Just to share sum news with u guys. Koochee sprained her leg yesterday. I dun know whether she fell or tripped on sumthing.

Cheekoo he woke me up at 4.30am this morning. When i went to see wut its all about, Koochee was moving around with her hind left leg unmoved. I was so worried n was crying like mad. And brought her to sleep with me on the bed. *I remember Dr Jenny said, that a few cases, the joeys cannot even use their hind legs due to unsufficient nutrien. That kinda freaks me out so so much.*

Then at 9am i brought her to the vet and he gave me a pure calcium supplement to help reduce the 'bengkak'. She shud be ok in a few days.

I just need to restrict her movement a bit. Hope she'll recover then.

Anyway, thanks reanne for helping!

oh mannn!!is she ok??if it happened to dydy,i would hav cried my eyes out...do update us on her recovery yar... wink.gif

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Feb 27 2008, 09:07 PM)
That is instant rolled oats.... so no.... you can't use any oat that is instant coz it absorbs water very fast and can cause impaction and bloat. Get normal rolled oats. And you should only feed it very little. Not as a staple coz as said before, too much oats can cause impaction.
Hope Koochee gets better. As long you have brought her to the vet, then it is ok. My glider actually got her foot tangled before with string from an old pouch. It cut her blood circulation and I thought she would lose her leg. I quickly release the pressure by cutting the string. After a few minutes, the leg swelled up and she couldn't use that leg. It was lifeless and swollen. I restricted her movement, gave her more nutritious food and she recovered completely in 2 weeks.
What to do... messy mah hahahah....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went to PW at MidValley.... and I feel totally sorry for those 2 joeys for sale.

Price RM488, underage joey, looks like 5 weeks OOP. Poor thing is not strong enough to chew hard food. The staff there just left a large bowl of IAMS catfood. The display tank had a bright light on. The joeys only had a bowl with a piece of small cloth to hide from the light. There was a sorry piece of branch there, wood shavings as bedding and a hamster bottle of water.

What I do not like is that they are now providing a "Starter Kit" which is very ridiculous......

Critter Trail cage (If I remember correctly, it is the 2 storey one)
1 1kg pack of wood shavings
1 small bag of IAMS catfood.

What kinda Starter Kit is that? Sounds more like for hamster if it weren't for the catfood.... also, gliders should never take catfood as their staple! I'll post the picture I took later.

Hii I'm pre-ordering some Rep-Cal supplements from the US. And KP suggested that I pre-order the Green Label for sugar glider owners.

Just wondering if any of you are interested in the supplement or would know anyone else that would be. : )

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/638801

Maybe you could help me by pasting the link onto the sugar glider thread biggrin.gif

Thanks a lot. I'm trying to fill up the list so that LYN-ers could get their supplements ASAP.
*
Want to express my thanks to the many who are willing to take in these supplements to share with us. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
Not only my gliders are in need, my tortoise as well..
For my torts, they will need added Vit D3 for sure as Vit D3 is vital for the absorption of calcium. As for the gliders, should i purchase the calcium with or without added Vit D3 in this case, anyone who knows pls clarify that for me ..
Much thx.

Brickfields petshop.... I guess I know which one. Pity right? But that is how the petshops do their business.

About the free roaming thing. It is fine but it could become a habit where your glider will hate the cage. So don't always let her free roam. Give her some time in the cage. This is so that if one day you really really need her in the cage, dydy won't feel too stressed out being locked up.

Well, gliders can do without the Vit D3. You can still use the one with Vit D3 in it but it is much better to get the one without Vit D3 for gliders. Well, precaution loh.... anyway, you only need to use a very very very small pinch for your gliders each day.

I think spel'it, you are like me, should get hold of Rep-Cal.. and stuff for the gliders.. so to bid all the metabolic bone disease or whatever paralysis disease a good farewell..right? smile.gif

Hun, you mean these supplement like calcium and herptivite (multivitamin) must be given daily?
Then, i must have made a mistake, as i thought the interval of feeding these supplement is weekly.
Will giving it daily be too much? What you guys suggest?

That's the same petshop I was talking bout earlier. The one in Brickfields with lots of birds. Today while I was there buying crickets, an indian customer came in and frightened the African Grey by waving his hand very fast in front of it. The poor bird fell from it's perch and was flapping trying to save itself from hitting the ground while hanging from the short chain. Then the worker scooped the bird back onto the perch, then proceeded to laugh and talk to the customer while petting the bird like a dog.

Poor bird, that African Grey is still a chick, and it's life is already so horrible.

