called “AKA Jessica Jones” from “Twilight” writer Melissa Rosenberg.

David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman TV Show is Dead? Again?

user posted image

Man, being queen of the Amazons just isn’t what it used to be. After getting dropped before it even got started, then resurrected weeks later, David E. Kelley’s much talked about (in equal parts negatively and positively at last count) appears as if it’s dead for a second time.

While no official announcements have been made by NBC (indeed, official announcements are rarely made for shows that never get on the air in the first place), Deadline is reporting that the second incarnation of “Wonder Woman” on TV (set to star Adrianne Palicki as the superheroine) is “not going forward”.

This certainly sucks for those of us anxiously awaiting Palicki in that Wonder Woman costume. Of course, just because it’s not going forward at NBC doesn’t mean Kelley can’t still shop it to another network. Or a cable net. Personally, I’d like to see it on a cable net, where it doesn’t have to do 22 grueling episodes a season.

If this turns out to be true, are you guys rejoicing right now, or sadden that this may be the end for “Wonder Woman”?

Watch 7 Seconds of that Wonder Woman TV Show That Will Never Be

user posted image

I know most people were jumping for joy when it was announced that David E. Kelley’s rebooted “Wonder Woman” TV show was dead and buried and no one wanted to touch her tiara with a ten-foot pole. But I’m one of the few people who was looking forward to it. I’m no fan of Kelley’s, mind you (frankly, I can’t digest a single thing this guy has ever written or created, he’s that much of a counter point to my very existence), but I am a huge fan of Adrianne Palicki from her “Friday Night Lights” days, and was really hoping for bigger and better things for the gal. That movie career is still going, but it’s not as sizzling as it should be, and I was hoping a renewed TV career (as the female lead) would change all that.

Alas, it was not to be. And so, no “Wonder Woman” TV show.

But if it HAD gone through, this is what it would have looked like. Or at least, seven seconds of it from one of those blink and you’ll miss TV spots that NBC would have aired all over the network to entice you to demand more. Well, it’s 7 seconds total, but it’s really just 2 seconds of actual Palicki as Wonder Woman goodness.

Plot synopsis

QUOTE
“Wonder Woman” hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

You guys really complains about Gal Gadot too skinny for Wonder Woman. Now she already obtain some buff especially her bicep due to high strenth exercise.

She was for me DC's Hulk. Total scene stealer, love the fact that she carries a weapon,a shield and a utility weapon. She leaps into battle too and smile at her opponents.

Way too much time some have on their hands eh...

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins addresses rumours the film is 'a mess'

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertai...s-a7189826.html

QUOTE
Following the mediocre reception to both Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman, many DC fans are becoming increasingly worried about Warner Bros’ upcoming slate of superhero films.

Next up is Wonder Woman, the first trailer having taken the internet by storm earlier this year after debuting at Comic-Con in San Diego.

However, a critical letter published by an 'alleged former Warner Bros. employee' under the name Gracie Law has started doing the rounds online.

The author of the letter criticises the studio, specifically CEO Kevin Tsujihara, alledging the studio mishandled the likes of Edge of Tomorrow, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and The Hobbit trilogy.

Eventually, the studio’s DC film slate is mentioned, the disgruntled ‘ex-employee’ saying they have completely mangled the ‘entire slate’ of films, including Wonder Woman.

Judging by Suicide Squad, my hopes are now decimated for WW. Let's hope this works out.

not suprise since Warner Bros itself is a mess with DC material. They have no direction, just end up copying whatever is 'Hype' from current movies, rather then Creating story movie telling.

All Trailers from MoS, BvS and SS are awesome but Movies didnt live up the the hype.

WW trailer is awesome as well so is JS. But if they DO NOT produce great stories to tell, instead give Weak plots, Generic Forgetful Villains. DC Cinematic Movies are just gonna gets worse despite how Charismatic or Awesome the Heroes/Heroine looked (Flash/Wonder Woman)

I have lots of avid DC fans that aren't entirely happy with the rudderless situation that's currently plaguing their efforts as far. Ever since Nolan's (DK trilogy) work, he set the bar. Well, previously Zack's 'watchmen' (directors cut) was also good.

Perhaps it is as rumours pointed out that the interference or studio execs hampering the (DC's) movie's creativity post Nolan's Dark Knights trilogy.

We don’t know who the villain in Wonder Woman is, but judging by her creepy mask and look in the first trailer, Elena Anaya’s character was a good guess! It turns out… we were right! The actress confirmed that she’s playing a villain in a new interview with Spanish website SensaCine.

“Well, it was a small role in this big ensemble, but it is an important character in the story. It’s directed by Patty Jenkins, then there’s Gal Gadot as our main lead, Chris Pine as her co-lead and I’m going to be… a big nightmare for the two of them”.

Rumored to play Doctor Poison

user posted image

A little background of her:

QUOTE
Doctor Poison is the name of two fictional villains who have battled Wonder Woman. Both villains were members of the super-villain team Villainy Inc.

Princess Maru

In 1942 Princess Maru became Doctor Poison, who disguising her gender via a bulky hooded costume and mask, was the leader of a Nazi spy ring whose ultimate goal was to wreak havoc in the US Army by contaminating the army's water with "reverso", a drug that "confuses the brain centers… [making] soldiers do the exact opposite of what they are told". This effects tens of thousands of soldiers. She kidnapped Steve Trevor and Diana Prince in an attempt to learn spy secrets. Wonder Woman escapes, but does not alert the army as Steve is still held in the fortress.

