I'm an STPM graduate, just got an offer from UNITEN to do Electric & Electronic Engineering for the coming June intake.

May I ask, if I enrol into UNITEN and decide to withdraw after a few weeks will I get a refund for the fees I pay to the university? Coz I may have to leave if I'm offered a place in a public university.

@ISFJ & hsienhsien : During 1st few weeks u can withdraw without pay any, BUT u need pay registeration fees which cost around 1k to 1.5k

Last year my friend withdraw after one mth study as he get BumiArmada offer smile.gif

And chances go into UNITEN i think is not as high as u think. They consider ur money more than ur result tongue.gif
*
Yeah I heard that UNITEN is hard to enter. But what do you mean by "they consider your money more than your result"? I did not state anything about my financial status when I applied for it.

Means I have to consider expenses like registration fees, food, accommodation and transport for one month.

May I ask about the accommodation near UNITEN, most preferably the hostel? What kind of rooms are available? Are they dorm-like or apartment-like? How far is the hostel from the university? How about the rent? How many months' rent in advance do I need to pay if I decide to stay there? I need to know about the facilities near the hostel too eg. food courts. Is the security there ok?

Replies will be greatly appreciated. Thank you smile.gif

1. Freshies will be given a place to stay in the hostel for 1st year, there are shared rooms, 2 to a room, or single rooms.
2. They are apartment units, where 4 persons will stay in 1 unit.
3. The hostels in the campus and are within walking distance to classes, and there are also shuttle buses available.
4. Rents are RM180 per month for the shared room apartment and RM245 for the single room apartment. Not too sure whether they have changed the fee.
5. All depends on you, can pay month by month, or alltogether at one go, or how many months that you want. quite flexible actually.
6. There are 2 food courts, but in my opinion they dont really offer much choice. other facilities like swimming pool etc are available too.
7. Security for the female hostels are ok i guess, i dont frequently visit girls hostels, so i dont really know biggrin.gif

Hope this can help you smile.gif
Anyone has other stuff to add?
*
Flexibility in paying the rent for accommodation is just what I need, as I may only stay for a month, depending on my public university application results.

Some other questions that I'd like to know the answers:
1. Will they give the freshmen a place in the hostel for sure without them having to apply for a place there?
2. Do they have a kitchen in an apartment unit?
3. Do they have gyms? Or perhaps a field? I jog frequently.

Thanks for your help smile.gif

and you walk a whole 2 km to class everyday if you don't have transport.... brows.gif

dun bloody get cheated by claims that UNITEN provide shuttle service..if you depend on that...be prepared to missed at least half a sem of classes...the drivers are all pigs!

Whoa, is this true? 2km? I won't have my own transport if I were to study there so if I were to walk 2km I don't think I need to jog anymore.

1. Kinda forgotten the procedure about the apartment already. But they require you to stay in the hostel for the first week of orientation. After that you can decide whether to continue stay in or outisde.
2. Yes, they do have a small kitchen where you can do some light cooking, well the guys apartment have it, so the girls apartment should have smile.gif
3. Yes there is a gym, there's a mini stadium where you can do your jogging, or you can jog around the campus. Fields are plenty too wink.gif
4. The distance depends on where your class is and which hostel you are staying. anyhow they are within walking distance biggrin.gif

Thank you very much for the information. I hope I don't have to walk 2km anywhere.

How is the university environment in UNITEN?

In my acceptance of offer letter by UNITEN, I am required to send a bank draft of RM500 as "Bayaran Menunjukkan Kesungguhan (BMK)" which is non-refundable if I accept the offer. Is it some sort of registration fee, or do I still have to pay the registration fee once I get there?

The RM500 is sort of like a confirmation that you want to study there, so if you suddenly decide not to go, you wont be able to get back the refund. It's not the full fees, there should be another letter coming to you after you paid your BMK to inform you about the registration detalis.
If you continue studying there the BMK will be deducted from your fees, so it can be considered a small part of your fees.

I see. Thanks smile.gif

1. If you indicated initially that you want a place to stay there then you would definitely get a place. But if later on you want to stay in but didn't apply initially you would still get a place, as they give freshman priority smile.gif
2. Yes there's a kitchen area with a sink, table and kitchen cabinets so you can keep your food stock there! biggrin.gif
3. Yep there's a gym, pay RM1 when you use, and there's a mini stadium where you can jog or you can just jog around campus...the roads in uniten are not level (some parts are steeper then the others) so it's kinda a challenge to jog around campus also...I usually jog around campus smile.gif

Thank you very much for the information. I just hope I don't need to walk 2km to classes biggrin.gif

They'll send you an e-mail informing you that they've received your documents and then another e-mail informing you whether you're accepted or not.

Added on April 14, 2009, 11:40 amJust to confirm, is Electric & Electronic Engineering in UNITEN approved by the Malaysian Qualifications Register? I just checked the website, it says that the tempoh sah laku is from 01/03/2000 to 28/02/2005. It is now 2009.

I will be going to UNITEN if I don't get into the public university and course of my choice. My question is, are the food courts in/within walking distance from UNITEN open everyday, including public holidays and weekends? I'm not great in cooking and I don't want to depend on Maggi too much.

And if I want to get stuff like toiletries and food stock like bread where can I get them?

As I have wrote before:

By the way, I think COE foodcourt closses after 8.

For a store, there is two at Upten. Near if you're staying in Ilmu but a bit far if in Murni.

Thank you for the info.

May I ask, does E&E Engineering in UNITEN still exist? Because I heard it's being replaced with Electrical Power and Electrical Communications. They offered me E&E Engineering which is the course of my choice, so I don't want to risk having the course of my choice changed into something else halfway through my study.

ytea yea.. im coming in this june. just got the offer letter. haha.
btw, they told me to reply their acceptance letter before may 6th. they want me to register before may6 or ?
*
I have to reply to them by May 6th too, together with a bank draft of RM500 if I accept their offer. The registration itself is on June 28th at UNITEN. So by replying to them and paying RM500 it means you're confirming your acceptance of their offer. They'll send you a bunch of papers by post too so look out for that.

wa, rn500? if i banked in no more return $$  if i go to local u? or they will pay back if i don register for their sch on 28th june? so u ady sent to them?
*
The RM500 is non-refundable. The rest of the fees you'll only have to pay when you register on June 28th. But at least it's cheaper than MMU which requires successful applicants to send over RM1.8+K if they accept the offer. I have not sent the RM500 over to UNITEN yet, still taking my sweet time before May 6th. Anyway congratulations on getting the UNITEN offer smile.gif

*
Yes June 28th is the registration day. Classes start early July. I'll be taking Electric & Electronic Engineering which is my first choice, but if I get an offer to do it in a public university I may have to give UNITEN a pass.

I'm a Chinese. As far as I know they'll arrange for you to stay in their hostel during orientation and I guess you can arrange to continue your stay once you're there. That's what I found out from the booklet they sent me.
