private placement is not to take company to private. It is like to issue additional 10% of shares to a third party without trading on stock exchange, basically for additional working capital and better team up. Should not have much impact on share price, as these shares are held as long term investment by the third party.

Just 2sen opinion.

Genting International PLC today close is SGD 0.59.

Btw, just recent KLSE newly implement new system or rules seems puzzle a lot of people.

Last year budget time.
1. Introduce single tier dividend system.
2. Increase min brokerage fee by 3x or more to RM40.

Now.
3. Merger of main and second board. <-- hard to finfd a reason for that.

Non of those seem beneficiary to investors especially retailers. Kind of hard to find a concrete reason what it has to do to promote investment in KLSE except the newly commission rate is fully negotiable for substantial amount of money traded one.

Retailers gain none from it. About the main and second board merger one, why need to have second board in the first place. <---- lot of retailers being burned heavily by second board counters, quite similar to recent CWs 'hangus' story. Second board index (which had been abolished, may be too ugle to be seen tongue.gif, just joking) was up until 500-600, when it was abolished just 1-2 years ago, the index is hovering at around 100+ only, <-- see the degree of damage?

Second board counters are simply too easy to ''goreng' due to low liquidity, that's why when the strong wave of scond board 'goreng' season, almost all second board counters price sky-rocketing to insane price, most at least Rm10+ and above. Repco was the infamous 'king of the share' being 'goreng' kau kau and went to to as high as Rm100+ to Rm200.

Shares issued pursuant to a private placement scheme is also traded on the Exchange. The Investors are normally identified by the company and is supposed to be "long term investors".It does have some impact on the company's future earnings and should affect the price on long term.

For long term, it always depend on how good is the management. When the co takes a loan or issues more shares, cashflow will improve and hence a better bottom line is expected. However, if management is poor, then it would act as a double edge sword. Then, also the effect of share dilution again.

In the past, some companies also misused the money from the right issues ( for other purposes ) for example.

Bursa boards to be unified

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday announced a streamlining of Bursa Malaysia's main and second boards, as well as the structure of Mesdaq market.

He said the two boards would be combined into a unified board for more established companies with strong financial track records.

Abdullah, who is also Finance Minister, said the Mesdaq market would be revamped under the proposed streamlining process to allow smaller companies to access the equity market at an earlier stage of their lifecycle.

"The unified board will have uniform listing requirements and comprehensive disclosure based regulations with easy entry and fast removal access.

"For Mesdaq, the listing of emerging companies will be sponsor-driven whereby advisers will play a greater role in bringing listings to the market and maintain on-going supervision by reducing the number of boards and the number of listing requirements," he said in his keynote address at Invest Malaysia 2008.

Abdullah said the move would help catalyse the listing of more high quality companies in the local equities market.

The Government, he said, would be establishing a market-making framework for Bursa Malaysia.

"Market makers can include proprietary traders in commercial and investment banks as well as foreign traders to provide liquidity in the market," he said, adding that the initiative would help price discovery, promote innovation and enhance market liquidity.

"The government will offer incentives such as tax concessions and lower fees to attract financial institutions to act as market makers," he said.

Abdullah also said the government would allow the setting up of a third credit rating agency with foreign strategic partners holding up to 49% equity interest.

"We hope the domestic rating agencies will enhance their performance through better supervision and more competition," he added.

Currently Malaysia has two rating agencies: namely Rating Agency Malaysia Bhd and Malaysia Rating Corp Bhd.

Meanwhile, Abdullah also announced that the government would liberalise the bond market approval framework.

DATUK ZARINAH ANWAR

Chairman

Securities Commission (SC)

SC is still working on the rules and regulations to enable the revamp on Bursa Malaysia's Mesdaq, main and second board structure to be implemented and operational by year-end.

For (the new) Mesdaq, it will not only be for high-tech and high-growth companies, as we want more emerging companies to participate.

DATUK KRISHNAN TAN

Managing Director

IJM Corp Bhd

THE Government's poll losses will not slow down the spending on public works. Awards may peak but jobs may take two to three years to finish.

Many big construction companies already have substantial order books to provide two years of earnings. If there is a delay, it will be in order book enhancement and should not affect earnings in the immediate term.

DATUK LIM HONG THYE

Executive Director

Ann Joo Resources Bhd

THERE must be a good reason for the call to combine the main and second boards as well as revamp the Mesdaq market. Hopefully, this will lead to better efficiency, transparency and more quality stocks listed on Bursa Malaysia.

PUSHPA RAJADURAI

Executive Director

AmInvestment Bank

THE industry has been asking for disclosure-based regulation in line with other jurisdictions. We can now have a common playing field with other countries. It is a step forward.

The disclosures that corporations have to make with regards to initial public offerings (IPOs) must be comprehensive and ensure quality.

Intermediaries must ensure that is in line with Bursa Malaysia's focus on quality, complete disclosure and growth.

It is for companies with track record and need to tap the capital market.

These companies require good branding and investor relations before and after listing, as they will have to convince more investors to buy their shares.

The revamp of Mesdaq is timely and the opening up to sponsors is driven by the market and in line with what is happening in the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange (AIM).

Mesdaq companies will have to ensure they have a growing business model and sound management. This is positive for those with a business that can compete with the technology and know-how.

For us, this will be a better year although for now, the overall market plunge has affected sentiment.

