The latest modded ROM is DXHL2...if u have A1... that's the very first stock ROM... but if u found it stable and reliable, don't upgrade...i believe A1 ROM got WiFi problem...

Yes. Definitely MapKing is not i780 display-friendly... Furthermore, u need PortSplitter to make MapKing lock the satellite. Try Garmin MXT or iGO8.

I'm still using the A1 stock ROM. It's perfectly fine, only has some minor issue like low batt (<30%) can't read SD card smile.gif

Quite disappoint with Samsung Melaka Technician. When I told him it was not upgradable through Samsung Website, he ask me to surf internet myself to upgrade to WM6.1.

I wonder if upgraded to wM6.1, how is the battery life?
My concern is to solve the problems:
1. connected to wifi when MSN, current version keeps activating GPRS or 3G,
2. like a member said. WM6.1 shuld solve the problem if I wanted to sms a person whose name is stored under assistant.

Hi all,

I have a problem with my i780 after upgraded to "The original and offical full PDXHL2 package (EBOOT/PHONE/PDA). The battery drain off within 12 hours even with my spare battery. My phone was warm all the time even I didn't open any application.

I suspect it was something wrong with the new ROM. So I flash it back to old ROM cooked by EFN (128dpi Ultimate) the problem still persists.

The phone was fully charged not even 2 hour my battery left about 70% now.

Should I send for warranty? I afraid samsung distributor will void my warranty.

Appreciate if someone could help me on this.

Thanks!!!

Hi dgtel2,
I do read your posts sharing your experience at ppcsg and xda-developers besides here and I believed you are the right person to ask the following questions. I am new to ROM flashing and currently very 'itchy' to try the latest version for my i780 WM 6.0. Before that, really appreciate if you could clear some of my doubts:

1. My current version is i780DXHD1. If there is something happened half way and I want to revert back to this original ROM, is it still possible and where to find and how to do it?

2. Can I backup my whole system by using program such as sprite backup and after flashed, restore back using sprite also so that I have exactly the same settings, except the updated ROM? To reinstall everything might really frighten me off :-)

3. There are 2 methods that I am considering, first is using the upgrader.exe link posted earlier and the second one would be mascian's eXtreme 96 DPI 16 Mb Page Pool (.bin file which I have yet to figure out how to apply), with the latter being my preferred choice. Do you think this is a good choice?

4. Finally to me the most important programs are Pocket Informant 8 and Garmin. (Thanks to the helpful ppl here). If the answer for my second question is not possible, is there any easy way out to keep these 2 programs intact after flash?

Thank you very much in advance.

not really.. mine is perfectly fine... those problems usually arise from running those "unofficial" home-brew firmware

1. "Something" happened halfway could brick ur unit. So, go update to Samsung Service Centre. One in PJ (near Avon Federal Highway). The other is in the Summit USJ. But of u're not from Klang Valley region, u need to hunt around for the authorised Samsung Service Centre. There are stock ROM available in the XDA Dev forum. You need to hunt them. Once you have succesfully upgraded to newer ROM, you will not be able to revert back to olf ROM unless u have the ROM and Mirage Updater in your hands. I even face a problem with cooked ROM, and I can always revert back to official ROM without negative effects to my unit. So do at your own risk. I really recommend you to go to authorised Samsung Service Centre for ROM upgrading.

2. Once flashed, you will loose everything. Sprite Backup may not 100% recover your settings and applications, thus, making ur unit unstable. I always reinstall all my fav. apps. all over again.

3. I would suggest u try the official .exe upgrader (DXHL2 ROM). Personally, I hate the 96DPI ROM. It makes the fonts smaller and not touch finger-friendly. 96DPI adopting RealVGA app which tends to make ur unit become unstable (after some time) and incompatible with certain software.

4. Nope. Any settings or software will be deleted after flashed. Even if u install Garmin in the SD Card location, u will still need to create the link manually to ensure launching from start menu.

I am getting addicted flashing my unit regularly. Some of the cooked ROM is reliable and some are not. It's kind of my hobby now to hunt for the best ROM for i780 (ASEAN version). Of course I always keep my stock ROM in case anything happen to it. So, flash at your own risk. If you have backup handset, flashing is fun. Anything happen, dump ur SIM to backup phone.
