I seriously hope her case is not that bad. Becoz, i gave her the calcium just now, n trimmed her nails, to avoid her yanking her leg if the nails got stuck on anything, n i had had a grip from her! A very soft grip, but its there. Its kinda a relief, showing dat she still got feeling/movement in the leg. But i do hope it wont be as bad as the case.  unsure.gif

She's still active. When i pick her up at 4am just now, she stills want to climb all over me. But i just restrict her. Put her on my arms close to my chest n pat her to sleep. She slept instantly. I gave her Lactose Free Milk, and yerp she's drinking n eating. I didnt notice any pee or poops tho... sad.gif
*
I'm moved by the loving care that you display towards Cheekoo. Quiet and comfort her by holding her close to your heart, feeding her with the right nourishment such as Lactose Free Milk and calcium suplement in midnight, trimming her nails as precaution. Seeking the right vet as soon morning breaks..
I'm touched by the compassion and love you shown for your lil critter.. exemplifying a good model to me.
Update us on her development of her leg and hope for speedy recovery soon.

Hii I'm pre-ordering some Rep-Cal supplements from the US. And KP suggested that I pre-order the Green Label for sugar glider owners.

Just wondering if any of you are interested in the supplement or would know anyone else that would be. : )

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/638801

Maybe you could help me by pasting the link onto the sugar glider thread biggrin.gif

Thanks a lot. I'm trying to fill up the list so that LYN-ers could get their supplements ASAP.
*
Want to express my thanks to the many who are willing to take in these supplements to share with us. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
Not only my gliders are in need, my tortoise as well..
For my torts, they will need added Vit D3 for sure as Vit D3 is vital for the absorption of calcium. As for the gliders, should i purchase the calcium with or without added Vit D3 in this case, anyone who knows pls clarify that for me ..
Much thx.

*I remember Dr Jenny said, that a few cases, the joeys cannot even use their hind legs due to unsufficient nutrien. That kinda freaks me out so so much.*

Then at 9am i brought her to the vet and he gave me a pure calcium supplement to help reduce the 'bengkak'. She shud be ok in a few days.

I just need to restrict her movement a bit. Hope she'll recover then.

Anyway, thanks reanne for helping!
*
Spel'it, can you share with us this vet you patronize? Dr. Jenny? Does she specialize in sugar glider treatment? Whreabout it is this vet?

I think spel'it, you are like me, should get hold of Rep-Cal.. and stuff for the gliders.. so to bid all the metabolic bone disease or whatever paralysis disease a good farewell..right? smile.gif

Well, gliders can do without the Vit D3. You can still use the one with Vit D3 in it but it is much better to get the one without Vit D3 for gliders. Well, precaution loh.... anyway, you only need to use a very very very small pinch for your gliders each day.
*
Hun, you mean these supplement like calcium and herptivite (multivitamin) must be given daily?
Then, i must have made a mistake, as i thought the interval of feeding these supplement is weekly.
Will giving it daily be too much? What you guys suggest?

Right now, i'm in the midst of multi-tasking. One hand browsing the forums, on the other hand bonding with my cute and lovely critters..
What to do, always short of time...
Initially, i took the male MengZai out, then i took a fleeting look at the cage and saw LaiLai was looking so enviously..
Later, i let the male returned to the cage, and guess what..
As promptly as i opened the door, she just dashed out with patagium wide spreaded, and flown like a batman girl..
What concerned me was that she fell hard on the ground..OUCH!
I quickly grabbed her up and sayang her.. she's quite nakal and wants attention.

Sounds not too good. Hope it's something less serious than hind leg paralysis. Is she still active and moving about, taking food? Let's pray that this isn't permanent and for Koochee to recover speedily. She's a fighter.

Here's a link that may help you look for answers for the time being. LINK.

I just read this article about paralysis, thank you for sharing this link.
It reveals how important is sufficient nutrients, calcium, vitamins in the gliders diet. This article should alert us..

Well, the herptivite you can feed once every 2 days.... but the calcium, we mostly feed everyday. But the amount is very little. First, you use your thumb and finger to take a pinch of that powder, then you take that amount and divide to half. The half amount is good for 2 gliders.

Some people mix the calcium into a glider mix....

Thanks Hun!

Btw, i brought her to a 2nd vet today. And he also confirmed that she only sprained the leg.
N, this evening her leg is a bit 'alive" not so "lembik" like yesteday. But still cannot used properly la. Vets said it wud take time. And she's pooping and peeing like normal now. yeah..gud sign! heheh...

Silverwineus, Dr jenny is the vet i met in KL lastime. She's a vet at Hands and Paws. And yes, she had had sum experience with gliders.
and she also happens to be frens with Reanne. And she recommended me to go there. So, she must be gud.  icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, thanks everyone for ur concern. Pls pray for her immediate recovery. Thanks!!! notworthy.gif
Yeah, Cheekoo always fall flat on his belly. Worried also sumtimes, but he's a tough guy. drop, splattt...then run here n there. Hahaha...
But like u, ill pick him up n sayang2 him also la...talk baby talk with him. or sing hush lil baby. Hahahha... the same song i always dodoi them to sleep.
*
A good sign, at least she is able to eliminate waste..yeapy!
Good effort to get a 2nd confirmation, you are very careful..
(OOPs, my suggie is barking now!! She's excited)
OK, back to the topic.
So the vet do not require any x-ray then.
Hands and Paws, if i'm not mistaken is near Aman Suria or Sunwaymas, PJ, right? I could be wrong. One day i should go and check that out, hmm hmm.gif
Wow..hushing your gliders to sleep by baby lullaby..?
Yeah, i used to sing tunes as well to jazz up the suggies, hehe..

