OK, back to two important questions (I probably asked this before but I forgot the answer, dont mind some of you repeat and those of you never seen this before, can help educate me too!)

1. How much does it cost to keep a pair of sugar gliders... The cost of their supplement, grooming, food, cleaning - EACH MONTH?
Okay... Food is about RM15/week for me if you get supplies of Apples, Carrots, Honeydew, Cucumber and Cherry Tomatoes.
Mealworms RM1 can last about 1-2 weeks. So each month would prob be RM3-5.
Hun's glidermix can last about 1 month per container. Hun's mix is a supplement that I used for now. Thats around RM7 per container if I'm not mistaken.

Other than that is probably baby wipes for cleaning. One small pack of RM5 should prob last for a month since you only need to use it when they gets too smelly.

Others also used some approved kibbles and dogfood as treats. And some used organic baby foods.

Since I used old newspaper as beddings, I dont really spend on it. Just take some old The Sun copies from office. Hehe.

Its not really that expensive if wanna compare to other pets, like maybe hamsters and gerbils I think, since unlike hamsters staples, the fruits you can also eat. Well, Hun's mix are also safe to eat if you want! And baby wipes can also be used to clean your face! Hehe~

I find a safe way is to put your glider on an old cloth on a table when you take it out and leave him alone for about half hour. He usually pee and poo around that time. Then you play with him with no pee/poo on your body! thumbup.gif

1. How much does it cost to keep a pair of sugar gliders... The cost of their supplement, grooming, food, cleaning - EACH MONTH?
2. Is it safe to put the cage outside? I know some of you had answered this with cold wind, raining and musang. What if there's cover (raincoat type of cloth) and there is a padlock at the cage door. Wouldnt that "solve" everything?

It's kind of hard to keep a caged animal indoor. My house already got two Westie, tambah somemore, sure kena whack!
I know la. Hahaha... I came so close to buying it from crazymouse_yyh last time and last minute I had to cancel. House not much cicak leh. The bloody worm and cricket are super gelifying. Luckily there are alternatives.
Chicken and eggs are a good source of protein for them eh? OK, but can they live solely on chicken and eggs as a source of protein? A lifetime without wormie and crickets, just eggs / chicken - can? If can, then it's one problem solved!

How do you avoid getting pee / poo on each time you take it out?
Hah! I'm back at the sugar glider thread again! Been wanting a pair for so so long! I think what jitshiong say is right, they dont want to give them a proper housing because they want it to be on display for the customers.

When you said mealworms and crickets are still the best. Do you mean to say that chicken and eggs' protein is insufficient? Probably not as good as raw meat (worm and cricket)?? If possible, I'd like to feed them chicken / egg all their life (if I ever get a pair, that is), without mealworms or crickets. Is that possible?
My God... the remains of the cicak sure is gross!! Anyway, I think you are right about how they want the gliders to be displayed and it's difficult to take it out once they are comfortable in the pouch.

Like me, pee on me... What is this man...

I never actually calculated my cost of keeping my gliders. I would estimate it around RM50, but that includes the fruits. I share the fruits with my gliders, cos can't keep fruits for a long long time. Cut pieces for them, others i eat it so it's more like giving them a part of my daily diet. So practically my cost would be below RM20 including supplements and mealworms.

I wouldn't recommend keeping them outside. That will exposed them to thunder, cars, bikes, cats, dog.. too long to list them down. However, there are lots of benefits if u keep them in ur house. They'll get used to ur smell, the voices of ur family member, u need not worry if other animals will attack them. Also, u'll know if something is wrong with them. Gliders make a lot of sound, sometimes when they bark or cry it's important to check on them. Keeping them in will make sure that u can attend to them immedietely rather than to notice it the next morning when u r awake. That's too late.

I agree on feeding them crickets and mealworms too. Closer to what they have in the wild. U can give them pinkies too. Crickets and mealworm aren't really that gross. If u fry them, u can eat them too. A very good source of protien. I had them when i was in Thailand, they taste like chips. HEhe.

As for the pee n poo part, when they are awake let them stay in the cage for half an hour. Most of the time they'll do their business first thing when they wake up. After they are done, u can play with them but be ready with a piece of tissue to wipe off some marking. Nothing much to worry actually.

I dun think u need to touch the mealworm in order to feed them. My other glider Twinkle is a WC glider, she goes into the 'kill' mode when i try to feed her mealworm. So my just use a chopstick to feed her lo. Else my finger also get a taste of the sharp teeth.OUCH! laugh.gif

I really should puasa from visiting pets wonderland hehe. now i want some ferrets and a budgie and a hotot rabbit and fat tailed gerbils.

My dream is to open a pet supply store at my parents hometown that sells pet supplies, not pets. the pets in the store will be ALL MINE! MUAHAHAHA~

If people wants them I can maybe help them find a responsible breeder...

But thats actually a plan for a distance future. So no need to start dreaming now sad.gif.

Normally they'll crab if they are not bonded to u.
But if u r in the bonding process, u should try and hold ur joey when they are asleep.
They will eventually sleep in the warmth of ur hand.
That way they'll be bonded to u.
Take the bite, they just nip.
During they day they won't be so aggresive.
Half asleep ma

They are different la, when bonded gliders dun nip anymore.
Mine will just sleep even if i disturb her.

I'm also in the midst of thinking how to make my bigger cage more "filled up".... but cage not with me yet LOL.... most likely I will use ropes coz Kiah and Kapi like to walk and hang on their ropes.

My cage is not big enough. Is the normal RM100 cage from pet safari lah but it is so filled up with stuff! A friend saw my cage, she said my cage looks like a circus hahahah....

my glider like the rope too! itll make a good climbing thingy.
