Sure, I'll check. I think can go liao coz it is older than Baby Ringo.

but when he don wan to me he poo alot... if hard poo nvm... but like water poo...

Watery poo? What have you been feeding? The poo got soft like tooth paste or is watery and like jelly?

QUOTE(aurion @ Jun 12 2008, 05:38 PM)
Hi all, I need to seek for some humble advice. Judy doesn't seem to like to get into her bonding pouch these few days and sometimes refuses to do so. Even if she does, she will crab a fair bit. I have to apply some slight pressure on the pouch before she keeps quiet. Any advice on how to get her in the pouch with less crabbing or none? Thanks.
*
Well, looks like she doesn't like her bonding pouch much. What you can do is do pouch feeding. When you put Judy in, feed her with some of her favourite food. I normally feed mealworms when my gliders are in my pouch. This is a training way.

Hopefully it works for you. Just needs some time. Some gliders are pouch protective, or hate their pouches. So it depends. Like my Keera, she will refuse to go into her bonding pouch when we are at home. Coz she feels comfortable and wants to explore. But once we go out the environment changes, and she would go into her bonding pouch willingly as it is her safe sanctuary.

QUOTE(emino @ Jun 12 2008, 08:46 PM)
I'm trying this with Vicky too. The problem is, she is too protective that she would attack before she even noticed the worms...  sweat.gif

Right now I hold her from outside the pouch while using the other hand to offer food to avoid she launching to bite me before she sees the worms. Works so far. She crabs, see the worm, grab the worm and eat while being a little crabby. It was a funny sound actually, crabbing while eating. haha.
*
Hahaah... sorry lah for passing you Vicky so fast. I know you couldn't wait to get her. If not I would have trained her for a week with pouch. She was never in a bonding pouch before she went to you, so that is why pouch protective coz when she was with her breeder, she and the parents always have 1 pouch, which is the sleeping pouch.

But crab while makan memang cute. Now I train Keera as well, she is not so pouch protective anymore. It really takes time.

Teddy is like one of my oddest joeys coz he has never crabbed before when he was under Reanne and my care. Not even hiss. Always calm and sweet. Actually, if you don't want, I would have kept him.

Just want to clarify something... When you guys say, sugar apple; means custard apple is it?
*
Sugar apple and custard apple is the same. Some people use different names.
It's like Jambu Air, people call them water apple or rose apple.

QUOTE(aurion @ Jun 13 2008, 02:54 AM)
I think they are referring to custard apples too. By the way I just found out something about Judy. I use peacock feather to play with her, she acts like a cat wanting to catch the feather using her hands.
*
Get string too..... Looks like you got a very playful glider. Is good to make them play with such things, it gives them some exercise.

QUOTE(ReBeLLioN @ Jun 13 2008, 03:57 AM)

Then it is normal. If watery like yogurt then it means something wrong.

GUY!!!! I wanna cryyyyyyyyyyy......

Don't worry, my suggies are all fine. Just that the ones at PS are NOT!!! Damn it! 2 super duper underage, smaller than Ringo are dying. They shiver so badly, are constantly wet from the soggy wet apples. The poor things can't even chew and are just licking moisture. They are thin, weak and so shaky.
Another tank has like 10 or more joeys, just slightly older. All they have are tissue paper to hide and sleep in and soggy wet apples. I actually stood at the counter, saying slightly louder to Juztiny that "They are gonna die" but the workers just ignore. Stupid.....

QUOTE(aurion @ Jun 13 2008, 01:40 PM)
Hai.. going to miss Judy for a week as I'm sending her off to boarding later. Have to fly back to East Malaysia tomorrow. Just don't feel good sending her off for boarding. sad.gif
*
Wah, where you send for boarding? Hopefully not a vet or pet shop that has no knowledge on gliders...

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Jun 13 2008, 02:20 PM)
Food bowl middle ground to lower ground is okay depending on the height of your cage.

I put mine on the middle ground as my cage is too tall and the lower ground is too low.

Most of the time suggies like to eat up high. They'll grab a piece and got up somewhere to eat or hang upside down wink.gif

smile.gif
KP
*
I was reading, gliders don't enjoy eating on the floor of the cage. The rather eat high up coz it is instinctive and they would feel safer and have better appetites. But Kimba is like cacat. He would take whatever fruit I give him and throw it to the cage floor to eat.