This plan is foiled by the Amazon heroine Wonder Woman in the first appearance of the Holiday Girls, who pretend to just be a parade and gets the guards to dance for them before hancuffing them and Doctor Poison is imprisoned after her identity is revealed, but she later escapes and, in 1943, now working for Japan, grounds all US planes along the front of China via a "green gas" which "enters the carburetor and stops the engine." Wonder Woman halts this scheme as well, and Doctor Poison is imprisoned on Transformation Island, the Amazon penal colony where she pretends to be reformed. She is not seen again until 1948, when she and seven other female super-villains escape and pool their talents as Villainy Inc.; led by the Saturnian slaver Eviless, the evil eight are again defeated by Wonder Woman. Throughout most of her first appearance Doctor Poison was believed to be a male due to her disguise, and she retained this "drag king" garb in her later appearances; whether this guise was simply a necessity of assuming power within the male-dominated Axis governments or indicative of something else is difficult to say at this late date.

Powers and abilities
Doctor Poison is an expert in the use of poisons, toxins and plagues.

“Wonder Woman’s not a dark character,” says Jenkins. “I want to tell a very positive story. I feel like for years everything was leaning harder and darker. There was an expectation that Wonder Woman needed to be tougher or harder, too. But for me, the final victory is if she remains warm and loving.”

What was Jenkins’ vision for telling Wonder Woman’s story?

For her it was very important to not just portray her as a goddess, but to tell a very simple story of someone who believes in good and believes that people should be happy and lead safe, happy lives. We cared a lot about simplifying Wonder Woman’s agenda, because it is simple. It was her heart that we cared about, not her being this warrior. When you tell a story from the heart, all of us can relate, because all of us want to live in a safe, quiet, and peaceful world.

yeah..she did buff up a lot since her days in Fast and Furious. Much better now but I would have like it better if she can be as buff as Lucy Lawless when she was in Xena.

Still, with a lot of packaging they did made her look better than expected.

what i meant was all the previous DC got super villians.. but this WW looks like vs normal human only... doesn't have much oomph since the super heroin can easily wipe the humans off.. i'm hoping at least has a super villian with powers

There is a point in any good origin story where the hero has to make the decision to step out on her own, forge her own path, and fight for what’s right. For Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), her moment comes when she disobeys her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen); breaks into the heavily guarded armory on her idyllic all-female island of Themyscira; and — as seen in the exclusive image above — steals the Amazon’s mythical sword, the “god killer,” before heading to Europe to help save humanity.

“This is her moment,” says director Patty Jenkins (Monster). “She’s heard all the terrible things about man’s land. But she’s also heard that mankind is in need and under duress. This is her great moment to make the decision to be the one to try and save them.”

For more exclusive first looks, pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on stands Friday, or buy it here — and subscribe for more exclusive interviews and photos, only in EW.

Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2. After that, she’ll be seen teaming with the rest of the Justice League for that film, arriving in November.

"What motivates her is philosophical," explains director Patty Jenkins on the truly wondrous Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), seen here on the World War I battlefield. "She isn't just taking out bad guys or fighting crime. She believes in goodness and love. [She] is fierce and willing to fight, but only to protect a better vision for mankind. Hers is really a coming-of-age story."

Jenkins also went some way to explain the World War I setting. "My approach was to focus on telling the story of mechanised war and how that would look to a god visiting our world for the first time," Jenkins explains. "[I wanted the audience to understand the horrors that a war on this scale makes possible and how shocking that would be to someone who comes with a strong sense of honour and justice. She doesn't realise yet just how senselessly dark the world can be."

Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. It turns out that it might interest Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (the Amazons and Zeus rebelled against Ares and Zeus died from the hand of his son)

- Producer Deborah Snyder attributes the success of the female-driven The Hunger Games franchise to helping people realize there’s an audience for a movie like Wonder Woman
- Director Patty Jenkins pitched a Wonder Woman movie to Warner Bros. 10 years ago. Unfortunately they were afraid to move forward in a male-dominated market, Jenkins said.
- It was Zack Snyder’s idea to introduce Wonder Woman into the DC Films universe when he was developing the Batman v Superman story.
- Gal Gadot was one of 5 finalists for the role of Wonder Woman. Deborah Snyder said that every single department was pulling for her during her chemistry test with Ben Affleck because they all loved her.
- Gal Gadot didn’t find out she’d be starring in her own Wonder Woman movie until the very end of the Batman v Superman shoot. “I think they were still auditioning me while I was doing the movie,” she said with a smile.
- When Patty Jenkins first signed on to Wonder Woman she was apprehensive about having her leading lady already cast, but quickly fell in love with Gal Gadot. “I don’t know that I ever would have thought to look all over the world, but thank God they did and thank God it’s her,” she said.

Wonder Woman, DC Comics’ greatest heroine, comes to the big screen on June 2, 2017, for the first major motion picture in her 75-year history! The all-star cast includes Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, and more.

To the outside world, Diana Prince is just a regular woman. But that’s not who she truly is. Diana is an Amazon princess from the island of Themyscira. She is also Wonder Woman. From a secret hidden island to the frontlines of battle, Diana is ready for the role of a lifetime—to become the hero the world needs most.

