hi guys...i've been reading alot about home theater setups in the LYN forums..and amazing how u guys know so much about everything! anyways, i'm planning on moving to a new place early next year, and am thinking of setting up a not-so-high-end home theater system...tight on budget really..

i've pretty much locked my decision on the Yamaha V663..btw, this V663 has very similar specs with the AX763...cud it actually be the same model but numbered differently? but very little info on the AX763 can be found on local websites...

anyways...i notice the V663 or even the AX763 has only 2 HDMI port...and this actually affected some buyers...the Onkyo 606 actually has 4 HDMI port. the thing is, how many HDMI port do you actually require? Maybe guys here can share with us all what are your HDMI ports used for in your setup?

thanks!

Bro, tis AVR has been discussed for many time in Yamaha AVR thread here. It is abt RM2,800.

For RM3,650, can get RX-V1800 already with some few hundreds buck left to buy cables.

yes, now reading thru the Yammy AVR thread wink.gif sorry...but wah lau..87 pages...

at RM2800, its almost same price as Denon AVR1909...but the yammy looks much better, dunnno the performance, which 1 u think i shud go for? V1900 a bit beyond my reach...still need to buy a BD player..& new sub...

As the latest news, Yamaha HQ has sold out all the RX-V663 & 863 stock. And stop to bring in any more since going to wait for new x65 series.
If somebody still interested with that, must have to make move faster before retailer finish their stock.
*
if they not bringing in new stock, and old 863 & 663 finito liao...when the new series will be available in M'sia? desa HT listed their selling price for 863 at RM2999 + free Marantz HDMI dvd player..was very tempted but now...since got new models...hhhrrmm....new think twice...

btw, why so difficult to get a BLACK color yammy amp?? most AV shops carry the silver color unit...when ask bout black unit, they say need to special order...why ar?? majority ppl like black color right?? silver looks a bit off lerr...if anyone know local yamaha distributor very well, can u kindly pass the word??? that we prefer black color units...dun just bring silver color units in...

U.S. pricing on the new yammy x65 series AVR

Yamaha RX-V365 - $250 (RM937)
Yamaha RX-V465 - $380 (RM1425)
Yamaha RX-V565 - $480 (RM1800)
Yamaha RX-V665 - $550 (RM2062)
Yamaha RX-V765 - $650 (RM2437)

I can't find a s-video in the above pic

hi, yea i went google'd the issue a little, a found out most AVR manufacturer removed S-Vid terminals in their new AVRs...dun understand why..

anyways, i would like to know, with respect to our Astro decoder, what if we connect the S-Vid from Astro decoder to TV directly and the audio out to AVR, can that work too?

If ur tv is above 480p, such as 720p or 1080p...chances to get better PQ will be connect s-video to avr (upconverting process).
*
i'd be using a FHD plasma tv...and most likely will buy the V665 at the KLIAV show...so, if for my case. which connection would be better?

1) S-video out from Astro decoder to TV, Audio L-R out to AVR (phono 2RCA cable)
2) Composite cable out from Astro decoder to AVR, Audio L-R out to AVR (phono 2RCA cable)

AVR to TV using HDMI

thanks!

daryl.k, 665 is a rip-off if the price still holds.
*
yea bro, i knw price is expensive for the 665, but dun think hv much choice...i wud love to hv the 863 instead cos it has everything i want..but unfortunately, its being replaced by newer model and most important, no black color available.

that's why i wait for KLIAV...i'm hoping to get good deals there. its now price at 2.6k before discount right? if can get around 2k ok la...within budget smile.gif

btw htkaki, any wind if there'll be a 50in panny S series?

or means i need to get AVR rated at 150W?

start one bro,
for i know, they are the most affordable on feature for feature...
but for the lower range, think its too noisy

hehehe...me no Pioneer product as yet...pai seh la to start a thread tongue.gif

perhaps in due time...i shall rclxms.gif

mind clarify, which are the 'lower' range? LX series bit far reach...i think i can only afford the VSX range at most..that being said, the new VSX1019AH seems damn cun-de-bah..still waiting for confirmation on pricing...see if it can be added on my wish list icon_idea.gif

V665 was on sale for RM2312...Titanium color only..i saw only 2 units available..when asked about black unit, they say got one left, which is a open unit from the KLIAV show..RM2032 after 30% off. normal unopened box AVR (365-665) all at 20% off.

actually, unless ur buying any one of those yammy AVR, no point heading there..really nothing interesting.