QUOTE(kelvin_faye @ Jun 13 2008, 05:00 PM)
Congrats Eka, u are now one step closer to your SGs... hehe wub.gif

So, what else u bought from petshack?? I wanna budget la... Can give me a rough idea?? Thanks ya... blush.gif
*
Budget? I would leave aside Rm700... you roughly count, cage already RM290 if big cage, then bowls RM8.80, bottle also Rm8.80, pouches and cage stuff, I forgot the price but around Rm100 like that or less.... depending on how many bonding pouch you buy. Normally I would advice on 2. Toys, bedding (if you use) plus food.... another RM50 loh.... then what more? Well, up to you.

Come on guys, no more arguments ok? I'm kinda fed up. Newbies can always use the search button to look for topics that have been discussed. Plain and simple. If you need more info, just leave a comment in my blog and I will do an article.

Gadget got that curious look.

Gizmo got that comfy look.

Cute pictures.

Me ah... bad day. Why? Coz Keera destroyed my printer! She crawled into my printer's paper opening, when inside and dunno what the heck she pulled out and stuff in. I open my printer to find that she made a so called bed of tissue paper and pulled out some kinda sponge out from the printer. Sheesh....

You can print him the 1st page. Corn.... he cannot see now mah. Wait till the gliders are about a year. Mealworms are high in phosphorus but not as high as corn..... his gliders would soon have weak bones and the joeys they produce will have a possibility of being weak with brittle bones. Poor souls.

Corn and banana, we can feed like once in 2 weeks. I do give corn but that's like when I only have corn at home. Once a month hahahah. Banana I have it at home like every week coz my parents love to eat banana, but I rarely give . When we feed foods that are high in phosphorus, it is good to balance it out with high calcium food. So if you feed corn, then feed some fruit like papaya or jambu air or sugar apple.

Well, good that Moka and Luna improved, but then your way of bonding is just a bit slow only coz you can't have them in the bonding pouch for the day. So spend more time with them lah. Get home, straight carry around bonding pouch. Play with them in their tent. Hand feed.... it will take you more time to bond but it is worth it coz they are a pet for 10 years.

QUOTE(Pennywise @ Jun 15 2008, 02:08 AM)
Yea, the whole bonding session is OK. I already know I will not be able to invest so much time like others do but I try. I played with them till 2am just now. Just got upstairs.

I had them climb on my shoulders and then I went and sit down, read newspaper on the dining table. They went on an adventure, first around me and then they got off me and to the dining chair. Moka went to the dining table and run across the tissue box, bread box, tupperware, etc. She nearly run behind the fridge so I had to stop her. She came back quite dusty but at least she does know how to come back. Whenever she run off elsewhere, I dont have to grab her with my hand. I just kneel down and pull my shirt a bit, she'll jump right back up and run all the way to the shoulders.

When I sit back down, she will run back down and jump off me again and go adventure. Luna is less adventurous but she got off me a few times. She jumped towards the ironing board and run around it. Then, I tickle Luna with a feather, she crabbed a first and later like wanna grab the feather, trying hard to reach out and etc.

I am glad that they know how to come back. I sit down and read newspaper with the fan turned off. Sweat a lot and I left my t-shirt in the cage tonight.

I like how they jump right back at us and run from our pants up and up to the shirt and all the way to the shoulders.

One question: When you guys mentioned "inside our shirt" means on bare skin is it? Or inside wear another shirt? One accident happened was when Moka jumped back and caught my shorts, she ran upwards and INSIDE my shirt. My God!! That tingling experience of her sharp nails all over me makes me jump and shake like someone in trance. Super ticklish and sharp pointy nails pricking the skin all over. My sister just laughed like mad.

Me thinks me need nail O' matic soon.
Oh I see... only open at 2:30pm eh? Do they still have joeys there? By the way, do you study in Cyberjaya? Or working there?
Shakeera? On a music audition is it? Arent those like percusion or something? You should play it softly while she's at it, wonder what's the reaction like...
*
Hahaha.... if they run back to you, means you are almost there with the bonding. They see you as their safe haven. Well, you still need to improve on their crabbing la but you are almost there. Good progress loh.

Yah, their nails are very sharp, so you would need to trim their nails. Get Nail-O-Matic, then no need worry about trimming nails.

Just now I handled him, so blur face. When I call him "Ringo" he crab, I call him "Bubba" he also crab. Then I make sneezing noise, he also grab. If I purr like a cat, he also crab. LOL.... he needs to get used to different noises. Now active already. Exploring the cage.

