What can I say about Streamyx? I am trying to think of something good but..... OK I get 386 kbs download from a connection which is capped at 3mb, but I am not going to complain about that.
After three years with Streamyx I have finally come to the realisation that if it works at all, just accept it and hobble down the IT highway as best you can, but don't try to get clever like I did. I have two phone lines so I thought why not a second StreamyX connection for the other family members?
Good Idea - right, so as my New years resolution I signed up for a second account, paid them if full, bought a new modem/Router and tried to connect with the user name and passwords give but alas, no joy.
Reluctantly I dialed 100 and got onto the ever so er... uh... helpful(?) streamyx phone tender and was put through the streamyx dance ( you know the one I mean, Is your ADSL light blinking? is your phone line connected to the modem, have you removed the splitter, have you installed the splitter, etc etc etc and after doing their dance for about twenty minutes they finally said that they would send someone over, The someone arrived, scratched his head a bit said he saw nothing wrong, then went away and filed a report stating that my modem was bad, now this was in January 2008 and I have been repeating this (or a similar scene) twice a month since then but nothing worked - no connection period.
Sorry I lie, the one thing that did work was their billing system which without fail sent me a bill every month since January and fool that I am I paid them.
My daughter found this amusing and wrote a nice little piece about it in
Her blog. For those of you who don't know what to expect when calling the Streamx "help" desk it should be required reading. I especially liked bit about

Now I am not exactly technologically challenged, having an engineering degree, having been using computers for twenty years, building my own PCs so as to get better machines, and making my living online, but the streamyx help desk defeats me every time.
No use trying to reason with them, so finally day before yesterday I picked up the machine and modem and carried them over to my favorite computer shop and asked them to connect using their streamyx line with my login - Surprise Surprise - we were connected in about 5 seconds with a nice stable connection.
Thinking (mistakenly) that I now had proof positive that they should send some one to the local TM central office instead of stop sending smelly techs over to probe the innards of my system I once again called the dreaded 100 number - and of course I got the now standard response that for only RM88 they would send a tech over (yet again!) to check it out, but after a loooooooong time I finally was abe to talk to a supervisor who seemed to understand that if the computer/modem/setup combination worked in one place but not another it might not be a computer or modem fault, and said that he would do the necessary.
Lo and Behold not an hour later I got a call from someone who actually knew a bit about ADSL and promised that he would have the Dslam ports and cappings looked at before Monday . Ahh at long last and it only took seven months!
Wrong! I just got a call from one of Streamx's breathy girly girlies who wanted to know... is your dsl light blinking? ... can you please uninstall the splitter...etc etc
Arrrrgggghhhhh.
