Apparently Vicky is VERY pouch protective. She gets crabby if she can see someone coming from her pouch windows. She will even attack. and her teeth can still makes your fingers bleed if she bite through the mesh window.

She is alright when she's outside though. Gonna let Vicky stays with me in bonding pouch all day today to make her feels familiar with my presence. Also will put Teddy inside the pouch as well since she's a lot calmer if Teddy's around.
*
Poor girl. She wasn't pouch train with the breeder. She is good outside, but very protective over her pouch. Yes, she is only comfortable when there is another glider around. Take your time to train her lah tongue.gif She is a sweetheart.

Added on June 8, 2008, 8:38 pmYeah, Hun, if i don't chop it to fine pieces, you know what my gliders going to do?

They will fling the pieces of whatever in their small lil hands to wherever... so that's why la..
*
Hahaha... wow, really dedicated. My gliders, I cut them into half inch cubes coz they love to take a piece and run off to some part of the cage to eat. Then when it falls, it won't go through the cage bars. So far that works for me. tongue.gif

This looks nice... sme more can manual handchopped it. By the way, from looking at this, I remembered something I wanted to ask - is KFC coleslaw and mashed potatoes, safe for gliders in small amount? For example, a teaspoon.
I've never seen my glider go to the water bottle, even after hanging there for 3 weeks now.
*
If your gliders are getting enough moisture from their food, they would rarely drink.

Anyway, no coleslaw or mashed potatoes or any human food that has been mixed, seasoned and processed till it is not natural anymore. It's ok to give normal boiled potato and raw carrots and cabbage. Coleslaw is mixed with mayonnaise, which contains oil, salt, egg, sugar, starch and preservatives. Mashed potatoes contains oil, salt, pepper... and the brown sauce could be a sauce made with onions. All this is bad for any small animal. Even cheese is bad.

QUOTE(silverwineus @ Jun 8 2008, 11:08 PM)
Just now, i got a rush of heartbeat and adrenalin because of XiuLai, my one and only dear girl glider.

Thank God now everything is ok.

This girl dashed out in lightning speed, before i realised, she was already out of my room.

I searched high and low and couldn't find her.

My MengChai could sense my perturbance and stayed close at my side.

Then suddenly i heard my dad made a remark downstairs, "Heh, how come this thing is here?"

Then i knew this girl had gone downstairs. And guess what, she was reveling there, having sweet day playing around my dangerous marine tank.

Anytime she can get drown and become the masin fishy..

I called her but instead of responding, she started her hide and seek game with me.

Of course she is always the champion in this game!

At the moment i lost sight of her, my dad suddenly had a glimpse of her gliding in a room. Finally i could get hold of this girl by means of shutting the door of the room.

Thank goodness, i don't know how i can be at rest to go oversea without her being found..

shakehead.gif silver
*
Wow, luckily she didn't jump into your marine tank. Sometimes I do get such extreme cases when Kimba decides to run out and visit my dogs. It makes my heart jump out of my mouth.

I have been noticing something amazing about Qiqi & Gadget...

Every morning at 7-8, they'll wake me up for their mealies...

After that, I'll unlock their cage without opening the door for them to free range in the room...

Qiqi & Gadget will help each other push open the door... (This I've seen them doing)

After they had enough of playtime & return to the cage to sleep, the door will be closed...

At first I thought it was TJ who closed the door but it made no sense as he would lock it...

TJ also thought it was me but I told him why would I do that without locking it?

We have yet to see them doing this....

Makes me  wub.gif  wub.gif  wub.gif them even more...

Mounting board? That is gonna soak up pee. Celotape could cause harm coz it is sticky and if they chew it, dunno what the glue would do to them.

Sad to say that the staff there are pretty unexperienced as well. I bought Judy (as seen in the picture below) from a breeder, she was 2 months old. I got her for slightly more than a week now. When I took her to P.S. the staff asked her age I told him that the glider was 2months old. He replied me saying that Judy doesn't look like a 2-month old glider. Looks more lika a 4-month old glider.

[attachmentid=492926]
*
Alot of the staff do not know the correct age of gliders because the supplier and their boss give them wrong info. Pity those joeys. We think the joeys at PS are roughly 4 weeks old or less.

crazymouse, I've bought your mixed fruit slurp from Joan few days ago. Judy seems to like it but will spit out some kind of fibrous stuff. By the way, how do I tell if the slurp has gone bad? Excuse me if this is a stupid question.
*
The fibrous stuff is the pulp. Don't worry, it is natural. As my food is homemade, the pulp is natural. Some gliders would eat everything, some would spit out the pieces that are dry. Glad your Judy likes it. Now there is GliderFRUITSICLES at Pet Shack.

Yes, it would taste sour. Smell... not so... you gotta taste it. If it has gone very bad it would smell like sour milk. Why? You didn't keep it in the freezer?