There were 40 IPOs done in 2006; 27 in 2007 and this is expected to go back up to 40 or 50 this year.

We are looking at the value chain - plantations, property, oil and gas and corridor developments.

Mergers and acquisitions will continue as people look at market capitalisation, privatisations and foreign interests.

There could be foreign buyouts of local companies.

Malaysia's AirAsia X buys 10 more Airbus planes

KUALA LUMPUR : Malaysian long-haul budget airline pioneer AirAsia X said on Tuesday it will buy 10 more Airbus A330-300 aircraft for 2.1 billion dollars, bringing its fleet to a total of 25 aircraft.

The carrier had previously signed an order with Airbus for 15 of the aircraft.

Azran Osman Rani, chief executive officer of AirAsia X, told AFP that a signing ceremony to confirm the purchase of the 10 additional A330s would be held on Thursday.

"The list price for the 10 new aircraft is 2.1 billion dollars. With this firm order, the total number of A330 aircraft in our fleet will be 25," he said.

On future fleet expansion plans, Azran said the airline was eyeing the "next generation aircraft of Airbus 350-900 and the Boeing 787-9."

AirAsia X has began flying to Australia's Gold Coast and to China using a leased A330.

It has plans to launch flights to Britain in the fourth quarter of 2008 after acquiring additional aircraft and will eventually extend to Europe, Japan and the Middle East, with fares on average 50 percent lower than full-service carriers.

AirAsia X, an affiliate of AirAsia and Virgin Blue, was launched in January 2007. AirAsia and AirAsia X share common shareholders, including AirAsia founder and chief Tony Fernandes.

Richard Branson's Virgin Group has taken a 20 percent stake in the airline and the British billionaire has vowed to ensure that the project turns a profit. - AFP/de

Anyone can explain about a bullish signal called a double 9-1 days and a 90% day that just occurred recently in the US which supposedly is a bullish signal that emerges and the 60-day average afterwards shows something like a 22% appreciation in stock prices. rclxms.gif thumbup.gif

This could be timecom's turnaround. Like I said, anything can happen when spoon-fed people are forced to work. We'll see its future. Atleast short term it might gain a few.

But not sure will go up again (maybe need some Viagara later; maybe Mr. Bush can help)

temasek selling some thing they own to maybank for 1.2billion or is it 1.4bil. so counter suspended

KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--Malayan Banking Bhd. (1155.KU) Wednesday said it has agreed to buy 100% of Sorak Financial Holdings Pte Ltd, which owns 56% of Bank Internasional Indonesia, or BII, for $1.5 billion.

Maybank said also that it will make a tender offer for the remaining 44% stake in BII for $1.2 billion, taking its total acquisition cost for BII to $2.7 billion.

Sorak is 75%-owned by Singapore's Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd and 25% by Kookmin Bank.

BII is Indonesia's sixth-largest lender by assets.

"The acquisition will transform our growth prospects in Indonesia and is a huge step forward in our strategy to regionalize our operations through investments in selected high growth markets," Maybank said.

Maybank is Malaysia's biggest lender by assets and income.

Yup, the more experience you are in the market, then it is the reality (90% chance) for playing short term on 'goreng' counter. Sometimes you need at least 2 gain to cover 1 loss. Then after 3 transaction done become breakeven, but for sure remisers and investment house are very happy man. rclxms.gif

Forex is a bit different than stock market, there are more lean to fundamental and technical side of play.

As movement in currencies market is generally small, you need high leverage to have meaningful gain from it.

If I am not mistaken, our friends here bought in UEMBLDR around 1.40-1.60.. Then when mart started to come down badly, our friends decided to cut loss.. its not contra but buy and keep with a hope of its going up.. sigh... unfortunately it came down..

If the particular stock can 'sleep' then still OK, but some 'hangus' and afterwards being delisted one (CWs expired, PN17 forced to be delisted by KLSE) then all down to the drain. So one should always choose wisely.

Just my 2 cents

prepare to enter market again when next bear come. last few days is just mini rally only.
We'll expected to see some small correction again when US banks announced its financial results in mid April.

Btw, anyone attended ATIC '08 last Saturday and Sunday at KL Convention center?
The seminar schedule are very tight. Every half an hour need to change place. Remind me of college studies long time ago(college lifes).

i asked a couple of RESORTS shareholders, they don't seem interested with the offer either hmm.gif

the effect is that u cant buy/sell at a price higher than the limit up price (30% of session's closing price). likewise for limit down, u cant buy/sell at a price lower den the limit down price.

really crazy mann...transmile was the company affected by the recent scandal involving fictitious account being announced (correct me if i'm wrong) and the share price suddenly hit limit up. maybe there's some internal news we dunno but if there issit...good luck in buying it...lol

Do you wish had it (transmile)? hehe icon_idea.gif
Those had it still feeling the pain even 3x limit up also way below their breakeven price.

There is once across the board (even blue chips like Genting) limit up (half of the market counters) when the market open just after the CNY. But there was when KLCI at 300+ points time back 1998. Nothing to be happy about, as just mean recoup some losses.

KLSE is always like that. Fund managers (including PNB and EPF) got interest in index linked and support their portfolio stocks while those second and third liners are being left out on their own which depended on retailers interest only.

ya think so, tranmil will stay limit up now cos buyers coming in droves where buyers que is more than 10% of total volume...