Can you talk a bit about the DC “tone” and how Wonder Woman fits into that?

JENKINS: All I can say is that from my point of view, there is no mandate on tone that I experienced. So I think every filmmaker is making their own movie in the tone that they see right for that movie. So I have no pressure on me to not do the same. So I came in saying, “Superman 1” and “It’s an origin story” and casting Chris, who I knew and was so funny, and all of these things. And they were seeing it shape up as what it shaped up as and supporting it. I think that will also be true with Aquaman and Flash all of those movies. I don’t think there is one tone. I think maybe Christopher Nolan had a serious tone, and Zack [Snyder] has a different tone that is also serious in a different way. So I think it became a perception that there was one tone, but that’s not what I had heard. I heard that there were these different superheroes and I was coming in to make one. And I was supported it making it the tone I wanted to make it.

Looks good, can't wait. As long as they stick to the source material and focus on story and characterization, the film should do great 😄

Heard this is the first film in dceu that geoff johns is heavily involved in, so should be great (then again, he doesn't really have a midas touch anyways)

So DC is finally lightening up after going down the dark route eh? Not a bad choice and the trailer looks really slick. I finally feel like I want to watch it.

ngehhh, I dont know about this latest trailer. Some of the script doesn't strike a right cord for me. I was excited on the first (or is it second?) trailer though. Now I'm back on skepticism mode to this latest DCEU installment.

I think wb is passionate enough about dceu and learnt a lot from the past films on how to handle the dceu at this point

So, cross fingers, hopefully it will be as good as man of steel

The skinny: Not only is Wonder Woman noteworthy for giving DC Comics’ female icon her first solo film but also for putting its superhero in a real-world setting: World War I. Princess Diana (Gadot) of Themyscira is introduced to the world of men during “the first mechanized war, where mankind is really pushing the boundaries of what they’re willing to do to each other,” says Jenkins. “If you tried to do it in a more literal event that we all know the details of, it would bog it down. (It would be) an alternate reality where you’re like, ‘That’s not how Watergate went.’ It could be more complicated.” Jenkins also used the era as a way to reflect social issues of more modern times: “She’s never met men before, so she has zero understanding of sexism in kind of a hilarious way. It just seems totally absurd to her.”

Why Ares was the right villain for Wonder Woman

“I mean I think he’s the biggest villain of Wonder Woman’s world, and so I think if you’re going to start off big, start off right with the greatest villain.”

“It was a great delight to place him in the world in a way where he believes in exactly what a real true Ares does. And what kind havoc would Ares wreak on this planet and how? There’s some pretty good jobs to put them in for that.”

Wonder Woman: See the moment Gal Gadot’s Diana becomes a hero
Exclusive concept art shows the scene where Diana first reveals her iconic garb in Patty Jenkins’ standalone film

user posted image

QUOTE
Becoming a superhero is no easy feat. It takes patience, a bit of circumstance, and more than a dash of wisdom. Such is the case with Princess Diana (Gal Gadot), who must first leave her idyllic homeland of Themyscira, gain an understanding of mankind in war-torn 1918 Europe, and discover her true power before she can truly become Wonder Woman. That sequence — shown in the concept art above — occurs about halfway through director Patty Jenkins’ highly anticipated DC Comics standalone (due out June 2), in the grim no-man’s-land between English and German battlefield trenches.

Though Diana has been told she can’t cross it and must play by man’s rules, she takes it upon herself to save women and children threatened by the Germans. “It’s a very powerful moment,” Gadot says. “We have a character committing to her true self, doing what she believes needs to be done.”

Diana is thrust toward her destiny after American intelligence officer Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes near her island, pursued by the German army. Trevor has discovered that German general Erich Ludendorff (Danny Huston) has plans to release a chemical super weapon, potentially killing millions. Diana wants to help — convinced that this evil could only be the work of Ares, the God of War.

Trevor escorts Diana to England, where she catches her first glimpse of industrialized London, or Man’s Land, a world she doesn’t quite understand, specifically the era’s antiquated gender and social norms. But it’s this battlefield scene that marks the first time Diana reveals her iconic garb — a moment that Jenkins (Monster) equates to Superman ripping apart his dress shirt to unveil the S across his chest: “It’s when she says, ‘Enough is enough.’”

Executive producer and chief creative officer of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns goes a step further with the Superman analogy. “[This scene] reminds me of when Superman caught Lois and caught the helicopter [in the 1978 movie],” he says. “But this one is even more visceral.”

And more beautiful.

Couldn't care less if DC / Marvel. A good film is worth watching and if it's not, I don't watch.

Regretted watching BvS, skipped Suicide Squad and grateful for that.

Here's hoping Wonder Woman will truly shine in all regards.

BvS had pacing issues no doubt, but it has its moments. Battle of Metropolis, batman's warehouse scene, and yes, even the martha scene cry.gif
Suicide Squad's story was meh, but it excelled in characterization, with heavy focus on the backstories to drive the plot forward

Man of Steel was awesome, a grounded origin story, a believable villain that you can empathize with, dunno why critics trashed it

How Wonder Woman (finally) got her very own movie

QUOTE
On March 20, The New York Times published a Metropolitan Diary column about a group of octogenarians on their way to see Fences. While taking an escalator in a movie theater near Union Square, the women chatted about the future. “I hope I live until summer,” said one. “Why?” asked another. “Because your granddaughter is getting married?” “No!” the first woman said. “Because I want to see the Wonder Woman movie.”

