Wat do u mean no bandwidth capping?? Of course there is!

After 3gb usage.. they cap your bandwidth to about 0.8mbps download, and 0.6 upload - KL area avg speed.

Unless there is an unlimited dl cap bbplan with maxis?

FYI, 0.8mbps for DL is already consider the best effort speed. i can show u numerous times which i took ss of speedtest with 0.06mbps for both DL/UL. (equiv. to 56kbps speed) consider yrself lucky if u think 0.8mbps is capped speed. some of us do get worse.

and for a fact that they capped speed at such ridiculous low number is almost unlawful, since they are marketing a broadband service. any cap should still be within broadband acceptance. thats y affected users are calling Maxis as cheater, because we are cheated of the service called broadband. paying full price but connected almost 80% of the time at narrowband speed once you exceed the FUP quota.

not only maxis broadband but celcom also the same. Digi on the other hand will charge you for the extra usage.

for simpler method......probability working 38% and im using E220 modem...

open Firefox and set you page to speedtest.net....
connect and refresh your page....if you loading page below 150Kbps......disconnect and connect because previous are not the good ip and maybe more than 8 user use that ip........

repeat that step until u reload speed more that 200 kbps...

takes time more than 20 min.......... tongue.gif smile.gif be patient while repeat step.. laugh.gif

Now it's free... your p2p connections will be throttled to a lower speed.

Hi guys, I was wondering if I can use maxis wireless broadband on 20th floor in an apartment. Is there high chance that I will not be able to get a stable service on such height? I'll be lending it from my cousin soon to have it tested anyway. I was so delighted after testing out the speed of maxis broadband. It's the fastest i've seen, at least much much faster than the **** streamyx i have been subscribing. imagine something streamyx takes 2 minute to complete, maxis just takes 2-3 sec to complete (in a flash).

Another thing i want to know is there bandwidth limit? I heard it is 3gb per month but my cousin told me it is 3gb limitation per day. IS it true?
I live 500m away from my cousin's house, if not affected by altitude, I think the speed will be stable (fastest 279kb/s)

Finally subscribed, it works fantastically well. 1000x much faster than streamyx :0

Maybe I'll find it out sooner or later smile.gif.But I'm interested to know, if I exceed 3gb , how slow will it be? Will it be slower than streamyx 1mbps ?

I'm now refraining from heavy downloading smile.gif. If download , I will use streamyx, if playing games, I will use maxis. Gonna terminate streamyx very soon since it is very slow in my area.

Hi,

I just started to use Maxis Broadband. Here is my speed (slower than Streamyx mad.gif ). Is this normal? And, how come my downloads (both from either Firefox or Internet Download Manager) starts with ideal speed ~ 120-150 kbps and suddenly drops to 1-2 kbps. (For sure its not throttle as i just started to use).

Info: I am at HSDPA area (Tmn Universiti Indah, Serdang)

Wrong choice. both download and playing games are not Maxis BB strong point. Reason, for gaming, u need low latency. 3G broadband (or any wireless broadband for that matter) have higher than yr typical adsl (streamyx), between 100~300ms. Adsl latency typically is lower and therefore, less lag or the usual term for online gamers is delay. If u play latency sensitive games like CS:Source or WC3, you'll understand latency importance perfectly. So, i cant see yr reason to use Maxis for gaming.

For download, assuming u are running BT (i dunno xunlei, since i am half chinese retarded), Maxis blocked most trackers at all time, except from 1am until 6am (not sure, usually sleep and let it run on its own). SOO...what blocked tracker means is that, unless the torrent file u are downloading allows DHT or public tracker (most sub-bers block this, example dattebayo), yr download probably wont move at all until 1am. But if the torrent allows public tracker and DHT, then no problem. my maxis experiance has seen stable speed faster than typical streamyx. 50+kbps with only few seeders, and most of the time exceed 100 when private trackers are unblocked at 1am.

conclusion, i think u r trying maxis for the wrong reasons. if i could use streamyx back, for your two same reason i will use back streamyx. (but unfortunately i cant becoz phone line KO-ed).

fyi, the capped speed is 0.06 mbps, that is equivalent to our old 56kb modem. the only way to bypass this has alraedy been shared by other ppl, but it is a tedious task of try and error. what i can say is, already been there, done that. its not worth my time so i rather make a long complaint to waive the termination fee.

usnig other ISP now, which also have a long list of haters, but at least for me its the closest competitor to streamyx right now. Maxis would be among the best if they did not enforce 3GB as their FUP, becoz at full capacity, the stable speed is best i have used so far, at least at consumer level.

Thanks for your opinion.
I also noticed that the latency is high for gaming. Although the downloading speed is high, the game still lags at times. one of the reason that I want to swtich isp is that Streamyx in my area is awefully slow. I could only experience smooth gaming and downloading at midnight. Normal browsing is also slow. (only google is fast).

I was thinking of dropping maxis broadband since i know im going to be capped sooner or later. Today is my 2nd day of using it and i have reached 0.67GB already. Normal browsing and downloading ( 2 files , each abt 60mb)... the rest is streaming at youtube.

Would you suggest that I try to download heavily until 3GB and see if there is capping before I return it to them? If no capping occurs, like others (areas which have little maxis users (my area most ppl are using streamyx, not sure about maxis though), I think i would continue subscribing to it.

Would you mind sharing the isp you are using currently?

well, u can try to reach 3GB in the trial period, but chances are they wont cap you so soon yet. mine happened on the 3rd month. 1st 2 months i was singing praises for it, hahaha...irony. 3rd month cursing, 4th month accepting, now 5th month already used to its ups and downs.

but since i am happy with the other isp that i tested, i decided to terminate maxis. it was good while it lasted, but it has too many restriction (blocked tracker, 3Gb FUP, unreasonably low cap speed etc etc) even when we as consumer already compromise so much. we have only that much of patience you see. sure, there are ways to escape speed cap, but since we r already paying...i dont see whats the point for us with all the trouble.

am using the isp with 20GB FUP, and speed cap that is reasonable if u exceed it. search around and you'll find the isp with this terms.

Thanks for your info, too bad p1 still isn't on coverage while there is coverage 1.5 miles away, maybe near.
I was thinking of exceeding the 3GB and see how slow is the capped speed but maybe they will not do it as i think it is one of their tactical move. I guess i would download more and return them on the 6th day and look for other broadband, preferable wired for gaming.

no worries. i dont have to pay for sharing my experiance...=)

yeah, for gaming....wired broadband win hands down. until we have any form of cable internet or equivalent, streamyx is still the best of the worst, for balance of gaming & download. the only competitions are other isp with wired services, but sadly is still very limited both in provider and also area coverage.

that's true... I'm now using streamyx 1mbps but it is slow as snail most of the time. I have been waiting for penangfon to set up in my area but 2 years have passed and it is still under construction.

Just now i saw someone's post that states maxis wireless bb has actually got 20gb bandwidth limit, not the 3gb as stated in term and condition. No idea if it is true though smile.gif Anyway, maxis is not appropriate for me since my family members are going to use broadband for gaming, so it is not wise to drop streamyx for wireless BB...

I saw in prasys blog that streamyx 4GB has very good speed but the rest are snail-like. maybe i will try that out if it is available.
