QUOTE(sirius.fighter @ Apr 15 2008, 07:26 PM) pls read this guys.. I have mention about amoxicillin being good for bacteria causing sickness ( no one doubt its usefulness against respiratory tract infection ) Its the dosage thats important - as it goes directly into the system and once its in it cant be reversed !! ( Overdosing can be serious and be noticed very soon ie a few minutes / hours ) - ![]() the link: http://books.google.com.my/books?id=WITaVY...6Xv6Ew5nU&hl=en once again...use on your own risk.cos this is "stupid" ideas said by that fatcat. im not showing here i just want that fat cat shut up his mouth dont be childish any more. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « And you come mention about - Excess Calcium = stone - Excess Vitamin = poison Your above mention can be yes and no First of all , all the above can be " wash / pass " of system if un-utilised unless some other mineral are there to absorb it ( calcium ) to form those white oxalate stone or into the fat to cause vitamin poisoning !!! And it dont take a meal or two for those bad to come out / affect your animals ( weeks , months or even a year or two to show up ) Of course prolong non-access to water for drinking or soaking will cause the tortoise to retain some body fluid and reuse it within !!!! |

QUOTE(ishyshy @ Apr 16 2008, 05:50 PM) hihi... i'm new in this forum. wanna ask the experts regarding ST's diet Not trying to be expert but if you cant even tell the basic food item apart how can you be sure that your star is a Burmese ?? Told by seller or you really know how to tell them apart ??(PS. burmese ST diet same as Indian's? mine is burmese leh.. n oh, i havent measure, roughly ard 4cm ba.. haaa) 1 more thing, i've been feeding my ST mostly with kangkong. n also some carrots n pumpkin..n twice a week mix with canned herbs..eh, pellet? so wat i'm asking is if kangkong can really be given to ST daily? and any other type of veggie that i can get easily at supermarket? ohoh, 2 more thing, issit true that egg shell can be powdered n sprinkled on veggie for ST consumption? and i realise my little ST's skin abit dry, more daily soaking needed right? hehehe A pic will be good - above shell and a plastron will be best to tell them apart !!! But if yours really a Burmese Star ( More Tropical ) you could offer more fruits and some green deem bad for Indian Star ( Dry Grassland type) But Kang Kong as staple ( daily feeding ) is a big no no !! I am not from around Semanajung thus not too sure whats available commonly in supermarket or wetmarket on a daily basis !! But most supermarket greens are not good as staple ( Sawi , Gai choy , Choy sum as FatCat mention will the the next best thing around) Added on April 16, 2008, 5:45 pm QUOTE(ishyshy @ Apr 16 2008, 06:41 PM) hey thanks. ok, i'll go thru them... As for the white shit They will be there in most cases just more of less depending on whats fed !! hmm, no wonder there's sth that looks like white shit. oh dear, shdn't have fed it this often btw, the cuttlefish bone, issit can buy from pet shop, those for parrots? haaa, my little ST too shy for camera.. eh, polish the shell? i did bathe them n use a toothbrush to brush them ard 1 to 2 times a month. Yes those cuttle bone are those sold in petshop for parrots !!! Pic please !!! This post has been edited by SAMPERTH: Apr 16 2008, 05:45 PM |

But will all make great pets if care diet given properly !!thanks fat cat and samperth for the knowledge...that's very helpful. yesterday nite i went to buy the cuttlefish bone at a pet shop...n also another calcium thingy (ard 4cm lenght ba) to put in the water for my red ear turtles la..i hv 2 of them..below are my 2 turtles also. eh, it's burmese ST rite?? btw, ytd i bought the watercress and Endives (Chicory) at supermarket. i fed it with watercress..chop into salad..but din add other ingredients..trying out how's the reaction. my ST dun like..eat alittle n keep running away..hahaha.. An underside pic of its plastron will be great !!! But I am 95 % sure already !! The "star " on its back ( yours ) has only 3 or 4 " hand " !! QUOTE(pisang @ May 9 2008, 10:30 PM) can any pls tell me what does microchip (redfoot tortoise) here mean? are you referring to the green 'tag'? can it be removed? The green tag just say that they are legally imported !! and can be removed before or after your license is approved !! Just a sticker can be easily removedterima kasih! To have / keep them legally I think you will need to apply for license like keeping certain type of snake ie Ball python !!But I am not sure on this do correct me if I am wrong !!! OK if no one buy them and no demand for them thus noone harvesting them from the wild Will their ( Star ) population increase ?? Given their native homeland ie India is home to the 2nd most populus country ( also ever increasing demand for land for development)
Will there be more land to accomodate the increasing Star population ?? I dont think so even their so call protected forest / reserves may be converted one day !! See our own country for example those so call forest reserves are converted in no time as usable land used up !! THINK what fatcat say about those CB star is it possible for smuggler to collect upwards of a few hundred hatchlings / 50sen Star for sale ?? CH somewhere ?? or that easy to find them in the wild ( If that easy are they that endangered in the wild ) !! Try finding a Malayan Box( Adult or hatchlings) in our forest They are one of the most common of all Chelonian sp in our country Malaysia One is hard enough let alone tens or hundreds of them !!! Makes you think , dont you of what the papers , organisations are saying about certain sp being endangered !!!! |

QUOTE(Fat^Cat @ May 22 2008, 12:36 AM) Talk about the Rantau Abang project. i feel it so funny, how come they simply let go those baby turttles just like that, they suppose keep it awhile until the size bigger like 6 inches or 10 inches... then only let go into the deep sea. Since spent so much on the project why not spend more to keep them for a year or two before release ( They grow real fast in these first 2 years ) But when those small babbies direct go into deep sea, those big fish & etc are ready standby to eat them The project is good but the way they doing it is not right... * I work part time in an underwater facility thus I know how fast they grow even without manmade diet ie pellets MAYBE releasing them as hatchlings will attract more attention as they are cuter at that size and more are released ( good for the statistic , outcome record looks good - image boosting ) As maybe they dont know how to raise them up and many die on the way and only a handful are released thus no good on the report card !!! For example they can release 2000 hatchlings per season but only 200 yearlings ( 10 % made it pass first year ) |

QUOTE(dai86 @ May 26 2008, 10:19 AM) no lah. what they try to mean is that when an animal (most animal) which were taken care by human once they were born or animal which taken care by human since they small, will tend to lose the natural ability..(TEND)... it is cause by conditioning (try so google the word classical conditioning and operant conditioning - mean that behaviour learned fron conditioning) or should say they learn something else which might replace the natural ability... thats why need 're-introduce' or should say revise their natural ability so they remember. haha... (can explain like this ah??) A few things could be done to minimise "damage" why this few days here is so quite? huh... - No artificial food fed ie pellets - No fix feeding spot / time - Big big enclosure ie 10 by 10 ( ft or M if possible ) - Minimise human contact ( except for medication or manual checking ) So as their wild instinct remain intact Try not playing with your pets for long period of time ie a few weeks to months - Food fed and water change only or if Tortoise just leave them out in the garden ( food place all over at different times ) and see what happen !! Quiet maybe scare get "eyed" by department for having illegal stuff without permit !!! |