Last few days meet up my taiwanese supplier and he also a sg lover. After he viewed my cage and he ask me "ur sg very less jumping izzit?". I also got the same feel with him. He said his like to jump because of the "sg platform". Due to the wooden that we use to hang inside the cage very limited space for sg to prepare for jumping. He teached me DIY some "sg platform" to increase the chances for sg to jump. After i made some platform and put inside the cage i found that what he said is true and now my sg like to jump insite the cage compare to last time only climbing most of the time. Since today i m so free then i wont like to share with how to DIY the "SG Platform".
Please dun laugh for my poor workmanship

Phoonwa..

It's incredible idea to make playthings for the gliders, such as ladder, stairs, tunnels...
Very stimulating to our creativity and i would love to make some of these jumping toys for them in future as well.. haha laugh.gif

It's been some time i have not visited Ikano Pet Safari.
Today i have the privilege to do so.

Then i stopped over the sugar glider display glass vivarium, about 1 x 1.5 x 2 feet, roughly estimated.
Currently there is just a single underaged joey on display.
The forehead of the joey is injured.

I have the privilege to talk to the shop assistant and i think it's a good conversation to create awareness on the care of joeys.
The shop assistant is quite polite to me even though i may be quite straightforward about the lamps and the vivarium, which is designed for reptiles, and not sugar glider.

If more people excercise their boldness and rights to speak the truth in love and politely, then more awareness will be created and they may start to see the severity of the condition and complaints made by others and make a change.

It's good that currently the shop assistants there have more awareness now, because subsequently they have received many similar complaints peviously. Thanks to these people that cared, which have sowed seeds to them.

But in the case of selling underaged joeys, the breeders are the main concern as they are the ones who supply.
There should be a ruling enforced, that selling underaged joeys are prohibited.

If this circumstance should persist, then a firm action should be taken by reporting this cruelty to the animal welfare department for investigation. Lets observe how it goes from now. smile.gif

Thanks for the link, i have noted it as the accessories are very creative, it will be my next year project. Currently i'm working on my cage project this year.

Have missed almost 10 sections and just gone through it. Last week i was occupied with upgrading my marine tank which have acquired some satisfaction.
Referring to the cost of keeping sugar gliders previously, it's considered much reasonable as compared with guinea pigs and marine.
The maintenace cost for guinea cost from RM150-200, marine and together with planted tank cost more than RM 100 per month.

My gliders don't take egg like that.

The egg source is included in their mix.

1 tub of mix usually contains 1 or 2 eggs in it. Since mine is the bigger tupperware, feeding for 4 monster for 1 month, I use 2 eggs.

If feeding by it's own, I think it should be sparingly, like 3-4 times a week...

KP,
Hope that one day you will teach us how to make a mix like yours..
I'm very interested to learn to make one myself..

Is it mixing the ingredients in a blender and then refrigerate?
How long will a tub last as fruits won't be fresh in long term isn't it?

Your glider eats canned food? Mine won't hahaha.... but then I did find this canned food by Purina (Fancy Feast for cats), flavour is Roasted Succulent Chicken. The canned food is not processed meat but real chicken meat with some gel. My gliders love that.

I think the canned food you got there is ok....
*
Hun, may i know which pet shop you purchase Purina (Fancy Feast for cats), sounds good and succulent for my gliders as well..

Hun, i believe your gliders were so blessed as you know how to make as well as provide them nourishing wholesome foodstuff, haha..

Actually, i think some gliders have different preference.
it makes it easier for them by chopping into fine pieces and mixing it with fruits or things they like.

Lets say greenaries like vege which they loathe, if i give them the whole big piece, you can be sure they won't eat it.
But if i chop it up to very fine pieces and mix it with the things they like, usually i will find none left in the morning.

A rather quick update.

Meeting with PLC manager went well. They are agreeable to the event but need to get Toby Pet side's cooperation. He will get back to me by end of this week.

Date still tentative either 19 or 20 April.

He needs me to give him a full itinerary.

Here's what I have in mind...

- Guest arrive
- Sign our guest book (for future reference)
- Get a sticker tag and goody bag (goody bag still not sure)
- Talk begin - Will cover from basic to most advance stuff we know
- Info sharing session/Q&A session
- Check the side exhibition of the set up and stuff
- Can purchase some of the items available at a special price!
- Event end

smile.gif
KP
*
It's nice that the meeting went smooth and agreeable.
Like Hun metioned, I think we need to ask if they provide any basic facilites and resource such as
1. sound system

2. tables and chairs

2. exhibition display panels/boards.

which after their reply.

The itinerary will be fine once basic things to be figured out.
1. A voluntary speaker is found.

2. the exhibition site's materials preparation.

3. sales boothe/counter.

If there is anything for help, just let me know.

First time will always "take a lot of sweat" sweat.gif , but subsequent times will always be "close eyes also can do laa" kind.

she giv me 4 types of medication, 2 internal and 2 external which consist of antiseptic to wash the wound and cream to apply on the wound plus antibiotic to fight infection and anti-inflammation to reduce the swelling. Only after visiting dr.jenny i manage to put the wound under control. and she only charge me 15 for consultation and 22 for medication compare to dr.yeoh's 30 bucks iodine which dint help at all.

dr.jenny treatment is very straightforward and simple, i dun tink u would need a genius to figure it out.

and no i dun own any glider now, and dun think i ever will.
*
I think the approach is sensible. For bacterial infection, plain ointment may be too mild, a stronger dose of antibiotic may be needed.

A bad experience can cause us to draw back.
