nola, no free lunch in this world, please read agian & again before shouting "wahhh the new 3G iPhone only USD199, baru RM 6XX nia, i wan i wan"
*
Thats why Apple put the "Starting at" before USD199 meaning its not a fixed price la, and which apple products doesn't come with Terms & Condtions applied anyway. rolleyes.gif

If Apple US require you to activate on-the-spot, i presume the same practice will be implemented elsewhere too. Now there is really no way to get away with the 2-year contract with the telco without getting fined/penalised/charged in one way or another.

I don't know what are the implications of asking a friend to sign-up and activate the phone and subsequently not paying the monthly bill. I don't think we could subscribe to the plan ourselves too without having a permanent address in the country. If that's the case, we can't be driving down to Singapore, register with their telco and drive home with a spanking new 3G iPhone.

Having said that, i feel the current gen iPhone still has its resell value...at least for now.

Sg telco need your work permit (S pass and E permit no need to pay any deposit, the rest need to pay $200) to let you to sign up the plan.
my plan: $28 per month, you need to pay $500 for plan cancellation.
if you run away without paying the bill, then you most likely will be sued to the court and banned from entering to SG. sweat.gif

one of sg telco, Singtel would be the first to bring in the iphone in SG.
i guess they only will sell it together with new plan (this should be under the contract agreement with Apple).

same as uk, it is not up to you to have contract with the telco. you are subjected for credit check. and unless you have secured payment method monthly, they usually refuse to have contract with you.

Starting at USD 199 with T&C applies, same with the so called maximum price USD299 with T&C applies.

I think we must be realistic here. Apple products had never been cheap and they will never be. Although it's mentioned that it's $199, but you have to take into account that it's only valid for a 2 years contract with the telco and if you somehow "forgot" to register within 30 days, you'll be penalised. And since Steve mentioned that the price stays put in all countries with iPhone in July, the same rule will apply too.

To me, although Apple hopes as much as pushing the sales to its consumers, it won't do so by selling its products at such cheap prices as it still want to remain exclusive in the market (remember there's still the iPod Touch market to care for). Apple was never that stupid and will never be. Let's hope that there's a loophole of which non-specific-telco registered users can use it too.

Cheers

agree, no telco with apple's contract means no iphone in malaysia.

i expect GBP100 (hopefully way lower tongue.gif) for the phone with the typical gbp 35 per month for 18 month with o2 uk.

though gbp 35 = rm250 per month, but gbp 35 is a typical tariff in uk.

no la..
its cheap and so low cause subsidized by the telcos..
i dun think the people running telcos here willing to pay so much up front..
although pretty sure they can make quite a profit..

even third world countries like botswana getting it... just think about it la.. i think the managers here too stingy.. all wanna keep profits in their pocket..

who wanna do letter to maxis ? we all sign.. haha.. can get the whole nation.. imagine, 3g iphone for around RM1050 for 16GB model.. damn good shit...

Added on June 10, 2008, 2:52 pmguess now we just have to wait till someone brings it in.. dunno when will that be but we can only hope for it...

I don't think the new phone is worth it. You'll have to sign a contract and the new features aren't there to woo me over.

3G is okay, but come on, you have wi-fi built in the 1-gen iphones already. It also has a PLASTIC enclosure, and not a metallic enclosure like the previous iphone.

The gps isn't even a real gps, its ASSISTED-GPS (whatever that means).

I'm only looking forward to the new firmware for all the new apps that will be available for the iphone.

The 1-gen phones will sky rocket now because theres NOWAY to get an iphone without signing a contract.
