Personally, I still think degree is not a must. Just me, alright? And little ice. Sorry that I could not as I do not have recording equipment. I thought of this some time back. No, I did not choose Zigeunerweisen. I am a cellist, nothing special for me in that piece (just my view). I choose Beethoven's Fifth and Ninth, Mozart and Bach that I have forgot. Conducted Beethoven's Piano Sonata #14 with self orchestra arrangement for my exam. |

QUOTE(icypetals @ Apr 16 2008, 02:16 PM) ooh Once again I would want to apologize that I am not feeling well these lately, so my words came out are wrong. At last XD end of flame war. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « for me, the more u study, the more u gain, the more u travel, the more you learn, the more you work, the more you receive. Talking about education, degree is the highest of all. Master classes are exist but those are offered by experienced famous professionals. Keeping it clear, master is not a paper education. I know there is a musician who is holding a diploma for the rest of his life, he is not around anymore. He passed away at the age of 80, he is a famous performer back then. I know him but I forgot his name , I study his history in my history studies. Conclusion, if really wants to go big, just take the effort to degree or master. Even my boss, he is just a diploma holder and he is doing quite well today. We need money to live but there is not a need to be crazy for money. QUOTE(icypetals @ Apr 17 2008, 02:56 PM) ya, u can go far with a diploma. Alright, I am putting the spoiler because of avoiding long posts.but why stop if u can study further?? there is no pain learning more! yup, if u want to be a millionare. dont be a musician. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I have a plan, I wanted to be a performer, a singer/songwriter that most "modern musician" does today. I came this far with diploma is to at least know the proper education of music. So I think you got my idea of being a musician but what you said is good. There is a problem of me is I do not have the fund to continue degree, my parents have a problem on that. I worked in the other music school before, I saw guitar teacher teach guitar tabs instead of notation. More over, they are just play-by-ear guitar player. That which is disappoints me the most. Talking about teachers giving less lesson in a class, that is applied to all the teachers in the previous music school that I worked with. It disappoints me even thought it is not by business. I did not debate with them, I know what is going to happen if I do. Since today and forever, I am teaching my students "full "throttle". Let me tell you, every time when there is a new student enrollment I will ask them why they choose to learn this instrument. I will ask a few aesthetic questions. After all, there is a lot of disappointments other than education. |

QUOTE(little ice @ Apr 18 2008, 02:22 AM) a kind advice from me who has worked in this industry for few years. you can be performer and songwriter, but singer? that's hell a lot of effort and the return is so little unless you have the potential of becoming a real "star". it's not about you put more effort then you'll get returns. it's just not the same thing. Yes, I expect nothing from return and I am not doing most people are doing in this place. I am not money minded, that is the whole point of it.not trying to put your passion down, but this is the reality. only 1% of the singer will success. unless, you want to go for it without expecting any returns, but to fulfill your dream. oh no...we're getting far far away from topic. My favourite: Prelude from Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 played by Rostropovich |

QUOTE(icypetals @ Apr 19 2008, 02:33 PM) well good luck, u can still suceed with diploma but why not go further? Haha, I have heard of that quote before from someone.just like a story my school teacher told me: A boy said that his dad did not finnish form 2 and is driving mercedez. then my teacher said that "if u study until standard 4, you would be riding an helicopter right?" eventhou is funny, there's actually a lesson and moral in it. think about cello, i will be rooting for ur suceess "When you Cello gets bigger, it will pwn the violas and the violins!" QUOTE(jikolo @ Apr 19 2008, 10:45 PM) today i just bought a violin after second lesson. wonder if its ok. all thing is rm474. It is okay, but my music school can get lower than that. May I know what brand is your violin is? Eurostring?violin, bow, casing, rosin, and a mute. dope i didnt miss out anything. its seems tat my shoulder aint tat tired any more after i adjust my posture. but i still having trouble holding the bow. just seems cant get it right. can suggest a website for me to learn more? Just a simple Google search: http://www.expertvillage.com/video/13078_fiddle-bow-hold.htm |

* Classical = Real and proper music education
* Modern = Play-by-ear kind of a thing (music notation and advanced chord system will make them go crazy) * Music production = The people who works in the recording studio. They are not major in playing music instrument Take a pick. |

No, I am not lecturing anything. I am just saying.
But if anyone finds it offensive or hard to accept the play-by-ear thing, I would not say sorry. You have to accept the fact. A is A. B is B. If you still not okay with me, go find a music professor and ask them. |

![]() At the top of the photo above, the top bow. Never insert your thumb into the fork, just put your thumb finger nearby there. That is what I can tell you, the violin book usually has the section to how about how to hold the bow correctly. Shoulder pain because of gripping the violin. Never grips the violin, just put it in position. |

QUOTE(Momotaro Kun @ Apr 21 2008, 10:42 PM) Ah I finally found out how to quote You did not put it to the correct position, find a position that it will locks the violin without gripping. Make sure you are sitting straight. If I just put the violin into position and never grip it, my violin would kinda fall off when I'm shifting positions or doing vibrato By the way Cello, are you selling violin mutes in your shop? I'm looking for one Yes, I do sell them. Call me before you confirm to get, I need to check for stocks. |

QUOTE(empire @ Apr 23 2008, 01:13 AM) I like those Violinists who can play by ear and improvise 'on the spot'. I've had the pleasure of perfroming with them many times. I love playing Yellowcard songs with my violin for that.Too many times Violinists, Celiist and Violists rely on notes. That's not good. |

QUOTE(wreckens15 @ May 19 2008, 01:32 PM) is violin an expensive instrument? for a beginner? Kapok guitars are totally sick if you really play and feel it.imean if guitar u can start with cheap kapok if violin? is there such thing as "cheap"? The cheapest violin I ever saw is RM200, a China made and the build quality are worst (you will see a few wood are not stick properly and a lot more). More over, violin is a sensitive instrument thus on a cheap violin will make your world go upside down. I have a few good cheap beginner violins for sale at RM399 new with case, rosin and bow. |

QUOTE(jikolo @ May 19 2008, 10:07 PM) Ahhh...good question. Yes, they are acceptable for beginners. All the China made except Eurostring.QUOTE(storm04 @ May 24 2008, 06:00 AM) #1 still trying to bring myself to inform the music center that i'm quitting... just told them i'm halting the lessons for few months... how? #1, You can halt your lessons anytime but not more than 2 months (that is what music school follows). If it is over 2 months, you can resume it by paying the registration fees again.#2 1. should i attempt to change it myself or? i read and watched some instructions online but still... #3 2. should i just change the string that broke or change all the string (one after the other of course...) #4 how much does a tuner with and without metronome costs? and which type/brand will u ppl recommend #5 woowee ... the bow looks nice... carbon fibre bow? (or am i talking nonsense?) yours? #6 i was still playing open strings in 1 month... or is it me - slow?? hmmm ... #2, It is not advisable to change it yourself as violin is a sensitive instrument. Come to my shop and I will change it and teach you how to change it. #3, You should change the G/4th string as your violin is new. #4, There is less digital tuners for violin in the market. But I sell pitch pipe at my shop, also I will teach you how to tune. #5, Yes, it is a carbon fiber bow. Fact: Carbon fiber bows are the worst. #6, To be frank, yes. Normally my students will move on to finger playing after the first class. By the way, franstormer is my student now. He is already started playing a song on the violin after a first class with me. |
