Nice price on the Sharp's Full HD.

TV only 6.8k ar? Better start saving. biggrin.gif

I'm amazed with 1080i display on my 37" LCD TV already, really curious on how it will look on a 1080p full HD TV. tongue.gif

I read somewhere that of all LCD TV brands in the market, the LCD panel is provided by Sharp's factory.  hmm.gif

@miniacs, get a PS3 lor...  tongue.gif

depends on how far back you sitting...
dat day I saw 2 flat panel side by side, one is 1080p and the other is 854x480 SD panel plasma playing the same video signal, from 12-15ft away in the showroom, not much difference.... so if you go 1080p you should be sitting 1-1.5x screen distance to "see" what you paid for.. or else, if sitting at x2 distance, then those 1366x768p panels are usually good enuf..

May agree on that. So 1080p must get bigger one, then if sitting far the image should better than same size 720p TV. tongue.gif

Love this video:

BD-HP20A is equivalent with BD-HP20U in US rite?

got negative reviews in AVS.

I just realize in your sigg, u have Samsung BDP1400. Hows the AQ? in AVS got few bad reviews, saying a lot of audio drop-outs, cant play newer bd movies, etc etc. Hows ur say?

QUOTE(miniacs @ Jan 15 2008, 11:29 AM)
i know this is the wrong forum to ask but what is a recommended BD player to go for. Samsung or Sony better? From your signature I noticed that you have the Samsung BD player. Can u get it here?
*
Answering you both:-

After having this unit for 1 week, i can safely say i can neither recommend nor reject this unit entirely. Got it as a "probationary" unit a.k.a the loaner, until the units from CES 2008 hits the American market. Tested it with a variety of BDs, with zero audio or picture dropouts. The back says manufactured Nov 2007, maybe Sammy did better QC with the player past the October problematic players.

The daisy-chain in my setup, you all know. But I think the HDMI cables play a definitive role to ensure that there are no dropouts or glitches. My setup has all cables rated 1.3a, even though my XBR2 doesnt support Wide Color Gamut or the coveted 24p. The P1400 eats every single BD I fed it, this is after the latest firmware update. Even stubborn titles like Live Free or Die Hard and RE: Extinction loads fine, although the load time can be teeth-grating.

I got this for free, and for all that it's worth, it us a good player. It doesnt load Extinction's PiP at all, the option to do that wasn't even visible. It is a Profile 1.0 player after all. But everything else works, DTS HD-MA on Shoot 'eM Up sound phenomenal. The HQV benchmark tests I did for this player scores it below the Onkyo DV-HD805 and the PS3, failing the cadence and film resolution loss test.

I'd still recommend waiting for the Panny DMP-BD30/50 to hit the market, or if you already have the PS3, stick with that. The PS3 should be getting the Profile 2.0 once Saw IV releases end of this month.

that's for sure la.. when you see a spec 0.1mm of black dirt on the white wall at 10cm away doesn't mean you will still see it standing 10ft away unless you got some sort of zoom binoculars mah..

Why can't they do this for us international customers?

I got PS3 already, want to buy a pure Blu Ray for my room, my missus will not allow me to play console games in the room not even a pc, laptop an exemption, outside the room can. So i need a stand alone Blu Ray player.

Since Stringfellow already suggested Panny, I might as well wait and quietly build up my Blu Ray collections. Thanks for the tip, a long way to go for me, only have the Sony 46 Full HD in my room, sound system have not figured out yet... need to get approval from the Home Ministry first.. hehehehehehe... so many request for this year, hopefully can get approval...

Wish list for 2008.
1 * new car
1 * new bicycle
1 * personal work space
1 * new gf... (just kidding) hope she doesnt read this....

The Panasonic BD30 is considered by many to be the best player currently. Hoping to get it later this year when the price goes nearer to US$300 after the BD50 comes out. Still selling for US$400+ at the moment hmm.gif

Contemplating to get a 4wd, so that I can bring my bike everywhere, so sayang to put on the bike rack... The bike i want to purchase is De Rosa King 3 with Sram Red... (yeah yeah out of the topic again.)

but arj if you want to get the player let me know, i might get it as well too..

Im watching closely this BD30 since last dec very closely.. tempted to get it too..

USD 429.99 + USD 125 (shipping) = RM17++

also this Sammy BDP1400

USD 299 + USD 125 (shipping) = RM14++

Could we expect panasonic in malaysia retail? no?

maybe wait a bit until the Panasonic price come down a bit. B&H price also the same. Should we buy together? hmm.gif

You call that low budget?

The offer is great yes, but if that's low budget, then I have big problem with my home system. tongue.gif

I have to hide it somewhere just not to feel embarrassed. laugh.gif tongue.gif

So, for my 720p (1080i) 37" TV, if I compare to a 1080p 37" TV, I will only see the difference if I sit closer than 8 feet. The higher the resolution, the viewing distance must be shorter to see the difference.

I usually watch my movies around 7-8 feet away, so I guess my current TV is good enough. however, I may still consider a 1080p TV in the future. wink.gif
