The 1800 price is tempting. That's why I have thought of buying it before as denon and Onkyo are too pricey here.

Hi. I am a total newbie in this and has been interested to get a new AVR. I am now down to comparing between rx-v863 and pioneer vsx-1018AHK.
Also I am being recommended AAD M Series speaker set comprising M-5T, M-5C, M-10S, M-5X. Anybody has any experience with these? Thanks in advance! |

by all means, go for 863. Most of the Pioneer AVR's AQ seems bright to me and it lacks the solid authority of Yammy.
How much for the AAD? Cant comment on it since no chance to audition yet |

Hi i'm new here. Just looking around for amps for my TV.
Just a noob question here. Understand that this player has DVD upscaling features, does this mean that when i use a normal DVD player, this Yamaha wil then upscale my picture for me when it projects on the tv? Thanks |

V663 don't have upscaler only up-converter
V863 is the one having the up-scaler |

Upconvert is that the AVR will convert lower tier signal to the higher tier.
e.g. S-video upconvert to Component or HDMI. Here, the signal remain at its native form. Upscale is when the AVR the resolution from an input source (say 480p)to higher resolution |

IC, now i understand, thanks so much..
Another question is, if my player does not have an upscaler function, therefore even with the 863, my pics wont be upscaled to a higher quality? |

Hence the higher price for 863. If you don't need upscaler, 663 is your best bet. Just get a player than can upscale for you. Cheaper that way. Many sub RM400 players now can upscale very well.

For RM3k you can get 663 and PSB Alpha T1. Add another RM1k you can have 1 set of 5 PSB speakers (2 T1, 1C1 and 2 B1). These speakers perform well without sub. Don't expect explosive bass but at least acceptable bass is there until you have budget for a sub.

663 is RM1800. 863 about RM2800 (quite a waste of 1k to buy if u don't need the upscaler and power difference from 663 not that much). Add another 1k at RM3800 u can get RX-V1800. Now this baby is worth the price. Syiiook!
Too bad I'm not elite enuf to own one |
