According to my wife the movie...a pretty charming fish out of water kind of story. Her korean soap drama tastebud can attest its a lot better than Thor and will please crowd that wanted a "girl power" role model. She freelance with WB HK to work on marketing.

On a whole Wonder Woman manage to distinguish itself from the other comic book movies by having a lot of heart in handling the characterization. The origin story felt necessary as oppose to by the checklist like the marvel movies. The first two acts really strong but the ending just a tad generic to me personally. The biggest gripe I had is Ares reduced to your stereotypical villain that you don't care a whole lot.Gal Gadot still that pretty looking thing cannot do hevylifting acting but very convincing as action heroine in kicking butts.Luckily the supporting cast like heavyweight Connie Nielson,Robin Wright and a very likable Chris Pine make up for it. This is a much better movie than the first Captain America and Thor combine together but not the Nolan's Batman Begins good.Still very watchable and fun that can compete against what Marvel has to offer.

QUOTE(tonYe @ Jun 1 2017, 04:17 PM) It's a good modern superhero flick. It ticks most of the boxes. But it's definitely not perfect. The third act could've been better. 99% of a superhero origin story cannot escape the construct of monomyth cycle. You can remix the sequencing or change the context,in the end it's a hero's journey trope that you are familiar with.Maybe the sequel will free the shackle from sticking to an expected path of storytelling construct.Make no mistake I'm not eating up how the ending went. Also worth pointing out Patty Jenkins not a name you associated with action flick. She made Charlize Theron an Oscar winner and responsible for the US remake of The Killing tv show.Actually she can handle gritty and dark themes.Felt she fought tooth and nail to retain the first two act while the last act for toeing the line of doing business with a big studio.Perhaps with the success of WW she able to command some demand from the studio.

QUOTE(gaeria84 @ Jun 2 2017, 01:26 PM) It was inspired by The Road (father and son) Logan was exactly like The Last UsĀ Oooooh....apples to oranges defense.Whatever you say brah! The Road also can be inspired by Lone wolf and the cub. You do realized movies and stories are copies/iteration of one source or another.....right! QUOTE(BeastX @ Jun 7 2017, 04:46 PM) Well, Joss maybe able to tighten the loose ends... What loose end is there to tighten???The public couldn't care less about the new gods.Majority of the movie goers don't even know who is Orion or Big Barda or Mr.Miracle.Visually they are just gaudy to realize on screen and too convoluted to contain within a brief exposition scene. There are more popular characters to milk than going for the 2nd or 3rd tier characters. All it needs some justification of a world ending event...not even sure JL will feature Darkseid prominently as no major announcement who is playing him.Won't rule out they might have casted Matt Damon.

Come to think about how the CBM has been for this year...Marvel still doing the same shit like their last release.Homecoming felt just like another Spidey that I have no qualm not watching and I doubt Thor Ragnarok can be a game changer to the formula although Waititi might flip the genre a little bit. Whereas Logan and WW became the monster cultural footprint that got plenty of attention while GOTG2 zilch...nada!!!Pretty sure JL will be riding on the buzz of WW and king of the nerd finishing the movie.WW now got the female movie goers flipping over a strong female heroine that they wanted all these years.Guess Marvel people got no balls to call first dip on the lucrative market segment. Now Captain Marvel will be forever under the limelight of WW. More importantly fortune favors the bold for not being complacent to peddle the same thing over and over again. Also started to see articles contesting the validity of a shared universe when Logan and WW technically are standalone narrative.

Objectively it's just an OK movie, while some degree of improvement over the first one but not in any form or shape a masterpiece that push the genre forward. Maybe age started to catch up on me as my interest in these big budget CBM significantly deteriorates. Not enough meaningful substance for me to latch on.

QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Dec 18 2020, 05:30 PM) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I can understand the role reversal between Diana and Steve. In the first movie, Steve had to introduce the world to Diana and in this one, it is the opposite, which was kind of fun. The issue I had with Steven was, he was the guys with oall the plans in the first movie and in this.... he is practically... the vase... The the villians' motives are not well define. Barbara went from I am Diana's best friend to I hate her, I REALLY HATE HER the "trigger" being well executed. And Max Lord had all the oil in the world, and he went to the other guys for more? It is one thing to have a tagline "Life is good, but it can be better." to change it into action... again, where is the trigger? The above are the two biggest "HUH?" moments for me in the movie... My issue with this movie is all the superficial surface level narrative. Kinda going through a series of checkbox with unfulfilling payoffs. The saving grace Gal Gardot still the quintessential WW that you ignore all the plot holes because of her presence. The first movie is the charming fish out of water moment meanwhile here borderline revisiting an old cliche with role reversal. This sequel just lacks an iconic scene like the first one with no man's land assault and the human dramas less gripping for me. If I shut my brain off still can rewatch just that it's not offensive enough for me to completely shut it off like some MCU films.
