URGENT NOTE TO POTENTIAL MBTRADING CLIENT - you cannot short if a counter if your account is CASH, choose MARGIN.

Day Trade : 1:4 leverage
Overnight : 1: 2

Only found out yesterday, while trying to SHORT FAZ.

Hi, Any one can confirm on regarding the investment tax. I understand capital gain will incurs US 30% tax. Is it true? But as what I read from previous post, US tax is only for DIVIDED.

How about malaysia tax for capital / DIV gain.

No capital gain tax for US, just 30% on dividend...

Nono. Capital gains are gains which you get from buying low and selling high. There is no capital gains tax.

You only get taxed on dividends that you receive. smile.gif

Don't Believe Retail Sales—The Consumer Isn't Back

An upbeat retail sales report for August may have buoyed up some hopes for renewed consumer spending, but those on the frontlines — consumer products and retail executives — interviewed by CNBC on Wednesday weren't quite as upbeat.

"I would say that one month does not make a trend and that we have to be very careful about reaching conclusions that the consumer is back because of August data," said Home Depot Chief Financial Officer Carol Tome.

Tome said she thinks there's a lot of noise in the August numbers, which reflect back-to-school spending driven by deep discounts at some retailers, as well as the government's popular "Cash for Clunkers" auto program.

Not only has Home Depot's [HD  27.9775    -0.0825  (-0.29%)  ] business been hurt by the recession, but the slowdown in the housing sector has dampened sales considerably.

    * Retail Sales Are Recovering, but Hardly on a Roll

Still, Tome said, "Our business is less bad than it's been." (To hear more from Tome, click here to watch this portion of the interview.)

In a separate interview, H.J. Heinz [HNZ  39.91    -0.04  (-0.1%)  ] Chairman and CEO William Johnson said, "Consumers have changed their purchase habits. We've seen significant migration from consumers to other channels, to private label, to more value, but we are also seeing more in-home consumption."

However, Johnson said the shift to private label, which are brands sold under a store's brand, is "moderating."

This trend has put significant pressure on the sales of brand name products in recent months, and reinforces why companies need to continue to invest in product development.

    * Home Depot 'Eco Options' Label Aimed at 'Green' Buyers

Martha Stewart, who was also interviewed Wednesday, suggested the consumer would come back eventually.

"Yes, the consumer is going to come back," Stewart said. "It takes a while because they’ve learned what they can live without, right, and now they are going to start coming back. People like to buy things. People like to find new things. It’s our job to find the things they will respond to."

Martha Stewart Omnimedia [MSO  8.69    0.30  (+3.58%)  ] and Home Depot are hoping that what consumers want will be a new line of home-improvement products.

These items, which will include everything from closet organization systems to patio furniture, will go on sales at Home Depot stores in the U.S. in January, and will broaden Stewart's brand beyond her existing deals with Macy's [M  18.00    0.48  (+2.74%)  ] and Sears Holdings' [SHLD  67.3255    1.1455  (+1.73%)  ] Kmart stores.

    * Interview: Anheuser-Busch InBev CEO Carlos Brito on the Return to the NYSE

Stewart's deal with Kmart is set to expire in January. During her appearance Stewart was very critical of the way the discount retailer managed the Stewart brand.

"In the last couple of years, the new ownership has let our line deteriorate," she said.

There wasn't a reason for C to get below $4 during this time. The uncertainty on US govt disposal was just temporary and longer term, it is healthy for C. Buy on any pullback. C price trading range is between $4 and $5 now.

In that case, couldn't you get mbtrading to change your cash trading account into a margin account?

done, send them the signed copy of the Margin Agreement. As usual, it will take them 3 days to upgrade. So, next week I can go short on some counters.

Margin Agreement is something for Futures Trading? Or it is for shares trading? What's the purpose to go for Margin Agreement?

According to account executives in MBtrading, if you wanna short a counter, your account should be Margin base, not cash base.

This margin thingy is the same like our local broker.

You put cash 5000, you broker give you leverage 1:2 (normally) so you can trade 10,000. Anyway, no harm in getting it. As long you buy within your "cash" and don't go "contra" . Same thing like local market.

I see...

So means if you put cash 5000, with the margin agreement you can trade 10,000, but make sure the stocks rise and help you earn money so you can allocate another 5000?

No wire money transfer does not instantly credited to your account. It may takes 1 or 2 days if not longer.

Instant worldwide money transfer currently offered by Citibank but only between Citibank account worldwide. They called it Citibank Global Transfer. The charge is cheap too. Unfortunately Citibank Malaysia does not offer this services.

When did you make the transfer? I guess it should reach broker bank account in 1-2 days & another 1-2 days to credit into your trading account.

No you can't fund share trading account with credit card. You could do that with forex account but not for share trading account.
