The BD-HP20A is not a good player to go for. Mediaplex has that unit, and it has all kinds of problems playing BDs, even older ones. The only good thing about this unit is that the upgrading can be done easily by downloading the firmware into a USB thumb drive and plugging it into the USB port at the back of the unit.

The Panasonic BD30 is considered by many to be the best player currently. Hoping to get it later this year when the price goes nearer to US$300 after the BD50 comes out. Still selling for US$400+ at the moment

arj, aiming to get the Porsche 911 GT2, I am just short of RM1.5 million. Any donation will do... Finally saw the new M3 parked infront of my office, white in colour but the interior of car is so the boring, well it is BMW.

OMG    is this real? I thought the wars can last longer then consumer can enjoy low prices. Now, Sony will up up up the price of BD. Noooooooo...... 

Don't forget that Sony or BDA still needs to change mindset that HD is needed. If they drive the price up, then the HD format will just die.

I think they will still continue to drive price lower and to offer attractive prices to drive adoption of HD.

Toshiba Resigns from Format War; Blu-ray Wins!

Blu-ray Disc Sources close to the situation have alerted Blu-ray.com that Toshiba is expected announce at a press conference to be held at 5pm (local time) in Tokyo, Japan that they have ended their support of the HD DVD format. Toshiba will announce that effective immediately, production of HD DVD hardware, software, and authoring tools will cease, and that sales and support of existing products will end sometime in March.

As the main supporters of HD DVD, their resignation effectively ends the format war. Blu-ray has won.

Since Warner Brothers' announcement that they would exclusively support the Blu-ray format, rumors have been circulating that HD DVD's lagging sales and loss of studio support would force Toshiba to exit from the high definition format war. The weeks following were riddled with additional studios, retailers, and distributors announcing that they too would support Blu-ray exclusively, concluding with Wal-Mart's announcement last Friday that they would drop support of HD DVD in June.

This information should be considered a rumor until Toshiba makes the official announcement, but our sources have always proven accurate. Once the official announcement is released, we will update this post with any additional information.
