Hamsters with wet tail are generally lethargic with a loss of appetite and generally stop grooming. They have a very fluid diarrhea, and develop a wet, soiled and matted area around the anus and tail. The diarrhea causes them to become dehydrated, so their eyes may appear dull and sunken. They may sit "hunched up" and be irritable because of the abdominal discomfort. In serious cases, blood may be seen in the diarrhea or around the anus, and/or the rectum may protrude out of the anus because of the constant straining.

if it doesnt fit the above symptom, maybe it's just pee..

when they have their tail wet,
they become less active.
so i have to take out the wheel so that they wont pee in it and get themselves dirty and wet~~

sleeping in the bathing sand is not abnormal.. some hamsters just don't know how to use the bathing sand.. do they become less active ONLY when their tails are wet? or r they inactive all the time?

Added on May 4, 2008, 4:41 pmdun feed ur hammies too much fresh foods..

bye.gif bye.gif bye.gif Feel sorry for the poor hamster which going to be put with the G.P together in the same cage. I really don't understand whether the person who do this is having common sense. Just like keeping a chicken and a doggie together in the same cage... Maybe this person wanna kill the animal purposely or dunno any basic thing about the pet he going to have or he is that poor to afford another cage. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

And who is the smart person on earth tell him hamster and G.P is vegetarian??? doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif If he consider chicken fish and worms is not meat and all are veges... Then hamsters and G.P are vegetarians... Wonder what people is thinking in their mind now... shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

I've got a question,

Why do the fur of some Roborovski hamsters look wet? Is it a disease or some sorta complication? I've noticed this condition in the pair of Robos that I've kept and also many at pet shops I've visited.

sad.gif tanling, you cannot do it this way. First consideration is size. Don't you think a big guinea pig and a small hamster will cause problems staying in the same cage? The hamster may be stomped to death. And it's very stressing for both animals mar. In the natural world in the wild, we won't find 2 different kinds of rodent living together.

Secondly is their diet. Hamster's food differs from guinea pig's needs. Hamster's food got seeds. Guinea pigs cannot eat seeds. Not to mention, GP needs vitamin c enhanced food. They don even eat the same stuff. The GP pellet is also bigger than the hamster's.

sweat.gif Some more how to fit hamster's play things into the cage. The GP will just go around knocking it over.

So you should never put 2 of these species together, ok?

@liette: Ah, I think it is the robos perspiring? Or maybe their body not so clean? smile.gif This problem is eliminated when I put a permanent sand bath area for my robos. Try it?