Yups, males tend to be larger than females. I see that often. Some females grow larger, this could be due to the different Petaurus breviceps subspecies. I do have a male which is the same size with the female, and I have one which is larger than his mate.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a glider stays at 1 place without moving, some of us call it stoning. What does it mean? Well, when an animal stays in 1 place without moving, just stay like a statue, it means stoning. It's like day dreaming a bit, in a daze. Nothing to worry about.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What's my gliders' daily diet? Everyday is something different.

Each morning I give mealworms. They love eating at night so I give more food at night. Actually I have posted this a few times already lah, can search mah. I also posted this in my blog on diets. Just give variety of fruits. There is no need to copy what I feed today and what I feed tomorrow. LOL, man, this is funny.

Actually I had wanted to know as well. I'm still feeding my gliders, 2 - 3 teaspoon of slurp in the morning, various fruits + mealworms in the evening. Once a week will be fruits + 1 dog kibble each. Slurp in the morning has not change and probably never change - same breakfast every time. I hope there's nothing wrong in doing so.
*
Nopes, nothing wrong with that. You can give the dog kibble everyday but make sure only 1.

Anyway, looking at adpost.... sad case to see people selling joeys at such an age.... super duper underage, like just OOP or open eyes but say 2 months old. Go and look.... pity those joeys.

He chew your finger to main main a bit lah. Some of them show affection that way.

Each animal is special. Glider got different personality and ways to care. Ferret is more outgoing and cat-like. Hedgehog is more solitary and prefer to have short handlings and play time. So it depends on you actually, see which pet suits you. Not really the point of which is the best to bela.

Eyh! really? because i want to buy joeys from this one guy that i found on LYN too the nick is Nonono
i called and talk to him on the phone last night. he selling to me joeys that 3-4 weeks old. he said he might teach how to nursing the joeys, do u think i can believe him? he said too that its not a problem because the younger the suggies, the suggies might get to know u well
Bahah! okeh. thank you bro.
*
Wahhhhh....3 to 4 weeks? CRAZYYYYY!!!!! Please do not fall for price. This is such an irresponsible seller. DO NOT GET FROM HIM or anyone who says he will teach you how to nurse.

Any joey that doesn't get the milk and care from the mom will:

- have health problems when older
- will not grow properly, some may become stunted while some may be late bloomers
- there are no milk suitable for gliders sold in Malaysia. I have 1 pack of Wombaroo joey milk but that is my personal stash for emergencies. This milk cannot be imported by shipment, so no one would be able to get it unless they have someone buy and bring it back from Aussie.
- There is a chance of a shorter lifespan
- 50% of joeys that are bought underage dies

This is from personal findings. I get people emailing me and calling me bout their problems. Joeys die in 1 month, 2 days, 1 week.... why???? Same reason.... UNDERAGE. All either get from sellers like that guy or from suppliers or from Ikano.....

When you buy a pet, you shouldn't go for the cheapest. Cheap means there would be a problem. If you buy a joey for RM250 but it dies.... rugi Rm250 rite? If you buy RM300 but it grows healthy and lives long, worth it rite?

About young being closer to bond..... 8 weeks out of pouch is considered the best age and young. Anything younger is coz they are vulnerable, and are babies. Of course all babies look cute, have no sense of danger and are sticky to people coz they are afraid. Don't jump into the same group of people say their glider just died.

QUOTE(hazzy @ Jun 18 2008, 06:10 PM)
alaaaaaaaaa really?  sad.gif  but he is selling really cheap. like RM250 only each. do u know where else can i get a cheap suggies, because 1 of my friend from indon, he said suggies there will cost you RM10  drool.gif
*
RM10.... is after you convert. If you do not convert, the money value is the same..... and RM10 is the WILD ones. Majority of my friends are indonesians.... and they have told me. Don't believe can ask Muchan, she is indonesian and she has seen the difference between our gliders and the ones sold in Indonesia.

It's like this. I will explain once again.

You shouldn't get 3-4 weeks old joeys. The proper age is 3-4 months or we call it 2 mths OOP.

Why 4 months?

The first two months, they are IN the pouch.

The next two months, they MUST stay with their parents, so their parents will take PROPER care of them and nurse them, not you.

Added on June 18, 2008, 6:43 pmGood home breeder:

1) bonai

2) crazymouse_yyh

*ala..my list limited je*
*
Yups, The proper age is actually 4 months old since born. But then we normally go with In Pouch and Out Of Pouch age. 2 months IP, 2 months OOP. Many people make this mistake, never understanding the right age. I pity the people who have bought from unethical sellers. They go through bad experience..... dead joeys.... some die in 1 week, some die in 1 day.... some die after 1 month.... is a pity coz all this won't come about if they had bought a right age joey from the proper breeder.

