i dont know about Peace drums as i never get a chance to play them. As for PDP, i love the drum built, the finishes, and most importantly the sound. But their hardware, (hihat stand, kick pedal and cymbal stand) seriously need a better attention. Its hard to operate and its clearly using low quality material. Unlike Pearl hardware which is very smooth and easy to operate.

its not about expensive or showing off(maybe showing off a little laa tongue.gif ),but the
satisfaction of having and playing in a quality drum kit is beyond everything.
trust me when u already buy your kit and start exploring it, u will hunger for quality
rather than quantity.

but i like the way u think, starts from bottom going up...its easier to learn, u will be
more expose, if i didn't bought my first crappy kit, i think i will not gain any exposure
coz when we start with small stuff, we will automatically seeking bigger, advance and
quality stuff. just my 2 kupang.

good luck on your search and do update us on what u discover.

yup, pdp comes with crappy hardware. but the higher ends ones should come with better hardware, its the entry lvls that comes with the unbelievably thin stands n squeaking hihat stand. lol.

why dont you go with gretsch? i would encourage you to buy a good kit, and for starters, just get hold of any cheap cymbals that you can. and once you realize that it sounds crappy, then u can start thinking to change your cymbals.

thats exactly what i said!
i recommended him the gretsch catalina jazz kit! that drumset is AWESOME...

hmm this threads quite active...

The tama imperialstar is a good drumset too... its not as good as the export but its 750 bucks cheaper and it basically has alot of the same... poplar shells, precise bearing edges, pretty good hardware and wrapped shells..... except the snare is steel and not poplar and it doesnt have the SST shell heat molding thing or the ISS mounts of course... but it comes with mostly the same thingss....

plus with the extra 750 bucks you could get zildjian ZHT's or Sabian XS20's wink.gif or maybe meinl's

other than sabian, paiste and zildjian... check out meinl, the MCS cymbals look good... they have them at DoReMi music!
=D

Added on April 11, 2008, 5:04 pmoh yeah and i'll add that since the export is discontinued and is the worlds most best-selling drums of all time, and this is the last model they produced (for now) in twenty years it could be a collectors item!

beat spot can discount but not even reach 10%. try ls music (yamaha melawati, ampang, kajang, putrajaya). they can give better discount for cymbals.

ls music is yamaha shop (yamaha melawati, ampang, kajang, putrajaya) they are under LS Music. they are under different management from yamaha music or beat spot. and they do carry sabian cymbals. maybe some wuhan.

owhh.. so they're really not a Yamaha shop? Ive been to Ampang Point, Alamanda, KL Plaza (now close alrdy), Subang Jaya, and the latest one is Mid Valley. For me, the new Yamaha shop at MidValley has the best stuffs. Last time i went there they got some signature snares such as Elvin Jones but its really expensive!!!! The Ampang Point once got Yamaha Oak Custom which cost near 10K for a 5 piece set.. not sure snare is included.. Yamaha makes a decent drumsets but they are price is waaaayyy too high.

they are yamaha. but under different management. if you observe the things in their shop, u can tell the difference. for example, drums, some ls music have other brands like trapts, maxtone or peavey and for cymbals, they have headliner brass, some wuhan, and staggs too. but yamaha music only carries yamaha drums and sabian cymbals. midvalley is beatspot which is under yamaha music. the headquarters is in kelana jaya and its sure is nicer since its newer and the things there are still new. hehe. never been to beatspot curve tho. hows the drum section there?
