http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0464141/ever since Pan's Labyrinth i've been trying to watch horror movies from spain. This one is quite good. It is a bit slow at the beginning (much like Pan Labyrinth) but the story picks up at the middle. some really good scare in the movie too. What i like about the movie is its not your typica crazy bloody ghost story. its more like a psychological horror. i would compare it to Allejandro Amenabar's The Others (hmm another spanish director.. i think i can see a trend here). You hardly see the ghost but still manage to creep you out!! i would recommend this film to all horror movies afficinados. i dont think it will be shown on cinema so happy hunting. here are some samples;

I was going watch this but seeing as its from spain I thought it wouldn't be in English. There no longer make good horror movies. I am Legend was supposed to be a horror but there was nothing scary about it. Halloween was also another highly speculated one but it was more of a thriller than a horror.
Is El Orfanto in English ?

well they have subtitles. SRT files are good! but i am learning spanish as my fourth language. i love how melodious the language is.
Hellboy is one of my fav comic and the movie adaptation is better than most. yeah i cant wait for HB 2 as well. i will watch the movie because it's a Guillermo Del Toro movie. consequently El Orfanato was brought to the states by GDT. he is trying to push spanish language film in the USA. good for him.
i accidentally stumbled upon this film while discussing asian horror movies on IMDB. a spanish friend of mine recommended it to me.

i just saw this film in the cinema yesterday. with english subtitles ofcourse. but the film is not heavy on dialogues, so u dont really depend on the subtitles too much. although i dont recommend watching it without subtitles if u dont understand a word of spanish, coz there are still crucial moments that depends on dialogues being delivered.
i highly recommend this film to anyone. the slow part in the first act of the film is good in building up the characters and lays down the clues to the rest of the story. it's not just building up the suspends. this film would appeal to most japanese horror fans, however u get a different kind of chill instead. even if u're watching it in a cinema full of other viewers, u will still get the chills.
there are lots of memorable moments in this film, which i know will be copied by hollywood filmmakers soon enough...

the twist ending is kick ass as well. i think all horor movies now must have a twist ending to make it good. and this movie delivered it in spades!

obefiend, yes, that scene freaked me out, as well as the rest of the theatre hahaha. i just knew the opening scene would somehow have a macabre twist somewhere in the film. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « my favorite scene is the one with the medium. with all the greenish night vision videos and all the invisible voices... argh creepy!

Getting Started

yeah! i thought that was the scariest scene too... if you like Guillermo del Toro, try checking out Devil's Backbone. I got hooked on his stuff ever since Blade II. haha. yeah, love that movie. I think Pan's Labyrinth's his best work yet. QUOTE(obefiend @ Mar 25 2008, 08:06 PM) hey azarimyhow do you like the "1 2 3 Touch the wall" scene. that one creeps me out man. i have to cover my face!! I saw this a few weeks ago. I thought it was more creepy than scary. The only parts that scared the shit out of me was.. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « The part were the old lady got rammed by the car and you get to see her disfigured jaw. And...that dead kid's rotten face. I thought the ending was really well done. Things that happen throughout the movie falls into place which leads to a pretty unexpected ending. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I wasn't expecting the kid to be found dead but it happened anyway. But how he died was even more depressing because his own mom accidentally trapped him in the room. So yea..that really got me and I felt a bit sick.