That little exchange has had a big impact on Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins. “It brought tears to my eyes,” she says. “Because I love Wonder Woman, and I have grown up seeing who else loves Wonder Woman, I know there is this huge swath of women — and men — who love Wonder Woman in this old-school way.”

On June 2, Jenkins (Monster) will unveil her action-packed ode to the iconic Amazon princess, and finally — 76 years after psychologist William Moulton Marston created her — Wonder Woman will star in her own film. The origin story tracks Princess Diana’s transformation from a young, curious, and somewhat rebellious child living on the idyllic island of Themyscira among her all-female family into a bullheaded young woman. Played with a mix of spunk and humility by Israeli actress Gal Gadot, Diana is spurred toward her destiny when Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), an American spy, crashes near the island and informs Diana of the horrors awaiting him back in World War I Europe, circa 1918. Motivated by her duty as an Amazon to protect the vulnerable, she ventures to London on a mission to kill Ares, the God of War, whom she suspects is responsible for it all.

“Diana starts more naive than most of us, but she ends more mature than most of us,” Jenkins says. “She learns that it’s not going to be at all what you think it is to be a hero, and that what it means to be loving and kind is complicated.”

What’s even more complicated than Wonder Woman’s hero quest is the character’s decades-long journey to the screen. In this week’s cover story, we examine why Warner Bros. has made seven Superman movies since Christopher Reeve first showed audiences he could fly in 1978 and eight Batman films, but not one Wonder Woman project until last year when she debuted in D.C.’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

I remember Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad having rave reviews (I was all hyped up and all) a few weeks before opening and going downhill after that so I'm not getting too excited. But then those two movies where different and were more darker/serious so maybe this one will surprise us.

According to my wife the movie...a pretty charming fish out of water kind of story. Her korean soap drama tastebud can attest its a lot better than Thor and will please crowd that wanted a "girl power" role model. She freelance with WB HK to work on marketing.

this movie is seemingly epic.

the extended fight scenes reminds me of civil war cap's opening scene.
except grittier and longer.
very well choreographed.

so looking forward to it.

please dont suck.

Just watched Wonder Woman from the premiere screening.

I like how the soundtrack blends so well with the fight scene, especially the theme song, well done Hans Zimmer.

Hope you all will enjoy the movie like I did. Cheers

On a whole Wonder Woman manage to distinguish itself from the other comic book movies by having a lot of heart in handling the characterization. The origin story felt necessary as oppose to by the checklist like the marvel movies. The first two acts really strong but the ending just a tad generic to me personally.
The biggest gripe I had is Ares reduced to your stereotypical villain that you don't care a whole lot.Gal Gadot still that pretty looking thing cannot do hevylifting acting but very convincing as action heroine in kicking butts.Luckily the supporting cast like heavyweight Connie Nielson,Robin Wright and a very likable Chris Pine make up for it.
This is a much better movie than the first Captain America and Thor combine together but not the Nolan's Batman Begins good.Still very watchable and fun that can compete against what Marvel has to offer.

This is easily the best DCEU movie thus far.

For once, they actually had a compelling story and compelling characters.

I can only hope that Justice League keeps the momentum going.

Wonder Woman. Best superhero(iene) movie from DC Comics. They got it right. Good pacing, not too schizophrenic that plagued past DC. Probably the WB execs were told to be hand off (finally)

Gal Gadot is great Wonder Woman 👍🏻

Great superhero movie, DC. WW was enjoyable and certainly favorbly than even GOTG vol2.

A little melodramatic bits for some but otherwise great. Location of the WW2 town setting reminded me of the exact town setup setting in David Ayer's WW2 movie (Fury).

I think it work very well this time too as they emphasized more on story than have parts of movie focusing on grandeur of the environment too much. Maybe towards the end was as what 6So said (generic). But otherwise it's a deserved send-off /closing for the movie.

Warner Bros certainly deserves the credit for best-reviewed superhero movie since it's 2008’s The Dark Knight.

Kudos to for Warner Bros opting Patty Jenkings (over other reported directors for WW)

I rate this film 4/5. Great acting, character development, action and world building. Plot is generic though, and the CGI can be a bit jarring.

But dem, Gal Gadot is definitely Wonder Woman. That moment when Diana finally decides to do something = EPIC

Watched it, liked it, but didn't love it. Not on the same level as MoS and BvS

That final fight scene. Ugh, could've been better. Ares not as intimidating and worthy of an opponent as Zod and Doomsday. Damn, didn't expect him to be that 'weak'. And didn't expect to have that much talking during a fight! Even Batman's fight against Superman is much more epic. All WW's fights look cool bcs she has tools, while Superman has nothing

And why doesn't Ares' look look cooler? Ugh, was hoping that he would transform into a more Godly face or something. He should've had red eyes and more fierce look. That look with mustache and all. Yikes

On the contrary the third act and ending was quite well done. A lot of people didn't quite get the ending but the movie has already spent quite some time building diana's character and the whole point of the final act was not supposed to be a super saiyan epic battle between ww and ares, rather a test of diana's character when put into that kind of situation and given a choice to decide humanity's fate

Watched it last night. I think it's the best DC film so far. Mainly i think its because they stick to the old fashion story telling. It's very safe and some would even call generic (i kinda feel its very marvel like) but I don;t know whether its just old age catching up on me but i think there's a comfort where i can just sit back, disengage my brain and just enjoy the ride. There's more character, relationship plot developments in this film, but ultimately i just appreciate its simple story telling.

