I bought an item from an online shop in the US a few days ago. Today the Pos Malaysia people called me to say the item kena tahan at customs, and I will be receiving a letter with some options on it on what I want to do.

The thing is that I need the item urgently, so preferably I don't want to wait for the letter to arrive at my house (Tuesday afternoon at the earliest).

I have:

1) The item tracking number
2) Invoice of the purchase from the online shop
3) A reference number from Pos Malaysia (looks like E5XXXX)

Without the letter, and with just this information, can I go to KLIA to retrieve the item? If yes, can somebody please tell me where exactly in KLIA I have to go to get the item?

Thanks!

Rudi

Added on March 16, 2008, 7:34 pmBy the way, I bought some microphones, value about US$180. If anyone knows what the taxable amount is, that would be helpful as well. If not don't worry, it's a business expense anyway. What's more important is that I get it urgently.

Thanks!

Not sure can retrive without letter or not. But i can guide u the location.

It is just located beside LCCT. You will see a building with "POS MALASIA". This is the building and the bloody kastam tahan ur thing

walking distance = 5 minutes from LCCT

Best way is go on friday which around before "sembahyang" time...
Then definitely u can get "cheaper" tax

Thanks all.

Just to update, managed to get the item by going straight to the customs office at the Pos Malaysia centre next to the LCCT at KLIA.

I didn't have the letter, but they managed to locate the item when I gave them all the details and proof of identity. When I got back the PosLaju letter from them was already in my post box (Monday), so you get the letter on the next day, even if they call you on Sunday.

The item was a Sennheiser headset microphone and a USB microphone pod (high quality for speech recognition purposes). Taxable amount was the total purchase value (including shipping costs), which was RM679. They taxed me RM67 (10%), along with the RM18 fixed processing fee that you pay to the post office.

No trouble with asking for duit kopi from anyone or anything like that.

Hope this info helps people in a similar situation.

In fact you don't have to go there the clear your stuff. You can appoint Pos Malaysia to be your forwarding agent to do all the processing and have the item sent to your doorstep. Sometime if you're lucky, the Custom won't hold your item and you'll get your item directly thru post without having to pay any extra.

Anyway, it's good for those that never experienced the custom clearing procedures to go there for self-clearance, provided they can travel to LCCT conveniently. I've been there for two times to clear my stuffs, quite enough for me already. Now lazy to go there anymore, just appoint Pos Malaysia and do the rest for me tongue.gif

Yeah I know, but I needed the item urgently. Which is why I went straight away (didn't even wait for the letter to come).

Also, I read somewhere that engaging Pos Malaysia as the forwarding agent will cost you around RM50?
