to me..the untap ability seems kinda underwhelming.. besides the occasional "oh shit i forgot" factor yeah in my first session day1 i had a massive pool of r/g powerhouses.. TWO of the 2/3 goblin duo, a javelin and burn trail, deus, runes of deus, giantbaiting (takes out a chunk of opponent's life), the 3cc global burn, and elemental mastery. also minor black splash for tyrannize and cinderbones..most memorable matches were the one with 15 1/1 tokens, and the one where i beat uzair with 1 life.

actualli the untap ability is superb but the funny thing is most ppl playing it still dont understand how 2 abuse it haha.

yeah, coz it's still new mostly..it's only useful in terms of creating combat tricks. order of whiteclay+goldenglow moth is freaking annoying !

btw the untap ability is wicked...
jz not many ppl notice it...
i would have lost more games if my opponents knew to abuse this ability

For what it's worth, I beg to differ.

This was my thinking process.

I basically lost the first round (after bye, it's Round 2) I played in session 1, because I didn't realise that the particular ability only activated as an "untap", rather than a "tap".

So I thought: G*dd*mn it, this card s*cks. You mean I got to attack before I can use it?

But what happenned was this...

(and this only applies so far to cards that fly, with an untap ability).

(1) If he has no flying blocker, I easily fly across, and untap on his upkeep / just before declaration of attackers phase to do some nifty removal of attackers (if your creature is fat enough, I guess you can make a surprise blocker).

(2) If he has a flying blocker,
(a) He chooses not to attack, because he doesn't want the untap ability to come into effect. In which case, I have "removed" an attacker.
(b) He chooses to attack, in which case, during my turn, I can attack, and then then during his next turn, I can keep tapping down his flying creature and keep attacking (same as (1)).

Now, this goes one step better, if you have a Tap ability to go onto an Untap creature. Like the Power of Fire or whatever. Ping, do damage, Untap, do something else, Ping, do damage, Untap, do something else.

Or even Presence of Gond.

So in my opinion, Untap ability, combined with Tap ability, means lovely combos

But that's just my opinion, for what it's worth. I am certainly going to try to draft one / two of these combos next time. I didn't get a chance to have this type of deck because my sealed pools didn't permit it, but in draft, I think it's doable.

just in, May's FNM card will be Pendelhaven.