This is something that has been missing in Snyder's films i reckon. I love his art direction and for me he's a great visual director. But his fims just lack cohesion and substance. In any case, i feel this is a decent if not a very promising comeback from DC. Good stuff.

To me, the story was kinda generic, but simple enough for a wide audience to follow. What I appreciated about the film was that it actually took the time to have quite a number of quiet moments, and each one helped shaped diana to what she is in the end of the film.

Granted the final act was a bit too fantastical and out of place after the groundedness of the first two acts. Ares's explanation in his perspective of how humanity cannot be saved made sense to me and it presented diana with a unique scenario of doing the right thing, despite the circumstances

All that is easily understood. The film didn't really try to make it subtle lol. And it's a cliched resolve, really. Though I really do respect the deeper themes that the narratives carry. Well, they did try to make it a super saiyan fight and disappointingly, it's highly unimpressive compared to the other action sequences in first two acts.

It's a good modern superhero flick. It ticks most of the boxes. But it's definitely not perfect. The third act could've been better.

It's something the director left audiences with to connect the dots. It's sprinkled all over the film, like that scene when diana looks at a german woman's dress and without further exposition, cuts straight to the scene when she enters the ballroom with a new dress. The film trusts you to connect the dots yourself

Anyways it's not hard to grasp. Steve trevor wanted to save humanity even at the cost of his own life. Loving steve means honoring his sacrifice, his memory and his ideals. And not killing dr. poison was her first step towards this goal. And not going along with ares's plan to destroy humanity is her second step. And the third step, was staying in men's world to continue steve's fight to save humanity from itself

99% of a superhero origin story cannot escape the construct of monomyth cycle. You can remix the sequencing or change the context,in the end it's a hero's journey trope that you are familiar with.Maybe the sequel will free the shackle from sticking to an expected path of storytelling construct.Make no mistake I'm not eating up how the ending went.

Also worth pointing out Patty Jenkins not a name you associated with action flick. She made Charlize Theron an Oscar winner and responsible for the US remake of The Killing tv show.Actually she can handle gritty and dark themes.Felt she fought tooth and nail to retain the first two act while the last act for toeing the line of doing business with a big studio.Perhaps with the success of WW she able to command some demand from the studio.

Errr... actually that scene is far too obvious. No dots-connecting required haha...

It is indeed very easy to understand. It's just not convincing to a profound and emotional level that I would've liked.

The story line is the worst, the origin story is not convincing enough, the villain is negligible, gal gadot acting is kayu, you can clearly see she cannot handle emotional scene. The only pro in this movie is the music score by Zimmerman and the fighting scene. 5/10 for me. Hopefully justice league will be better.

For me, the most epic scene in the film was when she climbs out of the trench and 'No Man's Land' played

Sigh, it's pretty much unanimous that the villain is generic. Seems like critics are all for generic villain. That's why they like it. What has CBM become. Smh

Hoping that Snyder continues to not give a shit abt critics

Complex villains can work if they're written well enough
Doing a generic villain is less risky

No, ares is a villain who thinks he is doing the right thing by wiping out humanity to save the earth

He's very similar to agent smith from the matrix in this regard

Feels like a Disney’s Marvel then Warner’s DC Universe : highly predictable, kids-friendly joke, bright clean visual, positive vibe & etc. in fact it feels like a female version of Captain America. Honestly I prefer Batman V Superman or Suicide Squad, they may have many flaws but at least it offer something different from Marvel.

"Logan" still remain my best comic-adapted movie of 2017 smile.gif

the movie was good. i just felt like Gal Gadot could've done better, in terms of acting. most of the time her acting to me was kinda kayu la, but the scene when she was confronting the generals in the room was good and funny. the ending scene was too basic lmao

the fighting scenes were really good though.

Chill bro, it's an origin story. Batman begins is quite a light-hearted movie, then became quite serious and dark with tdk

First good DCEU movie. Very refreshing to watch after the bad aftertaste left by messy BvS and the total fcuked up that is the Suicide Squad. The final act is bogged down by generic main villain unfortunately (which ironically is the same problem that is facing almost every Marvel lol).

Croc in Suicide Squad was supposed to be 3-4x the size of a full grown man. Look how tiny he was in comparison.

There comes a point where they can't CG everything unfortunately.

Anyways, those slow scenes are integral to character development, which is one of the main reasons why this film gets such high ratings icon_rolleyes.gif

If only... if only this was released prior to BvS, it would have given WW a lot more weightage when she first appears! laugh.gif When you do watch BvS again, seeing WW there won't feel the same anymore.

Watched this today... definitely the best DC film in DCEU, great origin story, likeable characters, brilliant action set pieces (that trench scene...!) and Gal Gadot... she is WW. Gal Gadot truly shines here. I found myself saying "Whoa... she's pretty... several times" more times here than in BvS biggrin.gif

Kudos to Patty Jenkins for her direction and the writing is definitely up to 'superhero / Marvel' origin standards.

That trench scene was truly memorable... the music kicking in and WW getting into high gear. For me that was the highlight of the film.

