i'm still trying to work out for this journey schedule. thanks for your kindly helps here.. notworthy.gif

do anyone know where should i end my plus highway, if i'd like to drive to penang through ferry? after tat, to go ferry terminal which directory should i heading to.  btw i am from KL.
*
You still end at the regular toll - Juru Toll Plaza.
Instead of following the sign for Pg Bridge you just follow the signs to Butterworth - Exit left at Megamall on to Jalan Besar, straight to the new Highway, Lingkaran Luar Butterworth. Better you Google for the map. The directional signs are VERY BAD! wink.gif

Hi all,
I'm looking for Penang beach hotel which provide private BBQ Facilities.
The team wants to grill with their own raw meat.. don't want hotel one... very lousy..  sweat.gif
And they want beach so they can play.. very childish...  shakehead.gif

Can anyone recommend them to me, that is if there's any...  smile.gif
Thanks
*
All hotel along the Batu Feringgi have BBQ Facilities but due to health & hygiene reason they are unable to let their guest grill their own.
They also organize beach games, provided the necessary apparatus/facilities and the clean-up for you and your team. After all the play play, I doubt your team wants to do the washing & clean up. laugh.gif

There are a few guest house but they are not located along the beach.

Take Bus - Aeroline from 1Utama or Nice from KTM. Faster and cheaper. KL to Pg Island average time by bus should be 4 hours. From the bus depot you can take a cab to your accommodations.
Accommodation? What kind and budget?

You can have a look with B-Suite, Penang. The location is quite strategic. The studio suite is also quite big enough with reasonable price.

Not if you dun have your own transport.

Noted.
My budget for accomodation - about RM100/night or something like Tune Hotels.
Is Tune Hotel location good?

What tourist usually do in Penang? I've check the Wiki Travel. Nothing much.
*
What does good location means to you?
Convenient to shopping or places of historical interest or near to public transport or near to Penang Hawker food?
Do you need halal food?

Tourist come to Penang to unwind, sleep on the beach, walk the historical heritage trail or hike up the hills near botanical gardens, visit Chinese temples, old Mosque, see snakes, butterfly and insects. Sample the local food and culture.
What is your poison? hmm.gif

Wow. Thanks for the site.

Just curious,

Is it worth to use Firefly via Subang Airport to Penang? How much is it from Penang Airport to the City Centre?
*
No idea cos always got people to pick me up.
Many many moons ago it cos about RM25, but now dunno, btw here Penang taxis all very expensive(much more compare to KL) and not using meter!!! sweat.gif sweat.gif
Better take the bus - Nice or Aeroline. Money save can spend more here. laugh.gif

There are many genuine backpackers hotel and lodging but do be careful & check if it is 'ayam' place or not, before you commit.

Wow you are good la. Till today, I'm NOT familiar with the public transportation routes here even though I had commute by bus during my schooldays and is currently a resident of Pg.

Backpacker tends to go for the local food and cultural stuff at a slow savory pace.

Your itinerary sound just about right. And after spending a night on the Batu Ferringgi beach, you can visit the nearby fruit farms, Butterfly/insect farms or the Taman Rimba or take a hike to Muka head and return by boat whilst watching the sun set.

You can also visit the Traditional Malay Kampong at Sg Rusa or take a bus to Balik Pulau Market for Laksa and fresh Buah Pala Juice.

From there, on the way back drop by the Snake temple.

i'm attending a course for 4 days in penang in July. it will be held in evergreen.
my budget for hotel room is between rm150 to rm180. max is rm200 (have to top up with own money)
i called G hotel, northam, Gurney Hotel n evergreen n found that their rates are above my budget.

is there any nearby hotel within my budget?
walking distance is ok, i don't mind.
during nights and weekend, i would like to do some touristy stuff like shopping for local items and eat popular street food.

i have read all posts in this thread and unfortunately, i'm not sure which hotel to stay.
pls help. thanks  notworthy.gif

Other than GoodHope Inn 04-229 0111, there are no other Hotel nearby that I can think of that's nearby your course.
The organizer of your course should have a better deal with Evergreen for its participants to stay!

HI to all.. Currently plan hav a trip to penang..there are few things i wanna ask..

1st: drive to penang better or take bus?? ( i located in KL but i dono the way in penang.. the only things i can use is gps in my phone...)
2nd: stay in island or mainland better?? ( I looking a very famous church[ sorry i dono the name] hope can find ppl share with me, by the way that is an Catholic Church)
3rd: any famous places intro to me ?? (i not look into shopping, some place or historical places)
4th: foods intro?? and where the location..

thx for ur information...
*
Better drive to Penang with friends who can drive also. Less stressful, take turns drive and help navigate.
Stay on the Island cos got more to see and do.
On the island got so many famous Catholic Church. On the mainland got St Anne that I know of.
If you are not into shopping, some place or historical places, you need to specify EXACTLY what you're into.
Food? Street food? halal or not...etc?

Hi ya, ok la Hotel Royal, behind the hotel, there is a coffeeshop.
In the morning, got famous Hokkein Mee, Indian laksa, Wan Tan Mee...etc.
Do go early or else got to wait very long or worse finish!

In the evening behind, along Nagor Road have lots of eateries. For those on a tight budget, there is a cheap and good BBQ steamboat Buffet, where its guest are spilling out on to the pavement. laugh.gif

BUT Hotel Royal is far from Gurney Drive.

Berjaya Georgetown Hotel in Midlands. Walking distance to gurney.
Yes, it is near to Gurney drive but...
To far to walk to attend a course in Evergreen Hotel. By the time you reached, so sweaty and tried!
This is not like an evening walk where the sea breeze is cool and comfortable.

Buy a good GPS navigator?

Pit Stop along the way? How about the expensive Pun Chun Noodle shop at Bidor?

heheh, really lots development in penang since my last year trip.

Itenary for Ang Moh family will hav me do away all the nice mall and spices in food.

Ferry, Kek Lok Si, Penang Hill, Toy Museum, Balik Pulau Fruit Farm, Batu Feringgi, Gurney Drive.

Food wise they will like cendols; asam laksa.. hmm no guarantee they can stand the soury & spicy, but definately I will eat a big bowl. Dimsum in morning is a good try; they may like kuetiaw goreng too. Ang Moh not so adventurous on food like us!
*
Dun under estimate these Ang Moh. Better you clarify with them about the food choices and allergies, First, instead of ASS'u'ME.
My Ang Moh friend, 72 years old, just visited me and wants spicy food! No fake Asian food like they have back in their country.
The only food he dun wan is Fish cos he is old and can't afford to have a bone stuck in his throat!

QUOTE(subrok007 @ Jun 7 2010, 03:24 PM)
let me update some penang tips here..

sooner the latest shopping mall opening - 1st Avenue with TGV cinema....

can try asam laksa near along way to gurney there... ... in front of Penang Chinese Girls High School... very nice than kek lok si there...

Queensbay mall is a place must go... almost high class rating shopping mall in penang i can said..

at night u all can go padang kota lama near port.... eat various fruit... delicious...

oh ya times square ady opening... but sad is little shop opening there..
*
You know the opening date for 1st Avenue? will it become like the KL 1st Avenue?

I like the Laksa in front of Penang Chinese Girls High School but must eat it with their fried spring roll!

High class is Gurney Plaza la. QB is ok ok nia. Times Sq is dying! Roll bowling ball also can't hit anybody on a weekend! sweat.gif