QUOTE(ReBeLLioN @ Jun 9 2008, 04:22 PM)
is it ok if i try giv my sg a whole week an apple and some vege???

will they get bored with the same fruit??

and 1 more thing... when night y sg bark, when i go to him... he stop barking... wat that mean ha??
and 1 more last thing... how we know that our glider bonded enough with us?? i hope specialist can asnwer me???
*
Barking means calling lah. It is normal if they stop when you go to them.
Please feed other type of fruits. Is not because of bored.... if you feed only apples, takda nutrition yang lain, which can lead to malnutrition later. Feed at least 3 types of fruits and veggies a day.

Bonded means they won't bite, won't struggle if you catch them, won't jump away if you hold them and not afraid of your touch.

*
If it is not frozen for a day, it's ok. The Slurp would turn bad after 4 days if you leave it in the fridge part. If freezer, it can last a month to 2 months.

QUOTE(Pennywise @ Jun 9 2008, 08:27 PM)
Okok, thanks for replying. I just forgot that human food are not for gliders. I'll try to keep it in mind now.
Why are those joeys wet anyway? They spray water on them or what?
Wowwww... how many joeys? Can tell already?
Post up a pict, can imagine the post sure is very cute. The glider main main with you.
I am considering this as well. What's the price of just having them shave their nails there?
*
The joeys are wet coz they do not know how to groom themselves, then eat apples only. And the joeys are not properly weaned and have not learned how to pee and poo properly, so they do it on each other. That is why wet. Some would get wet coz of the apple being too big for them to hold so they have to "hug" the apple.

compare may apple she wake up around 9 pm....
*

Wah, Apple and Mac hehehe. Nice names.

Each glider has their own individual routine. Some would adapt to their colony or partner's routine as well but it depends. Like for my 4 in a cage, only Kinta would wake up in the afternoon to eat a bit and drink some water then sleep. For my Keera, not in the cage lah but living in my room, her routine is different. She is awake around 1am, then she would sleep at around 3am.... then wake up again at around 5 or 6am and play around. Then she sleeps and wakes up at 11am.... then she sleeps after an hour and would sleep till 1am.

Each glider have different ways of being bonded. One way is scent marking your body by leaving trails of pee. If pee and poo at one go on you, that is just normal, not really a sign of bonding but more like using you as a toilet coz that is how they treat their favourite tree. If they scent mark you like leaving droplets of pee on you, rubbing their head and chest on you, then that means it is showing you that you are part of it's family.

Jumping back on you, not all gliders do that. Kiah is so laid back that when she is on humans, she won't really jump away. She rather crawl on to your arm or hand. If Kapi, she is super adventurous so she would jump at other things that has caught her interest. Keera is the naughty glider as she would jump on everyone and anything to explore but she would jump back to me. If they are comfortable with their surroundings, then they would rather explore than be on you. Just let it be.

It really takes time. ggMing's glider can would jump back on him is it feels insecure in a new place. My Kiah and Kapi won't really jump away if they feel insecure.

Being scared is a different thing. Normally when a glider is scared, they would either jump back on their owner or hide in their pouch. Why? Secure, well known by them and they know there is no danger if hide in pouch or on you.

If you keep a glider in the same room with a parrot, it would freak it out coz gliders do not like high pitched sounds from parrots and also the flutter of feathers. Also, if a glider manages to free range, and climbs on to the parrot's cage, then most likely the parrot would attack it. I never keep my gliders with my birds and parrots, all in separate areas of my home.

Not all youtube videos shows you the proper ways of caring and feeding gliders. If I were you, I would stop watching youtube and read more from wikipedia, sugar glider websites that are in the 1st page and also in my blog. Those are proven facts and advice from experienced breeders and researchers.

If you want to get a joey from a breeder, then there is a waiting list. Look at my sales thread to see the terms and conditions. Even Bonai also got terms and conditions.

Also, you shouldn't rush in getting. Many people I know really take their time and wait for breeders to get them healthy joeys with quality rather than getting from a supplier or unethical breeder or unethical petshop that sells poorly conditioned underage joeys.

If you are so into gliders, then best is you read this whole thread from 1st page till last. I know many other new keepers or those waiting to get a joey have done this.

My goodness.... your questions all are like from people who never research yet at all. You don't even know their natural sounds. Please please, I really really beg of you to go and do your homework on sugar gliders. They are not some play thing where you can buy one today coz cute and ignore them a few weeks later coz they do not bond with you or bite you or run away. They are totally different from pets like hamsters, need a whole lot of care and attention. Most of us even turned nocturnal a bit since we gotta play with our gliders. Are you willing to do that?