MGO is Mandatory General Offer wheer someone offers to buy big bulk of shares at a higher price than the market price... it could be offered to other big shareholders and minority shareholders... the price will be determined by the buyer and usually it depends on the quantity of shares they wana acquire. if the want to take it private, then have to pay more leh..

Once it is MGO, they need to take all the shares, can't set how many shares they want, it needs to be offered across all the shareholders of the company, it is same as to take it private already as listing company need to have at least 25% of liquid shares floating around at least 1,000 shareholders.

Whether they succeed or not, different case. If not succeed, company still can be listing as long as it complied the listing requirement of the shareholding spread.

The price one bought has nothing to do how much they are getting the dividend. Each share is given out 2 cents disregard you bought it at 2.00 or 1.20.

All warrants are not entitled any dividend one, that's for sure, unless you convert the warrant to the mothershare prior before.

To be precise, warrant is just an 'agreement paper' let one to subscribe/buy the mothershare at specific price set. It has no right in the company until they are converted to the mothershare. Warrants holders are not considered shareholders of the company until it is converted to the mothershare.

guys, tried finding from http://biz.thestar.com.my/marketwatch/bonus/alldividends.asp but can't seem to locate the ex-date and payment date for the latest sapcres dividends. can anyone help me out here?

btw, where do u guys refer for the latest payment dates of dividends? noticed that the above-posted url seems a lil slow for latest updates.

am forecasting that mkt is due for a lil correction / profit taking tmw so am analysing whether its feasible to get sapcres tmw...combined wif the payment of dividends if it is due soon hmm.gif

the dividends are proposed and waiting for the next meeting to get approval from shareholders. Another announcement will be made for this so that's why you can't get the details yet.
You should go to Bursa Malaysia webpage for loads of info."
To see individual companies' announcements, go Bursa Malaysia, click "announcements, then click "by company"

I guess the market will go for correction for the rest of the week. Many ppl hav bought share when market up alot in previous rally, plus US got many lower-than-expected indexes release in these few days. So better be careful. Just my 2 cents.

I believe it's 2 cent dividend, not 2%. So it should be RM20 - 26% = RM14.80 dividend cheque.

If compay announces 2 cents then it is 2 cents.
But some company do annouce in percentage wise eg. 2% then you need to calculate 2% x par value = xx cents.

Now it's tricky when to sell the O n G counters. Theres political turmoil coming soon out of t'ganu and KK etc and US seems to be set to tumble again tonight but this also means that O n G might go up abit on the weakening dollar. Any advise guys on when to sell my O n G?

Added on March 27, 2008, 11:50 amYeah the earliest you can sell to get the dividend is on ex-date but the price has been corrected dy that morning so you'll be selling lower than the previous day -dividend.

I think should look at the ex-date (exclusion date), but not the payment date.
Means if you still own the stock before ex-date, although you sell it later, you still entitle for the dividend.

There are not many big players coming in. EPF, ASB and Tabung Haji has not made any major move yet. Not sure why they are staying on the sideline.

They are quite active in the market already, just short of foreign fund activities.

Recent activities would be Tabung Haji on UEMBuilders.

ASB acquiring aggressively on SIME, a few millions shares.

EPF on some Pbbank and lot of TNB shares.

I believe local funds also keen on supporting/buying Maybank today as well, just my guess.

KLCI down, dragged by Maybank

By JOSEPH CHIN

KUALA LUMPUR: The KLCI snapped its winning streak in the morning session on Thursday, dragged down by losses in Maybank, but weaker Bursa Malaysia also mirrored the losses on most Asian markets due to the weaker Wall Street.

At 12.30pm, the KLCI had fallen 5.28 points or 0.42% to 1,240.14, but off the early low of 1,230.33. The FBMEmas fell 41.49 points to 8,368.77 while the FBM Second Board eased 3.50 points to 5,804.71.

Turnover was 372.84 million shares valued at RM676.6mil. There were 240 gainers, 360 losers while 195 counters were traded unchanged.

On Wall Street, the markets closed weaker, dragged down by financial shares on concerns that bank profits would take much longer than expected to recover from the housing slump.

At the Asian markets, Shanghai's A Share Index skidded 3.79% or 143.60 points to 3,640.68, Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 119.56 points or 0.94% to 12,587.07 and Singapore's Straits Times Index lost 0.14% to 2,991.06 while South Korea's Kospi gave up 0.63% to 1,669.165. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index advanced 0.41% to 22,710.35.

Light crude oil futures jumped to US$106.43 per barrel.

Crude palm oil lost RM50 to RM3,650 per tonne.

At Bursa Malaysia, sentiment was affected by selling pressure on Maybank. Maybank was the most active with 23.10 million shares done. It fell 65 sen to RM8.30, off the intra-day low of RM8. The fall in the shares shaved off 5.88 points from the 100-stock KLCI.

Maybank-CF call warrants fell 5.5 sen to 12.5 sen and Maybank-CG 1.5 sen to 5.5 sen.

Fitch Ratings said Maybank's proposed acquisition of PT Bank Internasional Indonesia for about 24.9 trillion rupiah or RM8.6bil would be beneficial in the longer term.

CIMB Equities Research said the price tag translated into 3.7 times to 4.0 times CY08-09 price/book value, which was above the two times to three times range for previous bank mergers and acquisitions in Indonesia.

However, CIMB Research believed the high valuation will be compensated by the strong growth prospects in Indonesia with it population of 224.9 million and an under-penetrated market.