My biggest gripe would be the villain sweat.gif Hmmm.... saving the 'best' for last in the DCEU perhaps? Who knows.

I liked how they used the Greek/Amazonian mythology to good use, without overly doing it. Not too much, just right for you to get interested. This part could easily have been overdone but they did not. The beach scene was great too. Love the 300-style slow-mo action.

Overall, this is the best DC film to date worth checking out.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Would have been nice to see another DC character making a cameo, but that's Marvel's way I guess, no post credits too which is totally fine. If DC can keep making their films with this level finesse and care, it can only go uphill from here.

"Justice League"... looking forward to it, though I have my skepticism since it is helmed by Snyder but let's hope WW is the start of DCEU era of great films.

Wonder Woman (2017)

Wow, DC is literally holding it's breath.

After the critically panned (and have to add, actually money making) Batman Vs Superman (2016) and Suicide Squad (2016) DC need a strong showing for their DC material before their A-Lister movie, Justice League.

Having said that, this movie is vital. If this gets a poor review, it may have disastrous consequence for Justice League (later this year).

So, how is this movie?

I am only familiar with George Perez's comic stint of Wonder Woman.

And it actually started me on my comic collection.

And it is this origins that I am most familiar with.

It was an excellent comic. Imbuing Greek mythos in she origins (prior to that, her origin was word of mouth but George retold everything is gorgeous comic drawing detail).

In that iteration, the Amazon was created using the souls of women abused throughout history and were eventually killed by men...

The goddess in Greece mythos, created the Amazons so show mankind what can be... (eg. peace for all).

And if you remember you Greek mythos one of Hercules' task for Hippolyta belt (and according to what is suggested in the comic, Hercules took advantage of Hippolyta during that task)

After that the goddess not wanting their creation for be abused further by mankind, created Paradise Island (Themyscira) only then did Hippolyta shaped a baby by the beach and the goddesses and surprisingly Hermes put the last soul of woman abused throughout history into the baby.

I understand from Wikipedia, her origins had since been tweaked and it is this latest origins they had used for the movie (I still prefer George's version)

I am going on the record that DC had got this movie right.

The story, the casting the production.... the humanity (the primary ingredient)!! I can find tiny flaws, and have to add, it is nitpicking.

This would not hurt Justice League.

If anything, may even draw more ticket sales for it.

Go watch this.

Yes, they did get into gear well for Wonder Woman.

Everything fell into place n even the villain (Ares) even if some felt it was poor rendition in it. I though it was prefect, otherwise it would create unbalanced weight to the movie as it was WW recollection. If Ares played a pivotal(bigger than was given) role in WW, it would have not create the wiser heroine. She was a little naive earlier but learned the lesson about humanity. (Which was the absolute theme they wanted to put across to viewers)

Good build up for Justice League, and instead DC has steadied for further superhero movies

Is that the main reason why director don't want to hire her act in a movie? Because of her weird accent.

Got an article mentioned that she's almost give up in acting because she failed many times in audition session

Just nice for me.

No hate at all, I really in love with the No man's Land epic scene, that part already made me said wow loudly in the cinema.

The plot twist kinda unexpected but meh.

Chris Pine, he made this movie turn right all along whenever he's on the scene.

Actually I quite like the fact that she speak non-perfect english.

Depending on which origin story you refer from comics, or lets say the movie iteration, the amazonians are branched from greek mythologies. SO why should they speak perfect english?

Its also mentioned that they can speak 80 different languages so English is just one of them.

Also, I love the spin, for the fact that not all super heroes have to be muricans and brits la. Who decides they are the better race, anyone can be a super hero.

In DCEU, greek gods are considered the old gods. In the WW film, it was insinuated that the old gods are no more, but I have a feeling hippolyta didn't tell diana the whole story, as JL will go a bit more into detail about the old vs new gods war and how the motherboxes came to earth. AFAIK, the amazons has possession of a mother box, which explains how their culture was able to advance through the ages

Wait till shazam when they introduce kahndaq, it's heavily influenced by Egyptian mythology

I think its still within release dates, WW had little to non reshoots, it meant the initial story board to film was well accepted to selected viewing groups. and i suppose it shows the conceptualised was quite spot on.

JL is a different beast, a lot more to chew since it involves a whole lot of 'superheroes' than BvS. I think DC comics & WB learned a lot from that & the predecessor MOS. I do find WW (movie) catered few more lighter banter than all previous DC's efforts. Not withstanding to SS

What loose end is there to tighten???The public couldn't care less about the new gods.Majority of the movie goers don't even know who is Orion or Big Barda or Mr.Miracle.Visually they are just gaudy to realize on screen and too convoluted to contain within a brief exposition scene.
There are more popular characters to milk than going for the 2nd or 3rd tier characters.
All it needs some justification of a world ending event...not even sure JL will feature Darkseid prominently as no major announcement who is playing him.Won't rule out they might have casted Matt Damon.biggrin.gif

Come to think about how the CBM has been for this year...Marvel still doing the same shit like their last release.Homecoming felt just like another Spidey that I have no qualm not watching and I doubt Thor Ragnarok can be a game changer to the formula although Waititi might flip the genre a little bit.
Whereas Logan and WW became the monster cultural footprint that got plenty of attention while GOTG2 zilch...nada!!!Pretty sure JL will be riding on the buzz of WW and king of the nerd finishing the movie.WW now got the female movie goers flipping over a strong female heroine that they wanted all these years.Guess Marvel people got no balls to call first dip on the lucrative market segment. Now Captain Marvel will be forever under the limelight of WW.
More importantly fortune favors the bold for not being complacent to peddle the same thing over and over again. Also started to see articles contesting the validity of a shared universe when Logan and WW technically are standalone narrative.

