PS3 is not officially confirmed as a Profile 2.0 player yet, you won't know about it until the next firmware update but honestly, the PS3 can't even stack up again some standalone blu-ray players as the standalone players have dedicated DACs for video and audio whereas the PS3 is a software player, the standalone players are more pricier for a reason.

This explains why XBOX 360 is selling more games than PS3. laugh.gif

I have the PS3 as the center of my HD Home theater set up

However, I'm quite dissapointed that it cannot bitstream out Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA.

Hmm.

It's a gaming console at heart, it's not meant to replace a standalone BD player. Honestly, the upcoming Sony BDP-S350 player will be value for money at USD400, lets hope it sells for thousand plus in Malaysia and not RM2,999 like the current, BDP-S300 model here. doh.gif

typical trend in malaysia to sell AV gear high prices instead of realistic global pricing.. wat to do, got people buy mah..

Added on March 5, 2008, 1:05 pm

after hearing DTS-HD or LPCM or TrueHD, DD just won't cut it anymore.. even on a low end Aego 2.1 there is a remarkable difference...

They're lucky, if we have those parallel imports, I guess Sony Malaysia won't be overpricing their products here. Like handphones, if without AP sets, the Ori prices won't be that reasonable. Lets home that there are more parallel imports to flood the market so that we can get better bargains.

is the DVD upscalling quality better on the PS3 better compare to normal dvd player ?
what is the price for the PS3 now? if buy now will it be possible to modify later when ahem blue ray game out?  brows.gif
*
Aiyo ...... why you always think of pirate games aje, buy a second hand one lah, here got many ppl selling original used games, the price is quite reasonable. A blank blu-ray disc is RM80 like dat, you think you're going to pay that amount for a pirate game? tongue.gif

QUOTE(megatron007 @ Mar 6 2008, 08:30 AM)
cannot be so fast gua .... but early stage the price i pressume is 50% off some thing like 1k++

wont be like 200-300RM per player
*
If got also, the most Profile 1.0 player aje, Cap Ayam players normally are stripped down versions.

agree 100%.

at least decodes the HD audios internally and pass it our thru PCM HDMI.
*
If it could do both, that will even be better, via PCM or Bitstream. Hopefully, a new model will have such specs, you'll never know what Sony is up to.

Good advice biggrin.gif ....

but sadly... no way 2.0 profile player come in malaysia at tat price doh.gif

Honestly, 1.1 Profile is good enough if your main purpose is just to watch the BD movie, some interactive features might not appeal to some people.

Should be due to market forces, demand > supply = harga naik tongue.gif

nope - has nothing to do with supply and demand. Sony made it CLEAR on several occasions that BD is in the business of making money- LOTS OF MONEY while Toshiba was willing to sell players on the cheap to get money from HD DVD disk IP.
*
Don't forget that Sony invested millions in BD technology, excluding money to rasuah movie studios and also those adverts, they have to find a way to cover their costs. If their BD player with profile 2.0 can be priced around RM2K in Bolehland, I can still accept it but if they're asking RM4K for one strip down version BD player, I rather use my PS3 instead. laugh.gif

i doubt we will see 2.0 Sony players at >RM4K. why? CEs know Blu-ray will not take off in bolehland. So might as well as get more money from the rich wink.gif  cool2.gif  cool2.gif  Even toshiba E2 is still selling at RM2,499
*
Well, we have to wait until those Cap Ayam players from China to spoil the market then Sony plus other brands will start lowering their prices. That's the only way. I find it silly when blu-ray players are dirt cheap in the US whereas in Malaysia, the cheaper player is from Sharp at RM2,999. Of course, I know those who got 'kang tau' can get it for RM1,900 and the Sony S300 at RM2,800 instead of RM3,999.

The Toshiba E2 is only RM1,800 if you order it outside, don't look at the price from Normal Harvey, those are existing stocks, they're not willing to sell below cost. Toshiba Malaysia is clearing them and still giving 3 HD-DVD titles and Berjaya HVN are now selling RM69.90 for each HD-DVD ttile but very limited titles left. I just bought a few. The latest one is Evan Almighty I guess. Can't find any newer titles.

me ps3? nevah! my nick on other tech forums is xboxboi lol

i suggest PS3 to people who are into console gaming who also wants Blu-ray. tongue.gif
*
Aiyah, just get a PS3 lah, some PS3 games are starting to look better than XBOX 360 and besides that, XBOX 360 will never have a blu-ray drive b'coz of Sony, they wouldn't be donating $$$ to Sony for the blu-ray drive b'coz of the royalties thingy.

I do miss HD-DVD to be honest, it's a good format and I'm currently sapu-ing some titles from Amazon since it's kinda cheap now. Can't complain lah, at least in the US alone, there are around 585 HD-DVD titles to choose from, I guess that's way more than the LD titles back then. With the US dollar going down and Amazon slashing prices of HD-DVD titles, it's a good buy now. rclxms.gif

You mean you don't like a PS3 as a gaming console or as a blu-ray player? Or both?
