It all depends really on the individual university. There are no hard and set rules. If they want IELTS, sit for it. What is the issue here? Yes, RM500 is still money, but if coughing up RM500 is so difficult, what makes you think about can afford RM60,000/year?
I personally have my doubts on people who get in with SPM 1119. Even a A1 is the absolute bare minimum. In the case of MeruChan, I think they looked at your diploma (from where?) more than your SPM. Personally, if nothing else, sitting for IELTS allows you to benchmark yourself against your (international) peers when you arrive in Australia. |

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Sep 2 2008, 09:06 AM) I got a B3 for 1119 and im still required to take IELTS.SPM1119's English standard is way too low to be used in uni. Not all universities have the same english language requirements. UQ does accept SPM GCE-O level moderated grade of english (at least B3), while many other universities only accept AS level General paper/ English subject. If someone can score at least A2 in 1119 English, i don't think he/she will score less than 6.5 in IELTS.Where did you get this info? Non of the prospectus i had say they accept O-level english. |

Normally, students with a high level of English Language proficiency, will score 8.0 and above and it's considered an excellent result as it will fulfill english language requirements for all courses. No courses will need any higher score than 8.0.what people mean when they say the 'fail' is that they failed to meet the requirements of whatever that needs english testing, be it to enter uni, to apply for a job, to apply for pr, etc..........this minimum band requirement will of course vary, depending on the situation......eg, you need band 7 for laws and medicine courses.......but band 6 for pr application......and there are 2 categories of ielts, general and academic........ for what is tested, see my post above....... Students with above normal grasp of english language, score 7.0 or 7.5. Many Malaysians fall in this category. Students with normal level, usually score 6.0 or 6.5. Students with below average level, normally score 5.0 or 5.5, and this usually does not fulfill uni's english language requirements. If anyone score less than 5.0, it is considered as very poor. This case rarely happens unless one has not studied english for a few years. |

You can fly to Australia; but be prepare before fly in. You dont need to take YR12 if you dont plan to. To take Diploma in Business; you need to refer to which college you prefer n study the subjects either its worth more to do in Msia or to do here. It depends on your result n the Australia college requirement. some will state it required; some will not. just ask if you need more info. |

I should also mention that my housemate was also from Informatics college(although not Melaka branch), perhaps that's the reason. And also, if the university not only recognized but actually has some sort of 'linkage' to your college, you can just ask your lecturer to write something like confirmation letter to 'guarantee' that all the courses are taught in English and you'll get in the uni as well, that's what one of my friends did when she couldn't pass 6.0 of the IELTS. Of course, some highly regarded uni may not accept this trick (such as ANU or UniMeb), but well, i think certificate is just what they want to see.
About whether you should take IELTS or not if it's not compulsory, well i think it depends on personal opinion. For me if i'd known that trick i wouldn't take the IELTS because, i simply don't think that paper is worth RM 520. Yeah it gives you a sense of achievement when you got 8.5 or something, but well...really depends on you if you want to fork out money or not. |
