Onkyo and yammy share the similarities....
both roll off at higher frequencies (blurred), but yammy rolled off higher

strength of yammy is in the mid to mid-bass region, the firing of guns carry weight..."very meaty" sorry lar.. all layman terms biggrin.gif

so as to speak.... every thing changes for the better,

new range of yammy's is very good in bass, mid, midbass, airy-highs ( now you can hear tingy-clinky things, without sibilance)

Thanks for the info, Bro. Which part of Ipoh are you from? I'm too from Ipoh. The reason why I'm asking is because there is these hifi shop owner said he taking in a secondhand Yammy 1800 at the end of the month. Heard the owner upgrade to a onkyo 906. Thought off trading in my old 5.1 onkyo receiver with the yammy 1800. wink.gif

Tq for the compliment blush.gif

I am going to upgrade mine to 4310. So, the 1800 has to make way for it. I am selling it off.

now bro htkaki want to make your pants wet pula with the 4310 ( note : not to say 1800 no good, 4310 is in a different category and shud compete with RX-V3900 biggrin.gif )

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~//~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i have tried out similar settings from AVS forum on my yammy
1) 1st round.. let YPAO do the calibration for Level, DRC, distance etc, only untick the wiring
2) 2nd round.. set all spk to small n individual crossover setting at 80hz.. redo the YPAO calibration now untick the speaker, wiring also
YPAO calibrated settings amp volume level at -24
Level ~~~ Distance in feet
front Left -0.5 ~~~ 9.6
Front right +1.5 ~~~10.8
Centre -1.5 ~~~ 9.8 ~~ Center at -1.5 cos ( its a LCR speaker makes sense )
sur left +3 ~~~~ 6.2 ~~sur left at +3 cos placement of mic on Hiback sofa and its seated at center left ( not center)
sur Right +2.5 ~~~~7.8 ~~ that explains y front left is -0.5 and sur right is +2.5 ( didnt block much sound from that direction)
EQ at Natural
when all this done, put your favourite BD to test
for me i use this ( etrxact from bluray disc forum )
Test disc ~ House of Flying Daggers ~ US region ~ DD 5.1 Mandarin
Yammy Volume at -28
Bluray BDP-LX52
RX-V3900
Speaker Audica's System CS3 on 5.1 ( havent fixed addional 2 for 7.1 and presence spk yet ~ both pairs in utility room smile.gif )
those in red not mentioned in bluray thread smile.gif
1) the "Drum" scene track 3 at palace
this part really brings the subtle highs midbass, & basslines to the very lows ( soree ya no 16-20hz sub to test biggrin.gif )begining..notice also the goldchain tingling sound from zhang ziyi head.. you dont have to pay attention you can easily hear it all the way)Andy Lau when tossing the bead with his hand, you can hear the whirling sound, the impact when the bean strike the drum, to the falling down to the floor
when zhang ziyi is gracefully dancing around matching the beads sequence, notice the tingling of bells in that tight midbass impulse
to the drawing of sword from andy Lau to the fight scene ended at the bath pool, not to mention crackling of bamboos at the prison...
1a) in the prison where zhang ziyi is head & hand cuffed (traditional way) notice the sound of insect or birds at top far left away from the speaker and the bamboo sounds on examples of torturing
2) prairie " track 8" & Bamboo forest " track 9" scene
fighting scene at the prairie, bows & arrows shooting, withdrawing and throwing of daggers, and also the incoming of dagger like "wooden sticks "
from no-where.
the falling of bamboo leaves from the quiet scene ( where zhang ziyi ) is resting
the bamboo rattling & crackling sound is superb, not to mention when the bamboo leaves sprung up, ( notice the height ) of the bamboo leaves from there onwards ( these bamboos are some 20 - 30 feet)
3) the last scene threesome fight at blizzard snow... when zhang ziyi fling the dagger to hit the bloodspot to hitting the tree,
when everythings notice the whirling sound of the snow blizzard when all action is gone
my preference "this BD is superb for sound calibration, and its full of surprises from the quietest moments ( notice the whispers, breathing and other minute sounds to the pounding mids and bass) thumbup.gif
and yes... suprisingly its in 5.1 DD,
wonder how it sounds in the UK Region B ...DTS-HD MA BD
i change the crossover setting to 90hz, and it gave an overall balance sound the mid-highs & highs were very much better... still have to play around and tweak the settings( at this stage overall... i'm very happy for the AQ setting.... haha just save it in memory1 biggrin.gif biggrin.gif )will have to redo calibration on 90hz to audition again some other time.. hehe
Own Peference la of course ok...
Denon overall is still a very good amp, but not to me as i dont quite like the mid-high and the highs, i do find it too etching and ear piercing ( just dont seem natural to me thats all)
well this is a yammy thread, and since you on blueray, make sure you get those yamaha AVR's that has HDMI and also true-HD and DTS-HD or DTS-HDMA
note also that your PS3 cant bitstream,
also we dont know what you really want AVR + speakers or HiTB biggrin.gif
please state your budget too, to simplify matters...
http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/av...s/receiver.html
also you can pick up good bargains on used sets like RX-V1800 etc
for the surrounds its copper cable (easily some 50 strands) dated back to a decade ago, couldn't remember the make liao
for the fronts and center, temporarily using ordinary 40core cheapo type RM2/meter ones (paiseh only wish you never ask biggrin.gif ) i have the Naim but cud not fit in my satellite towers, as i am still experimenting setup of
~ AVR spk out >> Audica SUB >> satellites and
~ AVR sub pre out >> Audica sub power in
with AVR spk to spks and AVR sub out to sub
tonight if got time I will hook up satellites to my M&K 90 ( wou didn't know this babies go down as low as 10hz phew sweat.gif )
setting it as a full range spk and and the .1 channel to Audica dedicated sub rclxms.gif
