I will be going to UNITEN if I don't get into the public university and course of my choice. My question is, are the food courts in/within walking distance from UNITEN open everyday, including public holidays and weekends? I'm not great in cooking and I don't want to depend on Maggi too much.

And if I want to get stuff like toiletries and food stock like bread where can I get them?

a little low-down on UNITEN's apartment.

There 4 in total apartments in UNITEN.

Amanah - Twin Sharing Male
Cendekiawan - Single Sharing Male
Murni - Single Sharing Female
Ilmu - Single & Twin Sharing Female

Notes:

  • Murni and Cendi buildings are exactly the same.

  • Amanah is the newest building in UNITEN. built I think 2004 since I got in 2005 they said been around for a year already.

  • Ilmu I believe is the oldest apartment built. Used to be co-ed. Now female only.

  • Ilmu has two types of rooms. Sharing and Single. But their sharing I heard is a lot smaller than Amanah's sharing. A single room in Cendi but shared with 2 people.

  • Foundies will get Amanah as soon as they enrolled. Cendi is mostly for Seniors (degree students).

  • Apartment is hard to get after a while into degree (Amanah impossible, Cendi small chance as you go). So be prepared to find a house/apartment outside of UNITEN. I know a few friend staying at Bangi Section 8.

  • Amanah each person have their own ethernet port. Cendi only have 2 port for 4 people. So make sure to bring a switch. I believe a house can only have 6 PC max. Same as Murni. Ilmu not really sure.

  • Cendi's (and possibly Murni) parking is very very limited. So make sure to send your form as early as possible. Possibly the same day you checked in. Amanah have A LOT of space. Never filled up in my 4 years of UNITEN. not even half. Motorcycle need not worry though. Enough space for motorcycle.

  • Don't park inside Cendi if you don't have a sticker. They WILL chain your car. Just park at DSS. A bit of a walk though. Bike is fine though. I didn't even apply sticker for my bike last sem. Well thats probably because I already did applied for my car

  • You can only bring 1 type of vehicle (Bike or Car). I brought both my car and bike but thats on my own risk whenever I'm out on my bike. They do have the right to make you leave your bike at the gate and make you walk back to the apartment. The same goes if you're bringing car without sticker.

  • Fire drills are done every semester (long semester). You can run, hide or just go. Depend on you. I go at first but then just hide on my last few semester. Very lazy.

  • House 1 & 8, Room 3 in Cendi has the biggest room due to its location at the edge of the building. Room 3 & 4 in Cendi is facing towards the corridor. So kinda hard to open your window without people prying into ur room. House 1 & 8 have all room facing outside. None facing corridor. The same applies to Murni.

  • Amanah has no room facing corridor.

  • Amanah has a badminton court, Cendi does not.

  • Cendi is 10 stories high. Got two lift but only one will be working for each building. Have 3 building altogether. Amanah have 4 floors. No lift. Stairs all the way. 6 building altogether. Murni same as Cendi while Ilmu got 4 building I believe. Not sure how many floor but no lift. Stairs only.

  • Ilmu is near to Upten (main foodcourt) while Murni is near to COE Foodcourt. Both Cendi and Amanah is far from any of them being Amanah farthest to COE foodcourt. Nearer to upten.

  • Make sure to bring your own pillows. Some room does have pillows, but believe me, You're better off bringing your own.

  • Price: http://www.uniten.edu.my/newhome/content_l...?ContentID=1016

  • Married apartment is in Murni

By the way, I think COE foodcourt closses after 8.

For a store, there is two at Upten. Near if you're staying in Ilmu but a bit far if in Murni.

Thank you for the info.

May I ask, does E&E Engineering in UNITEN still exist? Because I heard it's being replaced with Electrical Power and Electrical Communications. They offered me E&E Engineering which is the course of my choice, so I don't want to risk having the course of my choice changed into something else halfway through my study.

well there's only 3 cafeteria. 1 in CoIT, Library and beside the bookstore.
There's other 2 foodcourts. One at COE and another is Upten which is Uniten's main foodcourt. Both I believe have arabic food. But the others are all malays.

yup. COE prices has been known to be cheaper than those of UPTEN. But for all I know as I live in Kajang, the one in UPTEN is quite affordable by students as normal meal, non-extravagant will cost around RM5. Plus-minus 50cent. Only expensive ones are the Ikan Bakar at Selera 60an and Asam Pedas which may set you back more than RM7 depending which fish you take.

One place consider very cheap is at Sri Serdang. But getting there would be the main problem if you don't have a vehicle.

of couse.

Monday is formal day, means kemeja with tie, slacks and proper shoes (non-fabric, sports, etc).

Other days are smart casual. Collared t-shirt with shoes.

ID must always be worn. Some guards will catch you and take your name. Last time I got caught, they send a letter to my home. "Amaran Keras" as it says. But my dad just laugh over it. Going so far just for IDs.

One easy way to detect foundies are they will always wear white kemeja, black slack and black shoes. You can actually wear any kemeja you want. No lecturer will stop you. Just make sure you actually do wear one. Some lect won't care if you don't wear tie, but some does. So in early semester, just wear them. Once you see if they don't care, just skip 'em.

If you're going to CoIT, have a sweater ready. That place is known for its 'freezer'. Especially if you're going to the labs as those are pretty much the coldest part fo CoIT. Well most of the time anyway.

- the collared t-shirts must be tucked in? and any type of shoes will do? no jeans?

- by any kemeja you mean any color? regarding the slack, only black allowed?

thanks for your input.