One thing about home breeders. ALOT do not understand our concept.

WE LOVE OUR GLIDERS. We never treat them as breeding machines. We let our gliders have 2 litters of joeys a year.... each time is either 1 joey or 2 joeys.... so in a year we can only have 2 to 4 joeys from 1 pair of gliders. Sometimes if the female is very fertile, it can be 3 litters. Suppliers, commercial breeders breed their gliders with small cages, coconut hides, apples and dogfood to eat. They snatch the joeys before 2 months OOP to make the females breed faster, making them breed 4 to 5 times a year. This kills the female slowly. To a commercial breeder, 1 loss is ok if he gains 8 joeys in a year from 1 female.... to them is money money money, sales sales sales.

Home breeders have limited breeding pairs. We can only have a few joeys for sale in a year or in a span of few months. That is why we have a waiting list. If you are keen to get from a good breeder, you need to have the patience to wait. Many people have waited and they are thankful to have gotten healthy joeys than sickly joeys that die in a few moments. Rm300 to Rm350 is really worth it as you get alot of after service stuff, guaranteed a healthy joey and we have a big pool of knowledge to share. Sometimes we breeders get annoyed easily but bare with us. We have gotten so many types of PMs and funny funny questions that we are tired of repeating.

Do your research 1st. Never get on impulse because cheap, because cute, because breeder or seller is your friend and offer you big discount or free..... never never make a mistake with a glider.

Well, there is a possibility that the glider may get attach to you and forget your brother more. It depends.... I have experience with gliders boarding under me for a month, when return to their owners, they forget their owners.... so need to do bonding again. What you should do is get some of your brother's clothes and hang it near the cage or on the cage. That is why now I ask all who put their gliders for boarding at my home to make sure they bring along a smelly shirt.

Why early next month? Do planning..... and like I said before, joeys do not pop out like hamsters. The joeys from me that are ready in July are all fully booked coz like I said, people have patience, they have waited for the joeys long before you.

haha.. sure money matters....

just make sure you're really prepared before actually bringing one back home..
stuffs such as cage, pouches and other accessories should be prepared earlier..
i would suggest to get it from Pet Shack (the glider friendly shop!) as they have all gliders stuffs you ever want..
and they could advise you on accessories or toys for gliders..

meanwhile, get to know gliders owner here and try to get in touch with any of them.. try to handle their glider(s) before actually considering to buy... the passion will strike you straight away then only you know gliders are the perfect pet for you!  rclxm9.gif

Yah, many have never experience handling a glider or even seen how a glider poo and pee on a person. I got a call from a guy before.... he said he wanted a glider coz it is manja.... but he doesn't know that it cannot be toilet trained, nor does he know that a glider has really sharp claws that can cause red scratches.... he thought glider can keep like hamster.....

Yups. That was Kiah. The hyper one on Jamien was Kapi. Kapi has a firmer grip, so the claws feel much stronger than Kiah. Heheheh.... both cute rite? Got nice soft fur.... and both also stick to me.

Little Bubba has not tried solid food yet. But he easily misses his mom. You heard him bark and cry for his momma.

That is SO TRUE! Many owners give up their gliders after a year.... reasons being no time lah, parents don't like, landlord do not allow pets, hate the smell, have no more commitment, got too much assignments..... I have heard alot of reasons.... sometimes I don't blame them if it is for personal reasons but for reasons like no time or commitment anymore... sigh.... sad.... gliders bond to people and they get depressed if their owners dump them to someone.

Some lagi keng.... let go into the wild. Why? Say it is natural wor..... Gliders are not native animals, therefore they cannot survive for long in the wild and normally die from a predator or starvation or natural elements.

Now I have 9 gliders... my commitment is bigger.... My parents think I'm crazy.... and they are not cheap to keep.... but i love all of them. I sleep less now because of them. sweat.gif wub.gif

Added on June 18, 2008, 9:15 pmLOL.... Kiah and Kapi smell like Kimba....

Keera no smell coz she got no male with her, so Keera smells like me a bit LOL....

Bubba smells like his dad, very strong male musk. Summore Bubba started to musk a bit hahahah.... which is normal coz joeys do musk but it is not very strong as the smell lessens in a few minutes.

Mealworms and crickets tend to get contaminated from the shops.... is not bacterial or anything... more like eating bad food... so is good that they died. The ones that are alive would need to gutload to get rid of the bad stuff and in with the good stuff. That is why we advice people to gutload for 48 hours before feeding to your gliders. This way you get rid of anything bad from their systems.