QUOTE(kelvin_faye @ Jun 10 2008, 10:56 PM)
when i go pets wonderland in mid valley or pet safari in ikano, i do really get tempted to buy the SG asap!!! but i know dat if i do that, i may end up having fun in the early days only as the SG babies or we call joeys sold there are underaged!! they din get enuf nutrition from their mommy in their early days, thus they will not last long in the long run.. meaning htey have shorter life span compared to u get from reputable breeder like crazymouse, reanne or bonai in lyn forum... biggrin.gif  thumbup.gif

what for we want a short life span one rite?? imagine u get so attached to him d, then one day u realise dat he doesnt lived as long as 10years... wanna regrets at that time?? NO for me!! vmad.gif

so hun, i am gonna wait till i am ready enuf k!!! hehe blush.gif am ready d actually, but since i am studying n in campus, it would be a trouble for me if my college staff caught me having pets in my room!! anyway, i got away with the 9 gerbils!!! haha wub.gif

so what ya think?? research or get them now??

btw, where r u staying? u work or study le?
*
Superb! You really have done your homework. Good good, looks like you are nearer to your dream of having a joey. Hahaha.... gerbils of course can get away with but glider harder coz of their various sounds at night. Later people thought you keeping puppy if the glider barks.

i thought of getting the Luxury cage.. but am also thinking wont it be too big for a joey at first..? the height also..

or shud i take small cage first.. coz later i wanna add partner to the SG after bonding.. think wanna one shot go for the Luxury Cage at petshack...

ur opinion? or i hang everything low low at first i get the suggie?? to be safe for her.. blush.gif
*
Actually, it won't be too small if you get a 8 week OOP joey. At that age, they are already independent, can explore and be adventurous. Some people make the mistake of purchasing extremely small cages coz they thought joeys not active.... more like if you have an underage joey, then of course not really active and underage joeys should not really have a cage but an incubator to keep warm.
If you wanna get the 3ft cage, then it is fine too coz sometimes you would need a spare cage if you are traveling. But it's up to you lah.

QUOTE(ekazakaria @ Jun 11 2008, 10:30 AM)

Memang is a good idea. Smaller cages are good for traveling. Gliders can get used to traveling but it takes time to adjust. I'm now boarding Kerell's joey and spe'il's joeys. All of the joeys had a first bad day. Have no appetite, kept staying in pouch, don't wanna leave their pouch and kept being around their owner's smelly shirt. This is the drawback with a change in environment and owners. That is why I told you earlier that it would be best if you and your sis bond equally with the gliders, then you won't really have this problem.

Glider poop? It's poop lah. Size? Like cicak lah. My gawd.... you don't have to ask such questions if you really like the animal.

Added on June 11, 2008, 9:22 pmIf you guys realize, Ringo's size is the same with those at Ikano. So you can imagine how young they are. Ringo's tail is fuzzing up a bit, as you can see, his size is almost the length of my handphone already.

Wah, sounds so tasty. Yesterday I fed the last of my blueberries, along with orange, apple, pear, sweetpeas, french bean and carrots.

OMG! I love this pict, especially the last one, the glider grabbing finger like "OH MOMMY, DONT LET ME GO!! DONT LET ME GOOOO!!! NOOOO!!!!" This is darn cute la. I am waiting for the day my gliders are able to do this with me.

These few days, I'm considering a new cage for my dogs so dont have much time with gliders. Come back only play with them 1 hour only and they are still crabby unless taken to my shoulders, then they will roam and quiet down.
*
HAhaha... this adults won't really do. Mostly underage joeys would do this hugging thing coz they are scared and clingy. Ringo is only 21 days old, compared to your Luna and Moka, they are older. This is why people buy and are attracted to underage joeys, they are clingy but people never realise just how bad and wrong it is to buy underage joeys.

arghhh.... im become more confused... yesterday he dun wan to me... but today wan plak main dgn me.......

Bukan confuse. Sometimes gliders got mood wan. Coz they are like children, can merajuk one day and manja the next.

QUOTE(spel'it @ Jun 12 2008, 01:27 AM)
suggies, treat them as toddlers.
they can play with u the whole day today doesnt mean that they want to play again tomorrow.
but it doesnt mean that they dun like u.
they just want to play with sumthing else.
or want to explore more.
so its nothing to worry about.

Added on June 12, 2008, 1:58 amKP,

Me and KC, we had this special bond. And U shud see the time i let them go off for boarding. Hehehe... Well, she knows that i'd do anything for her. With CK, i still have sum work to do. He's getting there, but not as quite.

He's acting like a hurting teenager. I think it started after i let him go with my bf. Becoz, we had this strong bond b4. Ours was even stronger than between me n KC at that time. He was the trusting one. Nowadays, he act like he cudnt care less. But i know he does. Can see it when they'd have their free roam, he'll keep his distance at first but wud keep on coming to me, just for a nibble or two. To make sure that im still there.

They miss you so much. CK is not so shy, would always greet me every night when I feed the night meal. KC would always be near your shirt. I'm sure when you come back, they will be happy like crazy.

QUOTE(Time-Interval @ Jun 12 2008, 08:50 AM)
do we really need a tent to play with the sugar glider? cant we just play with them in a room with closed door and windows? anyone?
*
Not necessary. It is more for adults and also for joeys that have not trusted their owners yet. It is actually a perfect tool for bonding lah but if you have a glider proof room, then it is as good too. I use my room to do bonding.

QUOTE(mamata @ Jun 12 2008, 10:53 AM)