"Although the valuation is on the high side, we are positive about the acquisition of BII as it will give Maybank a springboard into the high-growth Indonesian market," it said.

Other losers in the morning session were Tanjong and KL Kepong, down 50 sen each to RM16.40 and RM16.30 while United Plantations lost 30 sen to RM13. Kossan and Sarawak Oil Palms gave up 20 sen each to RM3.58 and RM5.60 respectively.

However, actively traded MRCB rose two sen to RM1.38. Penny stocks Kosmo, Liqua and Mobif rose in active trade, with Kosmo adding three sen to 18.5 sen while Liqua and Mobif gained 1.5 sen each to 22.5 sen and 24 sen respecitvely. Loss-making air cargo transporter Transmile added 25 sen to RM2.36.

Other gainers were Ranhill, up 22 sen to RM1.73 while Petra Perdana added 20 sen to RM8.65 while Gamuda's strong earnings saw its share price rising 18 sen to RM3.32.

27-03-2008: Maybank shares dive after BII purchase

Email us your feedback at fd@bizedge.com

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares in Malaysia's biggest lender, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank), tumbled to a 3-1/2-year low on Thursday after it offered to buy Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) for US$2.7 billion (RM8.64 billion).

Maybank surprised investors on Wednesday by saying it would pay US$1.5 billion for 56% of Indonesia's sixth-largest lender -- a 23% premium to Tuesday's share price -- and would offer to buy out the bank's minority shareholders for US$1.2 billion.

"The price tag... was more than 50% higher than we assumed for a mediocre franchise," Citigroup said in a note, downgrading Maybank to a sell from a buy. It slashed Maybank's target price to RM8.38 a share from RM10.63.

Maybank shares fell as much as 11% to RM8 a share in the first few minutes of trade, its lowest level since August 2004. At 0126 GMT, the stock fetched RM8.35.

The offer price represented 4.6 times book value, expensive even when compared with Chinese banks that trade at between 3.3 and 5.4 times book value, according to Reuters data. -- Reuters

Added on March 27, 2008, 7:48 pmMaybank falls 10.6% on concerns of RM8.6bil acquisition

By Joseph Chin

KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd's share price fell as much as 10.6% or 95 sen in early trade on Thursday on some investors' concerns that it was paying a high price of RM8.6 bil for a 100% stake in PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk.

It opened at RM8.40, down 55 sen. Within the first hour of trade, there were 14.81 million shares done at prices ranging from RM8 to RM8.45.

At 10am, it was trading at RM8.45, down 50 sen or 5.6%.

The KLCI fell points to 12.18 points to 1,233.24 as investors locked in gains, uninspired by the weak closing on Wall Street. US financial shares slid when concerns resurfaced that bank profits will take much longer than expected to recover from the housing slump. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 109.74 points, or 0.88%, at 12,422.86.

On Maybank, OSK Investment Research said in a note to clients that the acquisition price was not cheap as based on the acquisition price.

"We must admit that the acquisition price is not cheap as based on the acquisition price, BII is essentially priced at 4.45 times and 61.5 times FY07 BPS and EPS, respectively, or 4.26 times and 33.0 times FY08 BPS and EPS," it said.

However, it always believed that Maybank should expand its overseas presence in order to mitigate the saturated domestic market share.

"We believe the Indonesia banking sector offers more upside in the long-run as per the ratio of total outstanding loans-to-nominal GDP. However, due to the potential near-term profitability dilution, we have lowered our fair value to RM10.80 but maintain our BUY call," it said.

On Wednesday, Maybank announced it wanted to take over Sorak Holdings Ltd, which has a 55.7% stake in PT Bank International Indonesia Tbk (BII), from Fullerton Financial Holdings and Kookmin Bank for RM4.8bil cash. It will later make a general offer for all BII shares it does not own. Starbiz reported that to some people, Maybank's move to pay RM8.6bil, or 4.6 times book value, indicated how desperately the group wanted BII, Indonesia's sixth biggest bank.

The valuation is among the highest in the industry. The offer price is about 20% above Jakarta Stock Exchange-listed (JSE) BII's market price. The book value of 4.6 times is about double the average valuation among Indonesia's publicly traded banks.

The top four banks listed on JSE are currently trading at about 3.9 times. BII's net profit has been declining since 2004. For the year ended Dec 31, 2007, the bank's net profit fell to 404.7 billion rupiah (RM142mil) from 633.7 billion rupiah (RM222.3mil) in 2006.

Maybank shares hit 5-year low

PETALING JAYA: Malayan Banking Bhd's (Maybank) successful bid for PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII) does not seem to have gone down well with the investing public as the stock fell to its lowest level in almost five years.

While analysts and fund managers concurred that the acquisition was the right move for cultivating long-term growth, some investors were more concerned about the short-term pain Maybank might have to bear.

Maybank shares was down 55 sen, or 6.1%, to RM8.40 - the lowest since July 2003. The counter dipped to an intra-day low of RM8, with 42 million shares changing hands.

BII shares, however, rocketed to seven-year high of 470 rupiah on the Jakarta Stock Exchange yesterday amid expectation that Maybank would soon make a tender offer of around 510 rupiah per share for the remaining 44.3% that it does not own in the Indonesian bank.

The strong selling came after a few foreign stockbrokers downgraded the banking blue chip to "sell" following Maybank's announcement of the RM8.6bil deal to buy BII at price-to-book value of 4.6 times.

