Microsoft has not fixed...
1. UAC (User Account Control) Is Back ! Believe it ! However, I noticed 'significant' reduction in the number of times it appears. 2. x86 / x64 choice... Why couldn't they just make it BOTH x86 + x64 compatible ? Really, Microsoft should be pushing everyone towards 64bit... 3. Windows 7 Versions ? I noticed the Beta is "Windows 7 Ultimate". Will there be "Home Premium" ? "Basic" ? I hope its just "Ultimate" for home users. Just 1 version for home users. Don't let consumers get confused over which version to buy. 4. Compatibility Issues I ran into more compatibility issues. Mostly for installation. Turning compatibility mode solves the issue. It seems the compatibility issues (most) can be solved simply by selecting Windows Vista / Windows XP compatibility mode. 5a. Games folder in Start Menu Again, I hope those who are running Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 can try it out too. Go to the Start Menu and select the Games folder. What happens is that everything pauses - and it takes quite awhile before everything resumes, albeit without even loading the full games list. 5b. Icons in general Seem to load at the pace of Vista. They don't just 'pop' appear like XP... but they have to load. This post has been edited by defaultname365: Jan 4 2009, 09:06 PM |

QUOTE(Aria_Sacho @ Jan 5 2009, 02:18 AM) Expect to receive Windows7 from your university when it's released Q4 2009. Added on January 5, 2009, 2:48 am QUOTE(defaultname365 @ Jan 4 2009, 09:05 PM) 1. UAC (User Account Control) Is Back ! Believe it ! I don't really have problems with the new UAC. It's far better in terms of annoying you when you're working with your computer. However, I noticed 'significant' reduction in the number of times it appears. QUOTE(defaultname365 @ Jan 4 2009, 09:05 PM) 2. x86 / x64 choice... Why should Microsoft pushing all towards X64? Even if Microsoft push it, the main problem in the ass is the developers. They won't just upgrade their X86 apps to X64 out of thin air, especially when it's still working in X64 (with WOW emulation). The only main advantage of X64 is the ability for large amount of system RAM. Until today, you can see the most OEM still supplying system with 1GB RAM (especially to government sector), which is not worth the X64 upgrade. Why couldn't they just make it BOTH x86 + x64 compatible ? Really, Microsoft should be pushing everyone towards 64bit... QUOTE(defaultname365 @ Jan 4 2009, 09:05 PM) 3. Windows 7 Versions ? Actually, since 6801 (didn't remember about 6519), all the leaked builds have other editions than Ultimate (except for the stolen build 6956 which only have Ultimate). To get access to edition selection, you need to extract the ISO to a folder on your disk, delete ei.cfg in source folder and rebuild the ISO using vLite.I noticed the Beta is "Windows 7 Ultimate". Will there be "Home Premium" ? "Basic" ? I hope its just "Ultimate" for home users. Just 1 version for home users. Don't let consumers get confused over which version to buy. QUOTE(defaultname365 @ Jan 4 2009, 09:05 PM) 4. Compatibility Issues True. I just turn on Windows XP compatibility mode to install GTA IV and it's weird that Windows Vista RTM compatibility mode isn't working with GTA IV setup bootstrapper.I ran into more compatibility issues. Mostly for installation. Turning compatibility mode solves the issue. It seems the compatibility issues (most) can be solved simply by selecting Windows Vista / Windows XP compatibility mode. QUOTE(defaultname365 @ Jan 4 2009, 09:05 PM) 5a. Basically after this current BETA (I) there would be anotehr phase, and then the testing one, and the final version. I'd say middle of 2010, and everyone will groan in frustration as they see their PC can't run this and has to get new hardwares
Basically it would be the same cycle all over again And yes, I still want UAC on my fukken 7. That thing saved me countless of time already |

Judging from the transition from pre-beta (6801) to public beta (7000) time frame, it'll deliver Q4 2009.Basically it would be the same cycle all over again And yes, I still want UAC on my fukken 7. That's funny... my 'games folder' (not Games Explorer) seem to 'pause' my Windows 7... everything just stops and it takes some time before it gets back to normal.
Top 5 Microsoft Must Do 1. One version for home users, that's it. 2. No 32bit or 64bit. Why not combine ? Like 'Leapord' ? Don't confuse customers (Ultimate/Home/Basic, then 32bit/64bit ??) 3. No more UAC. There are 'other' smarter ways they can come up with. 4. Compatibility. Windows 7 needs to recognise all Vista programs and run it as it should, not ask users to install 'Windows XP or higher'. 5. Price. Windows 7 cannot be priced as pricey as Vista. Don't expect ppl to pay so much for something new, when they are 'happy' with their current OS. |

Even Mac OSX have their own equivalent of the UAC 4. That's the problem with the installer. Almost all installers check exactly the version number including the minor number and maybe revision numbers too, if the installer ignores those, you can install without problems 5. Windows7 should be released as an upgrade for previous customers of Windows Vista, this can attract more people to join the Windows7 camp. |
