hai everyone, should call u guys expert...

I bought my i780 and decided to sell it offhere . however so far, I can't get good price, and better I learn something from you guys. Few question and hopefully you can assist me

1. How I can use the GPS, no program indicate on how to use the GPS
2. What good software to be install? i.e games, productivity tools and most importantly, how to install?
3. How to backup our data etc... (any software similar to Nokia phone backup, i'm used to Nokia)
4. Best software to snyc with the phone. I tried ActiveSnyc, normally, it will say device not connected, when connected, always hang when I want to explore....

pls direct me if this is not the correct thread. Very new here...

1. must install middleware progs like GPSGate 2.0 or Port Splitter. Then, find gps progs like MapKing
2. SKTools, Resco Explorer & Photo Viewer Pro. How to install? got a PC rite? download & install aje...but some progs require ActiveSync on PC first.
3. outlook sync for contacts, to-do, calendar. for sms, use easyhelper contact+sms backup (my personal fav). or to backup entirely, use SPB
4. activesync must be corrupted. try reinstalling. else, better send your i780 to samsung for check-up. might as well upgrade to win6.1 at same time. looove the sms thread, juz like InstantMessaging

which shop u bought from? if from pdaexpert, they'll reinstall any progs w/o charge. great service from these fellas!

Added on January 6, 2009, 7:11 pmthere's another nifty method. a hack into samsung's hidden menu. if screw up something, jus revert to default settings. now, my sammy can match nokia's loudness...yee-har!!

try the following;
press *#0002*28346#
in menu, choose Normal, then Handset. change SPK to 0db, apply, back, exit.

in fact, it can even make speakerphone, bluetooth h/set, mic louder! just play around for your preferred loudness...

upgrading to wm6.1 alone isn't enuf to activate sms threading. u must first install resco explorer so u can edit registry. then, do the following;
go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\SMSInbo xThreadingDisabled=0
U need to edit the registry as above. Restart the phone and it'll change.

As for reading chinese character, dload attachment & do the following;
1. Copy the "sunglobePatched.cab" to your device and click on it. Do install it in your device NOT storage!
3. Soft reset your device to activate the new chinese font.

This is much less space-taking & serves ppl that doesn't want to install big progs like CEStar.

And yes, installed GPS gate and map king (FG low yat). IT works beautifully. Syncing is not issue anymore. Samsung FMG offers official win6.1 upgrade?

i did my upgrd to win6.1 at samsung summit usj, free. some forummers claimed they stopped due to some reasons. u better call up to confirm 1st.

xda forummers found the path to download the official WM6.1 ROM from SAMSUNG and you can upgrade it by yourself...

any of you have upgrade to 6.1 having any instability issue?
I went to Melaka SC, they told me that the currnet version is not good enough in terms of stability.
wm 6 sms mode. we cannot directly sms name where it is put under contact "assistant" . we can only choose the phone no under "mobile phone".
I wonder if WM6.1 can let us write the name directly in the sms if we type the "assistant" name?

I'm using the PDXHL2 ROM (WM 6.1) with my phone now by upgrading using the path posted above and it's pretty stable and fast.
The official WM 6.1 released by the SAMSUNG FMG here is still on the version PDXHI2 (this version is older than the PDXHL2) and the HI2 ROM is also pretty stable when I used it last time.
The only problem I've got with the HI2 ROM is that it's not able to view Chinese character. HL2 ROM released has fixed this issue.

On your question contact 'assistant', may I know what are you referring to?

Are you referring to when you create a new SMS, you want to type the name in the 'To' column and a list of matched name from your contact list pop up. If you're referring to this, then HL2 ROM have no issue on this and I remembered that HI2 ROM is also okay with this function.

L2 ROM has only one bugs, i.e. wake-up from sleep mode will auto-connect to WiFi. The rest is working fine.

hmm... strange as i don't encounter this issue on my phone running the L2 ROM...

It happens once in a while...randomly...

Anyways...I've been testing the cooked ROM created by Mascian.... It's tip-top so far...refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476029

Dear Samsung i780 users, any of you guys encountered improper display of resolution due to the i780 320x320 resolution. I ran MAPKING and image is distorted

interested in what version ur using?...my rom is DXHA1..!!!care to recommend?

The latest modded ROM is DXHL2...if u have A1... that's the very first stock ROM... but if u found it stable and reliable, don't upgrade...i believe A1 ROM got WiFi problem...

Added on February 8, 2009, 11:32 pmYes. Definitely MapKing is not i780 display-friendly... Furthermore, u need PortSplitter to make MapKing lock the satellite. Try Garmin MXT or iGO8.

Had this phone for few months already. Only thing that bother me is the battery life. Other than that, this phone serve me good

remember ur second battery included in the box...? Use it...

The unit will consume a lot of power when in GPS mode. So, get a car charger if u use GPS...

The unit will consume a lot of power when in WiFi mode. So, use WiFi when no 3G coverage...if no 3G, cannot help...
