I have the PS3 as the center of my HD Home theater set up
However, I'm quite dissapointed that it cannot bitstream out Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA. Hmm. |

Honestly, the upcoming Sony BDP-S350 player will be value for money at USD400, lets hope it sells for thousand plus in Malaysia and not RM2,999 like the current, BDP-S300 model here. Hmm. i guess one has to upgrade the receiver to a newer model to support these new audio formats rite? hmmm....non-stop upgrade...maybe for now i'll just stick to my dd5.1 and dts...hehe |

They're lucky, if we have those parallel imports, I guess Sony Malaysia won't be overpricing their products here. Like handphones, if without AP sets, the Ori prices won't be that reasonable. QUOTE(apisgogo @ Mar 4 2008, 08:32 PM) yes, and one of them is me! haha what if im by circumstance C), by vanity A) but by interest D. D) being i like to "kick, kill, blowup & drive over innocent bystanders kindaguy" - gaming la ofcos i wouldn't say PS3 is the best valued BD player out there because of its entirely depends on your situation: a) "I-just-wanted-my-movies-to-look-damn-nice-on-my-new-hdtv kinda guy" then PS3 will become the best value yet. Price of RM1300-1400 is the cheapest blu-ray player available in M'sia. This valid because this person may not consider HD audios (DTS HD MA & DD TrueHD) to be decoded or make important. b) "Im-a-audioholics-with-a-lot-of-green kinda guy" then PS3 might not be the best player yet. Because you wants all the HD audios to be decodes by your receiver. To do this u need a bitstreaming capable player. There is a rumor news that PS3 able to bitstream these HD audios, but not confirmed yet. c) "Im-a-audioholics-with-short-of-green kinda guy" then PS3 will may be or not become best player. It entirely depends on your hardware. you may need receiver that has the capability of accepting & processing PCM sources from the BD player. In this case, BD player must have the capability of decoding HD audios internally and output it as PCM; PS3 is the best bet and best value and also easily available in our beloved country. But mind you, PS3 only capable of outputting DD TrueHD as PCM; DTS HD MA only gods and sony knows when. sorry for the lame reply. I use this formula to get started in HD worlds i guess to me, the PS3 is the mother of budget bluray! - its the BOMB now if it can only be mod'd to ahhh...hemmm... QUOTE(sunauto @ Mar 4 2008, 10:37 PM) anychance Xbox is selling more cos its mod'able for homebrews..... ps:i mite be wrong here guys but based on history & esp that Bluray is king, prices will start to do the Titanic-2step-dive once more mfgrs get into the game. With a profile of 1.1, I think Panasonic DMP-BD30 is a good buy.

QUOTE(eddie_lim @ Mar 4 2008, 03:01 PM) Here's something to share, sony has announced two profile 2.0 standalone BD players with the same price as the PS3 models but the standalone players have MULTIPLE high end features that the PS3 does not have. "PS3 being the best BD player on the market" will be a thing of the past soon recently surveying for a HD player, but now after all the HD-DVD format obsolete, blueray has finally win the battle and make me considering buying a new BD player. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUjRn_MAW8c after watching this youtube, i'm considering buying PS3 for blueray purpose, is the only player that can firmware upgradable to blueray profile 2.0 or future profile. if you spend RM3999 for Sony Blueray Player, why don't you buy a RM1xxx PS3 with 40G 60G hardisk inside. just my 2 cent. peace! |
