Since Apple announced the new updates (using Penryn processor) the current available MBs are going off at a discounted price [and quite a heavy discount too!] so do check with the outlets before U go ahead and get suckered into purchasing something that's 'used' and uhm... well, pricey!

Of course ownership is transferable. All u need to do is just contact them and change the name, and if u don't like the name that he's put on the Mac HD, just do a total reformat/reinstall and voila... brand new

I suppose if it's in good condition, 3.7k is oK kua - as a forumer mentioned, it's really up to how much u want to spend and what u think is worth. If u like it, just get it if it's within ur price range

U shouldn't blame ur folks for not wanting to get u a Mac - most people (at least from my perception) is thinking of getting a Mac only because it makes them look cool and that's really not a good enough reason to convince the folks to get it for u, IMHO.

Er... Ur family thinks the Mac's an expensive TOY?! Er.. well, I think it is too. Can't believe some people actually see a personal notebook as a TOY!

Also, I thought most people preferred 'foreign' - am surprised to hear they think foreign's no good? *shrugs* Do U all drive Proton and Perodua cars only?!

I so TOTALLY agree with U. I haven't been keeping up with the Mac updates; AFAIK I'm satisfied with my baby here and that's what counts.. plus it helps get the work done !

oOooOh... hence Ur facing the issue of 'migration' into something new? Well, it's just comfort zone but frankly speaking, it's seriously NOT difficult to use a Mac; I probably had the same considerations as ur folks before I switched to this MBP - check out the stuff I was worried about before the switch - Windows to MAC - Should I?, Seeking opinion & counsel
