Hi, I have a question, not sure if this is the right place to post.
Basically when I hook up my pc with VGA cable D-sub to my LG scarlet on full hd, it work fine. Problem start when i hook up HDMI, the picture quality drop drastically. Even if i do a pixel to pixel (just scan in LG), it's still look very bad. It seem like certain detail or color is missing and it's not sharp at all.

I tried my notebook it has the same result. The HDMI cable is working fine i suppose, cause when i hook up with my monitor, it seem normal.

Could it be a defect?

Could it be your GC has problem with HDMI output? Or resolution problem?

Which model are you using? Might need some who have accessed to that model to be able to pin point the problem. I wouldn't mind going over to your place to see things out, but I'm from Sabah, minority here.

Otherwise take some pictures of it and I might be able to help as this kind of things are difficult to elaborate by words.

It's a 42LG60FR. I tried taking picture, it the photo couldn't tell the different. I suspect it's a color depth issue. The HDMI output seem like a 16 bit color.. I just swap another HDMI cable, the result is the same. The chances of me getting a defect LCD screen it's quite possible. Really tough luck, i dun really feel like sending it for repair right after the 3rd day of my purchase.

That sucks, and I really feel sorry for you. I remember I had to send my first LCD TV purchase the first day I got it. Tough luck? No, I still think flat panels have a long way to go to claim reliability.

May htkaki can help you out before sending it for repair as he has access to various panels.

Did try the DVD with hdmi output. But since the resolution is so bad, i cant really tell the different.

I'm quite sure it has something to do with color depth. It's output 16bit or below.

I actually went to another shop to test the same model, guess what, it has the same result! Really need some help, i've been browsing around, dun seem to find any solution.

Possible problem:
1. LG HDMI 1.3 deep color got problem(very unlikely).
2. Both of my PC and notebook could not output HDMI signal correctly.

Anyone has the same experience?

vampiric, have you tried going into the options of the tv?
that helps,you know.

if not,you might want to try changing the cable you're using.cheap cables tend to **** up easily,obviously....

Vampiric, can u take some pictures on how "bad" u'r TV actually looks when connected through HDMI using a PC.

U mentioned they look bad at 1080p. How about lower res, e.g 1080i or even 720p?

Just a page ago quite a few agreed with me you are better off with panels other than Sony's, unless you are willing to pay a premium for anything but quality.

welwitchia,

I tried 720p, it's the same also. I tried taking picture, but from the photo, cant really tell. sad.gif imaging seeing a 32bit picture in 16bit display. That's wat u get.

thanks for your reply....sorry as i was too lazy to read post by post...haha
anyway, does it really matters when it comes to FullHD and HDReady when choosing lcd?
i'll be using the lcd mainly for ps3, computer movies, and for my mother's hokkien drama in astro?
can a ameteur like me tells or feels the difference when playing ps3 in a HDReady and fullhd lcd??
if that matter;s then i would need a 32" FullHD lcd, any other recommendations beside sony??

Depending on the seating distance from the LCD TV itself. Borrow this chart from aiman as reference for all :
