I've got a question,

Why do the fur of some Roborovski hamsters look wet? Is it a disease or some sorta complication? I've noticed this condition in the pair of Robos that I've kept and also many at pet shops I've visited.

bye.gif  bye.gif  bye.gif Feel sorry for the poor hamster which going to be put with the G.P together in the same cage. I really don't understand whether the person who do this is having common sense. Just like keeping a chicken and a doggie together in the same cage... Maybe this person wanna kill the animal purposely or dunno any basic thing about the pet he going to have or he is that poor to afford another cage.  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

And who is the smart person on earth tell him hamster and G.P is vegetarian???  doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif  doh.gif If he consider chicken fish and worms is not meat and all are veges... Then hamsters and G.P are vegetarians... Wonder what people is thinking in their mind now... shocking.gif  shocking.gif  shocking.gif

Wet tail disease seems to be very common for hamsters. Just bring ur hammies to see vet for a chance on curing it.

If u bring to see vet also not much hope i think. He/she will just only tell u that ur hamster is dirty. That's all he/she comment on. "Maybe" he/she will provide some alternative.

How do know there is not much hope even if you bring to the vet? What do you mean the vet will tell you that the hamster is "dirty"? What are the "some alternatives"? Please elaborate further...

I can tell you that if you managed to discover the wet tail early and bring the hamster to the vet then there is chance of the hamster surviving from wet tail. The vet will give something for the dehydration from the diarrhaea (wet tail).

It is common because some hamster(s) cannot cope with the stress of moving from the pet shop to their new home, environment, etc...

I can tell you from mine and sangels' experiences that bringing hamsters to the vet is expensive. Minimum consultation fees is about RM20-25. No inclusive of the treatment and medications.

Even putting a hamster to sleep is expensive if there is no hope of curing the hamster. It can go up to RM100+.

Hamsters will be less active or not active when they are unwell from something. Even humans have the same symptoms.

If the hamsters don't know how to clean you clean them yourself. You can use a clean damp soft cloth and wipe them gently. The swollen butt could be infection due to irritation of some sorts to the area. The vet would prescribe some antibiotics to subdue the infections.

sweat.gif sweat.gif I'm not an expert, just tell base on my experiences, there's lots of sifus here instead. I have no problem with this situation as all my hamsters are toilet trained. Initially some like to pee in the wheel but now no more tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif They will pee in the bowl with toilet sand we gave them. We just need to wash the bowl and change the toilet sand once a week. Now only one particular hamster will pee in the wheel once a while but it doesn't make them wet, wheel have to wash once a week to assure cleaniness. smile.gif
