also, i got 300ml oral-b mouthwash and 380ml shampoo.. will that be confiscated too? it will be in luggage bag, not cabin

i'm not too sure abt pati ayam, but they are really serious in protecting their agriculture industry but you can try your luck of course. smile.gif
Anyway here they have all asian stuff esp. in Central Market albeit kinda expensive too be honest. Shampoo all ok, in fact i will recommend everybody to buy their toiletries stuff from Malaysia instead of here.

And beware of your laptop make sure no kiddie ahem. This month along in Adelaide airport 3 air crews were arrested for illegal possession of that 'things' and they were fined heavily by the court here.

hrmm... two conflicting cases.. so if i hand-carry my laptop, they will ask me to turn it on or not?
it is safe to place laptop inside luggage bag? or still screened the same way as hand-carry stuff and asked to show to them?

they will generally not bother with your notebooks.......the pilot cases were sting operations, where there was a tip off, and it is NOT about general adult porn, they couldn't care less about that, but it was about pedophilia....which the oz authorities are REALLY serious about.........

and NEVER check in anything of value, like a notebook, from msia, especially going through klia, almost 100% it will NOT arrive...........i kid you not..........

sure can can, i bought 1 liter of shampoo in my luggage biggrin.gif . On laptop it depends, most likely NOT, coz when you go with MAS with the Boeing 777, is like 300+ passenger, so i doubt custom will check it although they have the right to do so i think, i was so scared that they will rampas my 100+ burned DVD that i bought with me, but yeah everything went smooth. For Laptop better hand luggage, if you're clean then no need to worry. as far as i know when you arrive they don't scan anything except during the quarantine thingy if you declared you brought nth then they will scan all your luggage to make sure you are telling the truth. if you declared you bring something then they hand search your stuff esp. foods.

Just asking about the accommodation, since most of you have stayed in Aus longer than me.Heck,im only there for 2 days.

I found a place in Kingsford(those in sydney should know),on a street call Middle Street. It's less than 5 minutes walk to the uni and there are shops near by.The rent is $180 per week. There is a Chinese family with 2 sons that have migrated from China staying there. There will be charges on electricity and internet but she say the total rent wont exceed $200 per week.

The deal is good, close to uni, decent rent, shops near by but there is something holding me back:Are these people trustable?Im kinda afraid that they will con or steal my stuff.Been hearing a lot of these people going to Aus to con people.Shall i take that place or continue looking for other place?

mainland chinese are tricky, and quite different from overseas chinese in msia and spore.........so yes you are right to be weary.......and i would continue to keep looking.......

alternatively, just take it, at least for the 1st semester, and use the time to look for a better place........it might work out okay anyway.......

and please fill the form quarantine form properly.

don't you think it is a bit stupid checking your notebook for general porn, when it is freely available all over the internet?.......and there are lots of sites for webhosting, why does one need to keep porn in one's notebook?..........no, pedophilia is what they are after.........

ok, to avoid the quarantine hassle, i just leave all food behind then..

next, about money.. currently i've got 1800AUD cash in hand, but relatives scold me for not making travellers cheque.. at first i did want to make one but when i went to maybank, they said they don't make travellers cheque anymore, not sure if it was just that branch or for all maybanks..

anyone have suggestions? i'm pretty sure i can handle the cash but of course being first-timer to go oversea alone, i haven't earn reputation among relatives to show that i can do it.. oh well, maybe they're right.... sad.gif

so could u guys let me know what/where correct procedure to convert some of the AUD cash in my hand to travellers cheque? lets say 1300AUD cheque

will there be any exchange rate conversion or something when i make the cheque since i've already got the AUD cash currency in hand?

wow, your hand i`m worry about, holding cash 1800 while travelling is so much risk. sweat.gif (ill rob ya if i can laugh.gif )
3 basic way to avoid being trap by robber/pickpocket/or conner ,

1.credit card-more limits like about 10K
2.bank draft or bank cheque, which later you can open a bank account once you arrive, a bank cheque is about rm8 if not mistaken
3.have about AUD300-500 in cash in hand in case any problem occur.

traveller cheque not really recommend from my point of view(correct me), cost it is more of travelling than student studies, dont be scared, aussie is pretty alright place unlike NY.

about you mooze, since you are schooling up with uni of Adelaide, isnt they going to sort of arrange people taking care of you? about your arrival etc.
and your food, you can bring some over but not all right(coz i see it is too much as in your luggage), but pls refer the attachment i pinned up on first page if you want to bring icon_rolleyes.gif
hope this clear your mind up abit.

do NOT change your money into traveller's cheques, it's an obsolete means of fund carriage or transfers......you loose lots in exchange margins and charges.........

keep whatever cash you may need for immediate expenses, $500 should be enough for the first few days, especially if you got accommodation already sorted out..........however, since you have already converted into oz $, don't change it again, every time you convert you loose money.........just bring the whole thing in cash, and be careful.......

what you should have done is, convert you rm into an oz $ bank draft in your name........that is the cheapest way of fund transfer from msia..........open an account when you arrive and bank the draft in, it clears usually in 3-5 working days...........future fund transfers can be this way........the drafts are safe to be sent to you by registered post......

for back up, should you run into trouble, bring along you msian atm card(s), those with either plus or cirrus at the back, you can withdraw oz$ anytime at any of the atm with the plus/cirrus sign......make sure you have some money in you msian account.........the oz bank will then convert the amount you withdrew into rm, and your bank here will then deduct the amount from your account here, plus a 'small' service charge, about rm5-20 per transaction........obviously you don't want to withdraw small amount each time, the bigger the amount, the smaller the charge relatively.......

of course, if you dad is rich and generous, you may get a supplementary credit card as back up......you can use it to buy things, but never use it to withdraw cash at the atm...... you be charged high fees and ahlong interests........ biggrin.gif

nope, not gonna bring the food, end of that story, was kind of my stupid idea in 1st place, i dont even know how to cook...
though mum was kind of excited about the thought of bringing stuff to cook there, so she had listed and took these stuff when we went shopping earlier, then so many recipes she cited by words, i didnt try to memorize or write it down .. blink.gif

so normal bank draft/cheque can be brought to aussie bank by hand?
but could i use the AUD cash in my hand to make the bank draft/cheque?

i dont see the difference between travelling cheque and bank draft/cheque.. rclxub.gif