Maybank intends to take over Sorak Holdings Ltd, which owns a 55.7% stake in BII from Fullerton Financial Holdings and Kookmin Bank for RM4.8bil cash. It will later make a general offer for all BII shares it does not own.

South Korea-based Kookmin Bank, however, has yet to decide on the sale of its 25% equity interest in Sorak to Maybank, according to Bloomberg.

Apart from the high price that Maybank was paying for BII, analysts were also concerned the acquisition might sap the group's financial resources to maintain its dividend payment.

A Maybank spokesman said: "The bank would keep to a minimum dividend policy of 60%, subject to Bank Negara approval, we intend to maintain dividends per share. Whatever that was paid in terms of quantum last year will be maintained.''

In terms of capital repayment, the spokesman said: "We have informed shareholders to give two years until the end of financial year 2008 if there are no acquisitions, then we can look into capital repayment. But now we have found good use for the money through a long-term acquisition in Indonesia."

Said Merrill Lynch analyst Loo Kar Weng: "This deal dashes the hope of Maybank returning excess capital to shareholders in the form of dividends. That was one of the key attractions of the stock.

"Furthermore, even its normal annual dividends may be affected as its earnings get diluted from the cost of the acquisition," he wrote in a research note.

Dividends had been the factor making Maybank shares appealing to investors when the earnings growth of the country's biggest bank was getting less exciting compared with its peers, such as Bumiputra-Commerce Holdings Bhd and Public Bank Bhd, which are enjoying contribution from investments abroad.

The concerns over the possibility of less generous dividend payment and expectation of no immediate contribution from its Indonesia operations gave no solid reason for investors to hold onto Maybank shares, a dealer said.

Investors could always buy the shares later when the acquisition in Indonesia started to yield fruit, he added.

Citi Investment Research analyst Stephan Hasjim in Indonesia said having Maybank as a new shareholder was good news for BII as it could add significant value and strengthen the bank's franchise.

However, he noted that it would take a few years for BII to achieve the industry average of 18% return on equity given the growing competition, the bank's high cost base and Indonesia's rising inflation.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Maybank acting chief executive officer Datuk Aminuddin Md Desa said BII would only start contributing to the group's profit in the third year after the acquisition.

He defended the high price was for a "scarcity premium" and the great potential of the sizeable consumer loan market.

"Some may balk at the hefty price target for BII but we see this investment as one that would enhance Maybank's earnings profile and provide sustainable growth over the long term," said AmResearch, which maintains its "buy" recommendation on the stock.

It said BII would provide Maybank with the platform to tap onto Indonesia's banking industry with "limited execution risks".

Mild fund buying lifts KLCI off early low

KUALA LUMPUR: The market opened lower in early trade on Friday, weighed down by the overnight losses on Wall Street, but some buying of blue chips including MISC, IJM and Maybank lifted the KLCI off its early lows.

At 10am, the KLCI was just down 0.24 point to 1,253.79, off the opening low of 1,247.10. Turnover was 197 million shares valued at RM272.60mil. There were 172 gainers, 188 losers and 138 counters unchanged.

Among Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.06% to 12,597.50, Singapore';s Straits Times Index lost 0.03% to 3,024.15 while Shanghai's A Share Index eased 0.13% to 3,574.21. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index opened 0.41% higher at 22,756.42.

On Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 120.40 points, or 0.97%, to end at 12,302.46.

In the United States, corporate profits fell 3.3% in the fourth quarter of 2007, according to government data. The Commerce Department said the economy grew at an annual rate of just 0.6% in the fourth quarter, unchanged from a previous estimate and down sharply from 4.9% in the third quarter.

At Bursa Malaysia, Maybank, which hit a five-year low of RM8.40 Thursday, rose 10 sen to RM8.50. MISC and the foreign shares rose 40 sen each to RM9.40 and RM9.50 respectively, while IJM added 15 sen to RM6. Public Bank gained 10 sen to RM10.80.

Ewein, which was listed Friday, jumped 24.5 sen to 94.5 sen. The Penang-based company makes tools, dies and parts for electrical and electronics equipment.

The warrants of Wah Seong, which were listed Friday, surged 30 sen to 30.5 sen but the shares eased three sen to RM2.06.

SP Setia was unchanged at RM3.68 off the early high of RM3.74. Analysts said the first quarter earnings for the period ended Jan 31, 2008 of RM49mil was broadly in line with their recently lowered profit numbers.

"Although it came in at 18% of our full-year forecast as well as consensus estimates, it was not a surprise as 1Q is typically the weakest quarter and the shortfall should be covered in the remaining quarters," said CIMB Equities Research.

Gula Perak rose 0.5 sen to 11.5 sen and it was the most active counter with 14.77 million shares done. Stocks on the move included Berjaya Corp, up seven sen to RM1.17 and Berjaya Corp-LC added six sen to 66.5 sen.

The major losers were IOI Prop, sliding 70 sen to RM11.10 but with only 1,000 shares done. BCHB and Shell fell 20 sen each to RM10.10 and RM10.90. Also down 20 sen was DiGi to RM24.20. Telekom gave up 10 sen tp RM10.70.

Wah Seong is scrapping at the bottom price. 52 weeks low is 2.00.

The Edge gave a good backing for the stock for long term. The business is still very good and expected returns are high.

Any takers?