For Ares they should have just left his face hidden once he donned his helmet, or make it so that his British guy appearance was just a disguise, I do like that he forged his armour straight from the destroyed machines though, that part was badass

Would love to watch it a few more times but I just really hate the climax. Ares blabbering non stop throughout the fight was a real turn off.

Quite the typical DC movies. They talk move than fight. Marvel does the opposite. The talk and reasoning first before the fight

But Gal Gadot nailed this character so perfectly. Whoever recommended that she take the character deserved a raise.

Wow the poster colorization and design is like a piece of art 😋

Wonder woman I thought was just above average can't say it was good.

I'm hoping the sequel would be good cross fingers

At least now I realize I cant be the only 1 who felt Wonder Women to be an utterly average film. Tbh, I dont even youtube it lol...when I do for B-grade films

I dunno why...maybe cuz its female-oriented or female director or the slow pacing or lack of tension or substantial villain... the sequel doesnt even interest me. Maybe I'll download it...if reviews were positive

Such a shame cuz Gal Gadot/WW was proved to be such a badass when she fought against Doomsday in BvS. I dont wish they tone-down her so badly

I think can't compare WW when she's in BVS & her origin. Her origin haven't been grown up & mature like in BvS. Well that just my own opinion.

Anyhow I also thought that first WW it just around above average, but still consider watchable.

Long wait finally came to an end cry.gif

Things I learnt from this trailer
- Steve is somehow alive
- 1984 is cool
- Tiara throw!
- Bana-Mighdall (city of a split faction of the Amazons)!
- Golden armor!
- "That's just a trash can" just became the hottest meme this week

Seems like it's already insinuated in the trailer

Diana cuts a deal with the devil (Maxwell Lord). He grants her wish and brings Steve back from the dead using unknown means
In exchange for "something" from Diana, maybe her powers (she's shown to be visibly injured in the trailer)

It's highly probable that Barbara Ann Minerva also got her wish from Max Lord, but with a caveat that turns her into Cheetah

Looking forward to Diana and Steve getting back together again, but we know where's it gonna lead to cry.gif

Apparently some event in this film would tie in with Diana's motivation in JL where she was doubtful about superman being brought back to life again

Watched the trailer. Was dope. Never got the hype for WW & felt movie was overrated. Now this one however....might be just great. Really looking forward to this film. Gal Gadot seems to have really enjoyed this film & wish some emotional connection would be there in this film to invest in the characters. Wouldn't be surprised if it surpasses Joker's BO collection tbh

WB will try to get as much box office as possible with a cinema release. Who knows, it may do well internationally and break even.

To be a profitable wide screen movie release in 2020 is going to be mighty challenging.

"Tenet" has a cumulative gross of $353 million - an incredible feat considering a pandemic year but apparently to break even it needed $500 million.

I’m actually looking forward to watching this movie on Christmas day, since I have an active subscription for HBO Max. With the 2021 movies lining up to be available for HBO Max, it will easily become the best streaming platform. The only challenge is the distribution rights to most countries, currently still available for US only.

I mean, I have the entire DC Universe in one streaming platform, what more can one ask for? laugh.gif

basically the covid-19 is turning lots of us into pirates doh.gif

I seriously wanna support those movies in cinemas, but with them either delayed, limited release, stream only and worst of all, all local cinemas are closed until TBA?

unfortunately for most of us there's only one easy way to scratch that itch, piracy sad.gif

Ah nothing beats watching it in a cinema, on IMAX especially. I’m a cinema buff myself and I am darn grateful to have watched Tenet on IMAX, will probably be my last movie of 2020 in the cinema.

Piracy is still a no-no for me. I mean, these studios need money to fund for movies man, we can’t take that away from them.

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Hello kiddies!

How is everyone?

I hope everyone is well.

It is showing.

It is NOT showing.

Oh it is showing.

Duing this difficult time, I am sure there are alot of spectators to the world of politics (both in the US and locally) and also the Covid-19 situation.

I on the other hand THE news I was following was whether or not Wonder Woman 1984 is going to show.

I salivated for this movie (that is right I SALIVATED!)

And after all the wait

After wondering why GSC website isn't taking ticketing sales (you have to use their app doh.gif)

How IS the movie?

50/50

There are some part of this movie I absolutely LOVE!!!

There are some parts where I went shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

First arch, pure gold.

The beginning at the second arch, still good.

And things went south after that...

Maybe because of the wait, my expectation are feverishly high (no no, I do not have Covid-19, not need to get the health minister to commit me)

This could have been such an amazing movie (to me).

Some part of the script I feel can be made much better....

Do not take my word about this. If you are safe in your local cinema, please consider watching this. The production value is great.

And like always, this is JUST, My Two Sen

something is definitely wrong with Wonder Woman movie this time. I can't tell further, later I spoil it but don't get me wrong! I still love this movie, I even almost crying emotionally, lots of love.. emotional, These are all in the movie.
Just watch it, it's worth watching.. It's just that, maybe my expectation is way too high..

