... and so begins my 2 day 'wait' for Windows 7 Build 7000... tongue.gif

Most feedback on Build 7000 has been nothing but positive.

And this is pre-beta !

Windows7 Build 7000 is the Beta 1, not pre-beta anymore, as mentioned by WinBeta.

Yeah, my bad. smile.gif I was thinking of the old build (which were already impressive) ... Windows 7 Build 7000 - I'm using it right now ! Didn't I say I had to wait.... '2 days for it' ? tongue.gif

I have nothing but absolutely positive things to say about it. It is a far more 'refined' version of the previous Build. It feels like Vista-weightless = everything responds instantly, and the Aero interface is no longer 'just for looks' but serves some major purpose (such as Aero Peek) and the 'hover the mouse over the taskbar to see the actual window'.

It starts up really fast as well. Best part is the fact that I could install most of my software, while some required compatibility mode to be turned on (compatibility mode of : Windows Vista !). AVG and Kaspersky currently have trial versions for Windows 7, and it is not free (security warning popped-up, and so clicking on it brought you the option of AVG / Kaspersky anti-virus). Also, the security warnings no longer bugs you. It hides neatly under a button. You have to experience the clarity yourself.

I am quite amazed at the progress Microsoft has done. Definitely going to garner XP-fans support, for sure. Remember the black bar when you maximize your window in Vista ? Well, it is now Aero as well when maximized, see through. Also, the internet connection speed is quite impressive (maybe its the return of the internet speeds after the cable breakdown). Websites load quicker than ever and downloads are way faster than I remember.

Well, IE8 did crash... but guess what ? After crashing, it restarted IE8 and brought me exactly where I left off (even in the middle of typing something... that info you typed is still there). It does crash, but now, you don't really have to worry at all! biggrin.gif

Here is a screeny of me using Windows 7 Build 7000.

Have you tried Nero 8/9 (and if possible, the Lite version too) on build 7000? Last time on build 6801, it crash all the way to the end and I've end up using UltraISO.

For your sake, I downloaded the latest Nero 9 Trial. I actually don't use Nero for any burning purposes (or any purpose for that matter). I installed it, no problems. Upon completion of the installation, it just hanged there - no 'Not Responding' messages, nothing. It just stopped there. Perhaps I have to try installing with compatibility mode. However, Nero Startmart icon was on my desktop already. I ran it... and it worked flawlessly. I can't believe how much the interface has changed. But yes, it does work (at least for Nero Startmart).

I am using my 2005 Dell Dimension 9150 - Intel Pentium D 840 3.2Ghz with 2Gb memory and a 7800 GTX. By the way, I heard even a 1.2Ghz machine can run Windows 7 really well - and this means UMPC now have got a bright chance of running Windows 7 after all.

So when I first installed Windows 7, I installed Nvidia Forceware (the latest) version. I had to go to Device Manager > Display Adapter > Update manually browse to flash drive for driver. However, after doing Windows Update, it had an update for something like Nvidia WDDM Beta Windows 7 driver or similar, so I updated it as well.

I left my computer in sleep mode. The next day (this morning), turning it on from sleep mode, I noticed the screen was garbled, as to, strange artifacts all over the taskbar and icon. I refreshed, remained the same. I had to restart my computer, only then did the artifacts go away. I think this is definitely Nvidia/driver display related issue. Usually artifacts are attributed to overheating, but my comp was cool as it can be.

That's look serious. Have you tried using the Vista driver instead of the WDDM Beta driver and see if it's still producing those strange artefacts. hmm.gif