Sapcres weighted down by alot of selling pressures. Those who bought abit lower but unwilling to collect today and want to sell. It is still at a higher price than what they bought, myself included.

US futures turn green. The sell off last night dominated by tech weakness on some bad news and weak GDP. Should recover tonight. Our regional markets are looking good hinting at a sign of foreign spending. Malaysia seems to be relatively not preferred due to political instability. Also local institutions are buying at low volume hence the low daily volume.

Guys,

I've been quite busy lately and I like to find out more of the following. Can you please help me to shed more light?

1. In http://mreit.blogspot.com/, the dividend yield is about 8% but when I check Maybank2u AmFirst paid only about 2cents devidend last year. So how did we get 8%? Please help me to understand.

2. With MayBank at abt 8.50, what is the dividend yield?

IMHO, I think the statement is not right.
First, you need to own 12 WASEONG shares to get these rights issue+warrant. So, your capital is not RM500 but more than that. Unless u can get warrant in the market at 0.005cents value. But i doubt you can, coz warrant holders won't sell their warrants at this price.

So, just beware. Dun take this as easy way to get rich. No free lunch in this world.. whistling.gif

Thanks for helping out. I will check in again later and see if I can catch these 2 counters.
*
Amfirst is giving out 3.6 cents for half year, lastest semi distribution. Annualised expect around 7.2 cents which translate to >8%.

Bare in mind Maybank just acquire a overpriced Indonesian banks, which will affect it cashflow in the future, so past dividend history is not a good indicator to judge future dividend yield.

Nobody is buying at Rm0.005 for the warrant, the Rm0.005 just an indicated opening price, it doesn't mean people bought at Rm0.005.

The warrant is given for free for those subscribe right issue of Waseong, But you lose out on the right issue but gain on warrant, it is a trade off.

Oh, thanks for the info.

I am aware of the 'bad purchase' by Maybank and is still monitoring this counter. Still prefer PBB than Maybank but the price of PBB is out of reach. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

1 lot = 100units/shares.
for those old LYN forumers: 1 biji mean 1000units (not sure currently, how is calculation now)...

Btw, want to ask why DJ is down yesterday but today asian bourse green in morning session? any reasons?
Most analyst said it is because of window dressing or because of stock futures where next Monday is expired date.
How does it affect current stock market based on futures expiring date?

Thanks in advance.

Just add on position on Panamy only, as its financial year is ended 31/3 one, so can expect some final and special dividend when it releasing its financial result around end of April or May time. Final dividend always will be 35 cents (total for the year always 50 cents, has been like that for years or decade) and some special dividend, last year 65 cents.

Just little 'shopping' only, still saving bullets.

I always bought those 'boring' stock, won't go up one. biggrin.gif
Just for dividend yield purposes.

Yup, there is lot of talk about window dressing after a poor performance of 1Q 2008. Window dressing is more intense when market performs badly time, as fund managers struggle to make the number look 'prettier'. May be it is the reason why local fund managers are buying recent few days, just my guess.

sometimes really tempted to buy

for eg. MAYBULK

when price hover at 3.70 - 3.80
over confidence that it might drop further
as self set a target price at 3.50 - 3.60

now price at 4.10 - 4.12
by right it should be "overpriced"
the evil heart will say, "hey buy lah, the price will go up further" (no longer thinking rationally, you see)

and the mind sometimes is disturbed by the upcoming dividends
keep thinking, dividend is coming, dividend is coming
must buy liao, dun wait already!

yes, i might be right, i might be wrong
if price doesn't move upwards, i'll be trapped at 4.10
however, price might move upwards to 4.30 - 4.50, nobody knows

*think rationally, don't let your emotion override everything*

i decided to wait for the next round.
who knows i might catch some fish & get to enjoy the dividend pay at the same time tongue.gif

There is why I am buying some today, don't need to buy on lowest, buy near the low is already good enough.
Who's know what will happen in the near future. As long as satisfy with my need with consistent earning and good fundamental (dividend yield >6-7%) I will be fine with it.

Always search for lowest will mean you won't buy anything. As when it is on the lowest point, you also don't know, only when price goes up afterwards, you only know it is the lowest, right?

Same with me, if I want to buy something after evaluating it, I won't bother queue for it. I just call my broker, tell her to buy it 'NOW!' then wait for the confirmation.

If it's something I wish to buy but too expensive I just ask the broker to tell me when it reaches my target price. Haha already so many times they call me whenever Maybulk reaches below RM4, but I still never buy. laugh.gif

i seldom Q for buying.. i will buy it at lowest selling price.. i want the share straight on hand.. or else dont buy it..
but for selling, i will.. especially when i knew i made a wrong decision, and i just want to let go at break even price..

Why not? Instead putting in FD of 3.7%, I can get 6-7% and now with some reit price going down, the yield mostly become more than 7% net (after deducting witholding tax, if not witholding tax, gross yield is around 8-9%)

Reit is not like ordinary stock. You can't treat it as normal stock.

No, it just mean that are 400 millions shares outstanding in the market that entitled for the dividend.

0.075 + 0.225 = 0.25 less 26% = 18.5 cents net.

= 30 cents less 26% = 22.2 cents.

Thanks lklatmy for highlighting my mistake.

0.50 is the par value of the shares.

Just like you have 1 millions paid up capital, you can either issue with 2 million shares of Par value of 0.50 or 1 million shares of 1.00 each. If you issued Par value of 0.50 will ended more shares in the market. That's the different.