Sigh, petshop is like that. It was like the Petaling Street shop.... but they only have 3 gliders for sale there now so not as bad as when they had 200 for sale. Really pitiful....

dydy asking for attention loh.... coz she is a single glider, she got no friends to play with. Nocturnal, gliders are active around 3am or 4am onwards, so I guess dydy just wanna have some fun with you.

Well, the herptivite you can feed once every 2 days.... but the calcium, we mostly feed everyday. But the amount is very little. First, you use your thumb and finger to take a pinch of that powder, then you take that amount and divide to half. The half amount is good for 2 gliders.

Some people mix the calcium into a glider mix....

Right now, i'm in the midst of multi-tasking. One hand browsing the forums, on the other hand bonding with my cute and lovely critters..
What to do, always short of time...
Initially, i took the male MengZai out, then i took a fleeting look at the cage and saw LaiLai was looking so enviously..
Later, i let the male returned to the cage, and guess what..
As promptly as i opened the door, she just dashed out with patagium wide spreaded, and flown like a batman girl..
What concerned me was that she fell hard on the ground..OUCH!
I quickly grabbed her up and sayang her.. she's quite nakal and wants attention.

I'm moved by the loving care that you display towards Cheekoo. Quiet and comfort her by holding her close to your heart, feeding her with the right nourishment such as Lactose Free Milk and calcium suplement in midnight, trimming her nails as precaution. Seeking the right vet as soon morning breaks..
I'm touched by the compassion and love you shown for your lil critter.. exemplifying a good model to me.
Update us on her development of her leg and hope for speedy recovery soon.

Just a lil update on Koochee. I separate her from Cheekoo for the time being. I put her in a box so that she cannot climb up n fell yet again. But doesnt mean she didnt try! But i put her near to Cheekoo cage so that both of them wont be lonely. They'd know that they have each other company's but cannot miggle, yet. Im just afraid they'd play n further injured Koochee's leg. Only let them sleep together on my bed during the day, which is the time they are not that active.

Btw, i brought her to a 2nd vet today. And he also confirmed that she only sprained the leg.
N, this evening her leg is a bit 'alive" not so "lembik" like yesteday. But still cannot used properly la. Vets said it wud take time. And she's pooping and peeing like normal now. yeah..gud sign! heheh...

Silverwineus, Dr jenny is the vet i met in KL lastime. She's a vet at Hands and Paws. And yes, she had had sum experience with gliders.
and she also happens to be frens with Reanne. And she recommended me to go there. So, she must be gud. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, thanks everyone for ur concern. Pls pray for her immediate recovery. Thanks!!! notworthy.gif

Sounds not too good. Hope it's something less serious than hind leg paralysis. Is she still active and moving about, taking food? Let's pray that this isn't permanent and for Koochee to recover speedily. She's a fighter.

Here's a link that may help you look for answers for the time being. LINK.

I just read this article about paralysis, thank you for sharing this link.
It reveals how important is sufficient nutrients, calcium, vitamins in the gliders diet. This article should alert us..

Pet shops dun care bout the gliders or the pet's health...
all they care is the money generated, that's why u see all the animals treated badly.
Sigh...that's y we should only get pets from proper breeder, not from the shop.
I hate them too.

A good sign, at least she is able to eliminate waste..yeapy!
Good effort to get a 2nd confirmation, you are very careful..
(OOPs, my suggie is barking now!! She's excited)
OK, back to the topic.
So the vet do not require any x-ray then.
Hands and Paws, if i'm not mistaken is near Aman Suria or Sunwaymas, PJ, right? I could be wrong. One day i should go and check that out, hmm hmm.gif
Wow..hushing your gliders to sleep by baby lullaby..?
Yeah, i used to sing tunes as well to jazz up the suggies, hehe..

the birds that man sells are sick and hes got the guts to convince me that theyre not.

once i was interested to get a blue and gold macaw and it had this really awful tumour-like things sticking out of its abdomen. and you know what? he told me "it is like that one.. normal..."

what a conman!

then the last time i saw he was selling gliders that were way underaged and adults kept in hamster cages. you know how small that is right?! and the best part was they were RM550 each. rclxub.gif

I've seen worse...I visited a breeder, small scale breeder in JB.
They were given cat food and small cage 1/2 feet x 1/2 feet x 1/2 feet.
Selling their gliders for 300,they joey is barely 5 weeks old.
They have been keeping them for 2 years...n the joeys are their 1st.
Given the condition,it's a miracle they produce joeys.
Sigh....sore sights.
Told them the condition isn't correct...give them some advise...but all they do is..
ask me to breed gliders n tame gliders for them.
