Sharks With Lasers

Unless there are only a handful of teams, which i doubt will be a handful.

For a group elimination format to take place like football matches, its gonna take a lot of dedicated players over several weeks. Dedicated players are extemely few. Even for DotA leagues like the TBun league has many walkovers. Are you going to be able to put in all the effort? Are your teammates capable of it as well?

In earlier CS tournaments, you only play 24 points. And the game finishes very quickly. VERY quickly. Here, if you excel in either TDM or S&D.... you might stand a better chance. This is already by far the best method. I'm sure you won't want just and S&D tourney right?

You're welcome but your support to the tournament is more important than my effort!

So Lewi4, any ideas thus far?

P.S. As for the tourney, I think maybe the guys were thinking about a loser's bracket (So as to get another chance). Round robin is league styled and will take a very long time.

Hi evilme, I definitely did factor that in. It's not about being selfish, and I'm not accusing the organizer of anything either.

I once almost opened a cybercafe and I've done the P&L and ROI plans for it. If anything, its in any cybercafe's best interest to organize tournaments, EVEN if they don't generate revenue from the entry fees.

Reason being, not 100% of a cafe's PCs are occupied over the weekend mornings and afternoons. Promoting the outlet through a tournament, a popular game, and generating hype + not to mention the countless practice sessions leading to it more than makes up for the slight loss in revenue on that day itself.

Just look at how Air Asia has capitalized on this similar business concept. Empty cybercafe seats ain't gonna net you anything to begin with - the PCs are still turned on, overheads are still running. Heck, if it was up to me to run a cafe, I'd offer limited free seats during nonpeak hours just to fill the cafe up. So don't just think in the $ sense.

Discouraging prospective gamers in the first clan based COD4 tournament in Malaysia will have bad repercussions for the future of COD4 in cybercafes that play them a lot like Tbun later on. Hence we are trying to be constructive here, and try to see if there is a win win scenario instead of accusing each other of whining (which we arent). I've got nothing to gain from this since I'm not even joining to start with.

It's true a league based system will definitely take too long. The tournament should still proceed elimination style, but allowing some sort of a loser based 2nd round may help.. a separate knockout tree for teams that were knocked out of the 1st round main tourney.

lewi : yeah, that's the DREAM team I was referring too.. I heard they were from KL actually, dropping by the cafe to see the COD4 scene here. They were impressed at the number of COD4 players here (they were in a 30 player TDM).

holyboy : yup, everything's cool hehe - just that slacking on COD4 recently hehe..

Your Pryde of the Bravo clan right? TBH, thats the name i used at FTZ SJ too, purely not copied though, and for it to be so exactly the same.
But i switched names considering you seem to be the earlier user of it. I heard someone telling i was a copy when i played at FTZ, so i went searching in this forum and poof, found out you had the exact same name and came clan name thought out as i did.

but it all boils down to how the concept is marketed to customers at the end of the day i guess..

The problem is getting people to understand how the prices work which isn't a standard rate of RM 2 per hour of something. Working on the formula itself is easy. What you could possibly do is have a electronic signboard behind the counter which tells the 'current' price based on the percentage of PCs used at any given time lar.
