QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Mar 5 2008, 12:31 AM) @chrono_breaks, tink, chrono_breaks, I bought my MBP in the US, not in Malaysia. US$1536 after rebate. I'm not sure where you can get that kind of pricing in Malaysia...I read earlier on a thread a forumer (tishaban) ordered his MBP last night cause he found the price toOOo hard to resist Added on March 5, 2008, 8:25 am QUOTE(pigduck @ Mar 5 2008, 12:25 AM) pigduck, you can write to Apple etc. to get the ownership transferred. It's in the fine print in the manual/AppleCare legal page that none of us ever read. Also, this is true for other manufacturers as well, my own personal experience is with HP. Ownership of a piece of hardware is never permanently owned by the buyer only. This post has been edited by tishaban: Mar 5 2008, 08:25 AM |

@tishaban,
oOpSs.. oKies dokieSs.. I'm definitely gonna have a date with that new baby of urs when it gets here @pigduck, U shouldn't blame ur folks for not wanting to get u a Mac - most people (at least from my perception) is thinking of getting a Mac only because it makes them look cool and that's really not a good enough reason to convince the folks to get it for u, IMHO. |

Here's my Mac buying steps:
1) Look at my requirement. 2) List down which Mac meet the requirement 3) Get my max budget allowed 4) Minus 10% out from budget 5) Get the best Mac (from step #2) that fit in my budget (step #4) 6) Check the Mac cycle date 7) Check for stock 8) Make the purchase Reason for #4 is to have some extra for accessories and add-on. Reason for #6 is to makesure no new model coming next week. After purchase, stop winding about newer model, cheaper price or what so ever. There's always a better deal and better mac coming. One should live up and get the best from what they already have. Not wasting time on what they don't have. This post has been edited by wei: Mar 5 2008, 10:30 AM |

@pigduck,
Er... Ur family thinks the Mac's an expensive TOY?! Er.. well, I think it is too. Can't believe some people actually see a personal notebook as a TOY! Also, I thought most people preferred 'foreign' - am surprised to hear they think foreign's no good? *shrugs* Do U all drive Proton and Perodua cars only?! @wei, *high5* I so TOTALLY agree with U. I haven't been keeping up with the Mac updates; AFAIK I'm satisfied with my baby here and that's what counts.. plus it helps get the work done ! |

Check here: www.apple-history.com look at the date of release & date of replacement at the bottom part of each model.
Have a brief comparison on how often & when the Mac model get revision/update. Let's say an iPod get update every 6-9months for the past 2 years. Macbook is around 6months +-. There's a definitive pattern of how Apple revise their product. That's what I'm referring to Mac cycle. If you know that the Mac Model was released 6months ago, it's very likely to get update very soon. So it's not wise to buy during that time. But currently most Mac model are up to date except iMac & Mac Mini. |

@pigduck,
oOooOh... hence Ur facing the issue of 'migration' into something new? Well, it's just comfort zone but frankly speaking, it's seriously NOT difficult to use a Mac; I probably had the same considerations as ur folks before I switched to this MBP - check out the stuff I was worried about before the switch - Windows to MAC - Should I?, Seeking opinion & counsel And... Good luck in convincing the folks This post has been edited by tinkerbel: Mar 5 2008, 12:23 PM |

@pigduck,
Even if that's the truth, come up with more substantial reasons for wanting a Mac |

Your post ought to be be stickied on top of the Apple Byte section :-)QUOTE(wei @ Mar 5 2008, 11:17 AM) Check here: www.apple-history.com look at the date of release & date of replacement at the bottom part of each model. Yup, definitely good to check product cycles before committing to a purchase, at least you'd know that you're making an informed decision. The website I always refer to and consider very good is http://www.macrumors.com/buyersguide/. They provide a graphical representation of product releases, and give recommendations based on the average life cycle of past releases. Links to articles (both confirmed & rumors) relevant to the products listed are provided as well.Have a brief comparison on how often & when the Mac model get revision/update.