Maybank doesn't need to raise funds

By KATHY FONG

PETALING JAYA: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) does not need to raise money to finance the proposed RM8.6bil cash acquisition of Indonesia's PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII).

However, in the longer term, the group would explore various fund-raising options, including the issuance of new shares, to implement an active capital management policy post-acquisition, a Maybank spokesman said yesterday.

"We have cash and liquid assets of RM34bil. That's sufficient to pay for BII and Vietnam's Ann Binh Bank (RM430mil cash).

"There is a possibility that we may opt to raise equity funds to maintain our capital adequacy ratio but not for the acquisitions," the spokesman told StarBiz.

Maybank's top management had told an analysts' briefing on Thursday that the group was looking at several options to raise funds. They included equity, innovative and non-innovative tier-1 capital, and subordinated debt.

The remarks led analysts to believe that Maybank may want to raise equity funds and, as a result, bring in a new strategic shareholder to help finance the mega deal, which would allow the group to gain a foothold in Indonesia.

The Maybank spokesman, however, said there was no such intention.

Nonetheless, analysts say regardless of Maybank's reasons for raising money, it is undeniable it would have to find fresh funds as a result of the BII deal.

"The company hinted that the BII deal would be partly financed by equity,'' CIMB Equity Research said in a report issued after the briefing. "This will not be in the form of a rights issue but new shares issued to foreign strategic shareholders."

The stockbroker said Maybank had ample capacity to raise additional capital, including RM2.5bil in innovative tier-1 capital, RM7bil in non-innovative tier-1 capital and RM4bil in subordinated debts.

RHB Research expects Maybank to have the capacity to raise RM9.5bil in hybrid tier-1 capital.

To maintain a comfortable tier-1 capital of 8%, Citi Equity Investment said the "best option" would be to raise equity capital.

It estimated that Maybank would need to issue equity funds of RM3.6bil should the group opt to tap the equity market. "This could require an estimated 8% increase in issued capital," it added.

CIMB Equity Research said Maybank's goodwill would soar to RM6.45bil after the acquisition.

The purchase would reduce Maybank's core capital to 6.3% from 9.7% and the capital adequacy ratio (CAR) to 10.4% from 13.9% since goodwill would be deducted from the group's total capital in the calculation of CAR. "Hence, the group needs to issue new capital in the form of tier-1 hybrid capital or subordinated debt to raise the CAR to 11% to 12%," the research house said.

Probably they are running or testing with mock run to test their software, nothing to do with the real trade, just try out.
It is quite norm for some online trading portal to do the mock run during weekend to test their software and compatibility issue with clients.

Hi,
I am using HLeBroking account all the while and I notice that they offer 0.10% brokerage for intraday trading.
I have a few questions and hope the brothers here can help me.

1. Do I need to explicitly tell them that I need the intraday facility? Or is just just when I buy and sell in the same day, then my brokerage fees will 0.10%?
2. Based on question 1, whenever I buy a stock, I notice that my account is debited with the amount of stock I buy and with the 0.42% brokerage fees. So if I am going to sell in the same day (if this will activate intraday trading), does that mean that some portion of my initial brokerage fees of 0.42% will be credited back to me so that the brokerage fees is lessen to 0.10%?
3. For intraday trading, does the minimum brokerage fees of RM12 still hold?
4. Does the system actually allow buy and sell on the same day? Any problem with this based on the T+3 rule?

Based on my intraday experience using RHBInvest:
1)They will create new intraday account for intraday trading purposes. That intraday account is just extension from your existing account. For eg: Your normal trading account is A1. Your intraday trading account will be A1-D. Whenever you want to trade intraday, you need to use this intraday account.
2)Nvr encounter this before. Anyway if you can't managed to sell stock that you bought that day, your broker will call you and transfer the stock to your normal account and charge normal brokerage fees.
3)Not sure. IMHO, i think it should.
4)No T+3 rule applied for intraday trading only if you managed to buy & sell at same day. Else will treat it as normal trading.

Drawback:
Your remisier will always call you whenever reaching last hour of trading to ask you sell this stock(quite troublesome if you working). But it can avoided if your broker trust you.

wah you just main tembak only. From the FAQ it states that;

"Committed Uncleared Purchase or CUP
Where there is cash or available margin in the account at the time of placing the purchase order, the said order can be tagged as 'CUP' trade. This cash or margin amount will be locked for this 'CUP' trade for settlement."

"Direct Uncleared Purchase or DUP
When the said funds are available at the time of placing the purchase order, the order will be classified as a 'DUP' trade. "

Not really sure but I can guess maybe if you have margin, it will deduct the margin when you make a CUP trade. Where as in DUP, it will deduct the cash available from your account. In other words, you can't make purchases beyond your margin of trading. Best if you ask them directly to be honest.

Got a questions to those who are accomplished traders.

Is it wise or better to declare your trading profits as personal income or register a business and file it as company tax?

With personal tax, cannot get much deductions and need to pay more tax. Where as for business, can whack a lot of things in expenses to reduce tax smile.gif

Can we register our company as share trading and others? brows.gif

Dude,
Capital gain (includingin stock market) is tax exempted in Malaysia. No difference as individual or businesses.