My score?
Sadly, I have to give 6/10 cry.gif

Just watched it at Alamanda just now. Lepas stress sikit after many months of MCO hehe tongue.gif

What I liked
- Solid and engaging plot, crazy build-up from start to finish with the threat of global catastrophe looming with every scene. Ends with a strong message that's relevant with the times
- There's also a few emotional scenes. I knew it was coming and I thought I was prepared for it, but dem, this film still made me cry
- They finally fixed the villain problem from the first film. WW84 had a truly sympathetic villain (from the moment he walks into his office, you already start empathizing for him). Barbara Minerva/Cheetah was okay, but she had too few scenes
- Gal Gadot hngghh factor really sells the film

What I hated
- Too few action scenes for a standard CBM. Honestly the director dunno how to shoot action scenes. Many lolwut and 'that doesn't obey the laws of physics at all' scenes
- Jarring and low budget VFX
- Fan service zzz

Overall, a good solid film through and through and a worthy sequel to the first film. Really recommend this film, it gets a 4/5 from me

Some additional notes:
- Really loved diana and max lord's arc in this film. For max, he becomes the villain without even realizing it. Diana finally gets closure for steve

I think many people entered the cinema hall to see wonder woman go super saiyan s2 to beat the hell out of the bad guy whilst the true meaning and message of the film flew over their heads
This film kinda subverts expectations by not going with a big flashy third act with lasers and explosions, instead culminates in a clash of ideals, which has been built up from the start

Yeah it has flaws but it did few things way better than the first film. Both films are almost equal in my opinion.

Objectively it's just an OK movie, while some degree of improvement over the first one but not in any form or shape a masterpiece that push the genre forward. Maybe age started to catch up on me as my interest in these big budget CBM significantly deteriorates. Not enough meaningful substance for me to latch on.

My issue with this movie is all the superficial surface level narrative. Kinda going through a series of checkbox with unfulfilling payoffs. The saving grace Gal Gardot still the quintessential WW that you ignore all the plot holes because of her presence. The first movie is the charming fish out of water moment meanwhile here borderline revisiting an old cliche with role reversal. This sequel just lacks an iconic scene like the first one with no man's land assault and the human dramas less gripping for me. If I shut my brain off still can rewatch just that it's not offensive enough for me to completely shut it off like some MCU films.

The plot is really mess.. never ever i bashed DC movies before, as a DC comic fan, It is really painful to watch my beloved character wonder woman written like this cry.gif
The actors are good, but the plot? the scripts?

Among all the recent DC superheroes movies, WW84 is not the worst, but it belongs to the bottom of the bin together with BvS which is the worst IMO

Went into IMAX hall without reading any reviews, have some expectation that it's at least on par with Aquaman or WW, but came out dissapointed

IMAX imo is a waste, not much scenes you can appreciate on the bigger screen, only plus point for me is the better sound effects.

CGI? what the f is wrong with WB/DC? Some of the scenes just scream cheap and lazy CGI! it reminds me of the Supe's beard again doh.gif

and the Deus ex machina ending... doh.gif 'nuff said

4/10 for me

ww84 was terrible on so many levels.

highway scene.
cgi was bad and defies logic. on small screen it looks bad. on big screen i think it will look uglier. when diana saved the two kids, physics was completely thrown out the window. it was really painful to watch and to acknowledge what dumb down experience the producers/director put on the viewers.

opening scene was all cgi fest. and the positioning of the text during opening was ill placed, too big, too intrusive. the youtube 3 minute opening scene was so much cleaner and better.

storyline. terrible. horrible. aghast!
what was max motive? how did he know about the stone. heck they didn't even care to explain the stone origins and details. i didn't even know what he was doing in the third act. it's like he is just rushing along without a plan. he himself doesn't know what he wants. bummer!

fan service. yeap it's great that they wanted to pay fan service. but what an incredibly lame story of introducing the invisible jet, wonder woman's ability to fly. absolutely disgusting!

conclusion, the director was horrible. she just couldn't piece the scenes together well enough, execution was not to details, and it didn't help that gal herself was one of the producers.

i feel that the biggest win for me was the mid ending credit scene. that was the big deal to me!

overall a 3/10 for me with such cast and budget.

I give it 8 out of 10 for this movie. Just in case you guys don't know. It was shot on 35mm film to give those vintage grainy soft look.

The only time I've seen this steep drop in quality from the same team was IT Chapter 2, which was also WB.

God that scene where they trying to logic how she can fly is stupid as shit.

Movie is set in the 80s, half expected it to be cheesy fun.
The fan service and action scenes are kinda eh, but why are people nitpicking stuff like dream stone and lasso magic tak logic? Don't see people nitpicking infinity stones, or doctor strange doing magic

Honestly, Patty got too much free reign on this movie, took too many liberties with the lore and any DC executive worth his salt wouldn't approve some stuff in this film. Still the emotional parts were A+

In terms of the template of DC movies going forward, still regard Aquaman and Shazam highly, and they should build upon these movies

The cgi in themyscira was good, then it went downhill from there. Patty doesn't know how to direct action honestly, dunno who she hired as the stunt/vfx coordinator but they should be fired lol

I enjoy any Marvel or DC movies.

Good or bad.

WW84...

Weak storyline.

Weak casts.

Grandma cameo wink.gif

To me, she' the hottest WW ever.

Back in the old days of course.