But for US, capital gain will be taxed at 15%, if not mistaken. That's why tax is also part of considering when selling a share in US. As long as you don't sell the share, on paper gain, it won't be taxed. But once you sold it, it is taxed on your profit made.

cup in maybank2u means they lock your cash for the purchase. if you have margin and insufficient cash, you cannot buy cup
dup is that you use margin account to buy. you are allowed to buy even when you have insufficient cash (subjected to your available margin). however when t+3 and you do not bank in the money, the bank will force sell your purchase.

in short , just buy cup and you can sleep in peace without bothering about top up .
dup is if you wan to hit and run in 3 days, you can buy many times more than your cash (your shares with maybank also adds to your margin)
you can buy 100k worth of shares even if you have only 10k cash plus you have many valuable shares bought with maybank.

If I don't use intraday trading facility, can I still buy and sell on the same day? Any restriction from T+3 perspective?
*
If u didn't use intraday trading, then those transactions is considered as normal trading.
Just follow as normal brokerage fee of 0.42%(maybe varied depend on traders) instead of 0.10%.
I think T+3 perspective is applied to normal trading rules. Not for intraday purposes.

If got contra losses, then it will deduct from your trading account else you will need to top-up to cover the losses.

knowing that HARTALEGA is a hand glove maker/manufaturer huh
i doubt it would perform well, look at TOPGLOV (price falling from 6.40 to 4.00)

anyway, it will be listing in BURSA on 17th-Apr
IPO price RM 1.80

p/s: the name itself doesn't sound "ong" to me
difficult to pronounce either sweat.gif
*
I still looking thru their IPO details.

Their P/E looks kind of high to me compared to others Glove Makers like Kossan, Supermax .. TopGloves

But they do have their own attractions.

It just like futures, when the futures/option expired, you need to clear your old position (long or shot, call or put) and start the new one if you wish to continue.

Try this link in our link thread. A lot of useful articles and guides.

http://www.investopedia.com/university/buildingblocks.asp

And for others looking for materials to read, try the link thread in this forum, there a lot of links there and would help a lot if many have links to contribute.

I've a question regarding the Bursa System.

Say if we order a buy at 3.10, however, there's a seller sells at 3.06. Will Bursa System match it for us?

Say if we order a sell at 3.10, however, there's a buyer buys at 3.16. Will Bursa System match it for us?

Some correction:

Yes for question one (personal experience. Que buy at opening at 2.15 and 2.20, but matched at 2.11 for all shares rclxms.gif )

Not sure about second question though (I assume you sell price will be same based on my first explanation)

My statement still stands. System will always buy at lowest and sell at highest.

If there is a queue to BUY at RM1.00 and you try to SELL at RM0.80, it will be sold at RM1.00.

If there is a queue to SELL at RM1.00 and you try to BUY at RM1.10, it will buy at RM1.00.

If there is a queue to SELL at RM1.00 and a queue to BUY at RM0.95, and you go and key in a BUY for RM1.10, you will BUY at RM1.00.

If there is a queue to SELL at RM1.00 and a queue to BUY at RM0.95, and you go and key in a BUY for RM0.85, you go into a RM0.85 queue.

Yes, you are correct in this statement.

Your "sell" price will be always maintained at your ask price. If no buyers, then you have to wait for your price in que.

If you are buying, you always get the lowest price, even if you bid for higher price (of course if there are sellers willing to let go at much lower price). I think this is applicable only at the opening bell.

During normal trading hours, it will be based on best sell price at that particular moment. Even if you try to sell it at lower price, the system will try to match you with the 1st best sell price (which might be higher than your asking price).

Their profits increased significantly due to revaluation of sunway pyramid mall expansion. Sort of 1 time gain.
Due to list its REIT in the 2nd half of 08.

Profit arise from the asset revaluation although is also part of increase in value for the shareholders or shareholders fund aka NTA, market generally won't response too signficantly on that kind of news as it is one off with no cashflow generated.

It is the operating core business profit which matter the most and investors are scrutinising on.

MAHSING brows.gif (i know you bought edy)

MAHSING at 1.38 is not cheap yet, our friend got it at 1.32
and the lowest it went to was 1.20 - 1.28

p/s: ASIATIC worth looking at, too, if it goes down to 8.00 and below

Currently, it is still a 50% technical rebound since after GE result of 100 points drop.

I find strange about today market as well, volume suddenly dipping back to low one. There is no follow through action after last few days of surge suggests a purely window dressing, I might be wrong.

NEW YORK (AP) -- While Wall Street faces the biggest overhaul of its regulatory structure since the Great Depression, analysts are already wondering if the plan to be announced by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson on Monday would help prevent the kind of risky investments that led to the near-collapse of Bear Stearns Cos.

Not a good sign, nor tsunami is coming, just my taught. Just think it is too early or pre-mature to say the down trend has finished already.
I would think market will be range bound for sometimes.

Falling more doesn't mean it has potential to go higher more. <-- this analogy sometimes people find hard to understand one. If it is true, then Transmile is better choice, drop from 14 to now 2 only. Just joking, no offence.

Instead should look on its potential to go higher due to fundamental reasons or 'goreng' reason if one likes that's still fine or make sense. But not because of it drop so much. smile.gif

panasonic88,

Why do you think MAHSING is a good stock?? I do not think so. It is DEFINITELY not something that you can go to sleep on. I checked out on Aman Perdana project in Klang. I do not think it is doing that well.

Hi dreamer, what makes you uneasy about mahsing? Based on Aman Perdana? Or are there any other factors?
